Featured Multiplayer - Entries for Short races close 2 minutes too early (1912216)

As of Forza Motorsport Update 10, Short races in Featured Multiplayer start 15 minutes apart.

When a race finishes and the podium and post event flow are completed, there is often less than 1 minute of entry time remaining for the next race (ie: there’s less than 4 minutes to race start time, but entries close 3 minutes before race start).

This presents a number of issues:

  1. If you matchmake for the next race and find an empty lobby, you don’t have enough time to back out and re-matchmake in the hopes of finding a more populated lobby, instead having to wait 15 minutes for the next race at a different track.

  2. If you are in a group of friends who wish to matchmake together and one of them disconnects or suffers a game crash while you’re in the event selection menu (or you’re waiting for people in a separate race to finish and join your group, or people who joined your party chat late etc.), they don’t have enough time to join your group before the entry closes.

  3. On most tracks you don’t have enough time to do more than 1 qualifying lap.

  4. If you and your group misses the upcoming entry deadline, there are over 15 minutes until the start of the race after that. While this does give more time to practice, the races themselves are 8 minutes long so spending double that in practice isn’t as fun by comparison.

This can be addressed by increasing the time between races, or by making the entry close time even closer to the race start time (preferably 1 minute before race start).

At launch it was 20 minutes between races with entries closing 5 minutes before.

Prior to Update 10 it was 18 minutes between races with entries closing 3 minutes before, which felt about right.

I think either of the following would work, the first is preferable as it means 4 races per hour:

  • 15 minutes between race starts, entries close 1 minute before race start.

  • 20 minutes between race starts, entries close 1 to 3 minutes before race start (preferably 1).

Finally did some Long races last night (Forza GT3).

The cadence between races there seems about right. There’s plenty of time for players to regroup and get qualifying in, when doing multiple races in a row.

Short still has the issue mentioned in my original post.

Medium I haven’t tested.

The long races are where the game shines, when you have time to get a few in.

on some tracks with 15min between races, u cant even put 1 qualify lap if u do races back to back.

This issue is still present after Update 11.

I see some changes were made to Long/Endurance races, nice.

Hopefully Short gets some tweaks soon.

Yeah they could make changes to short race frequecy to make it every 10 min. U do every 2nd race normally but when u want to skip race (eaglerock I’m looking at u) then u don’t have to wait 20 min for next race but only 10 min.

This issue is still present after Update 12.

This issue is still present after Update 13.

I have also reported on this and remember each class will differ also. on vir full B class on rivals has a 1:55 time and S class has a 1:35 time lap times. You cannot qualify on post races and then of course you can’t win. 15 minutes for an 8 minute race is odd. It take 27 minutes to finish a race in total. What if it were 5 minutes between races. It takes about 12 minutes to race. The race flow was better like you said a few updates ago, I could race for hours and not change lobbies. But this is the quick race formats they choose. I say quick race no qualifying if they want that.

This issue is still present after Update 14.

Update 14 has also introduced the same issue to Medium length races.

This issue is still present in Short and Medium races after Update 15.

Having done a number of nights in Long races (Forza GT3), this issue is also present there as of Update 15.

There often isn’t enough time between successive races to do 3 qualifying laps, especially if you need to wait 1-2 minutes on the race selection screen to pick up players in your friend group who are either joining your session for the first time or attempting to rejoin after a game crash, quit or disconnect from the previous race.

It’s possible that many players noticed that with the release of Update 15, we got two additional laps for each track in the Cycled Class Series.
Now we often don’t have enough time to get to the next race right away. We have to wait ~ 15 minutes before the next race starts.
This is especially annoying in the E-class, because it is the slowest class, so it takes longer to complete all the laps, so we always have little chance to get to the next race right away, and almost after every race we have to wait 15 minutes.
In the D-class, the situation is almost similar, but due to the fact that this class is a little faster, we have more chances to make it to the next race right away, but nevertheless the problem remains and we also do not always have time to get to the next race right away and we have to wait for the same 15 minutes.
In the C-class, this problem is not so noticeable, because this is already a fairly fast class and we almost always make it to the next race (although here we can notice this problem), but we almost never have time to do at least 1 qualifying lap.
The fastest solution to this problem is to remove 2 laps for each of the tracks. But ideally, the developers should accurately calculate the number of laps for each track and for each class. Because now we have Mount Panorama (Bathurst), which has been added to the C-class, where the race is 3 laps, and if you just remove 2 laps, then the whole race will consist of only 1 lap, which will look ridiculous.
And also, because of the two extra laps, especially in C-class, on some long tracks, we have almost no tires left on the last lap, I can’t say that this is a problem, since you can successfully drive at least 1 lap on worn tires, but it can be difficult for some players.

This is something I’ve raised concern about a few times, it’s really hard to chain races together as a group and you often can’t get a qualifying lap in.

I’m not too worried about the qualifying lap, the main thing is that after finishing one race we would have enough time to go straight to the next race. It would be ideal if we also had time for at least 1 qualifying lap, but the most important thing is just to get to the next race, rather than waiting 15 minutes every time.

This issue is still present with Medium races after Update 16. There is not enough time between successive races to do 3 Qualifying laps.

It may also be present with Short races but they currently run to Medium race length (which may or may not be a bug, it is unclear right now).

This issue is still present with Short races in Update 17.

After doing some Long races for the past week, this issue is present as of Update 17 as well.

Similar to Short/Medium, there’s often less than a minute of entry time remaining between races, especially in Forza Touring Cars.
