To me, that has nothing to do with racism (unless we’re talking about exploiting foreign laborers), but it has everything to do with business practices that work against the local/domestic workforce & economy - “for the shareholders.”
They need 14,000+ workers but they’re putting 9,000 of their own on unemployment.
It’s the 9000 Americans bit that’s the tell. If I wanted to gin up some “They’re taking yer jerbs” racism/bigotry/overall hatred, that’s precisely the wording that I’d use. Personally, I doubt even 3/4 of those who lost their jobs in XBox alone are American, let alone the wider company.
Oh, now I see what you mean.
Yeah, I never fell for any of that “stealing your jobs” gaslighting, so that angle didn’t even register for me.
Workers don’t “steal” anyone’s job.
Employers kick workers to the curb the moment they can exploit any cheaper alternative.
As that news clip shows, those 14,000+ foreign workers won’t “steal” any of these 9,000 jobs from domestic workers - the employer did (and/or “shareholders” did).
errrr okay
Anyway, replacing staff with cheap foreign labour, very bad corporate behaviour. Especially when they sounded like they were cutting down staff, not swapping them. Gosh, you lot have it bad over there if you can’t even mention this without using that word these days
What the company was doing before, leading up to now, was “for the shareholders,” but it didn’t play out so great, so now they’re ditching it “for the shareholders.”
Later, when this next move doesn’t play out so great either, they’ll again ditch it “for the shareholders.”
Rinse & repeat.
At the moment, I can’t recall any company ever playing the “we must do this for shareholders” card and it resulted in good things for their workers (below executive levels) or for their customers (in terms of quality).
Only way the gaming industry can be saved is if Steam buys Xbox…
It does seem to be at a bit of a cross roads. The development costs are hamstringing companies from turning a profit on most games, plus throw in that more and more people are time poor and more and more people are using that to play FTP games on their mobile device.
Gaming is changing, it was ever thus but it seems to be for the worse. It’s easy to blame the devs for that but they’re just reacting to what the customers say they want ‘8k 240. RTGI’ mindset and have got themselves into an arms race which has just led to a race to the bottom.
Add in to the mix the rise of the super game over the past decade, that people only play. Fortnite, Roblox, GTA, COD, etc and it looks even bleaker. I see this with my two teenagers and it saddens me.
So unconfirmed rumor from former employee on X.
A former Turn 10 employee is reporting that Xbox has basically shut down the Forza Motorsport team at Turn 10 Studios. It looks like the studio is now a support studio for Forza Horizon and ForzaTech.
It is a great pity for the employees and I hope they get support in their search for a new job.
Of course, this step is destructive for the studio. To see a former flagship go under like this - especially since I was here from the beginning - is unpleasant.
But from a business point of view I assume it makes sense.
A lot of time and resources were given to the reboot and the result is widely regarded as the worst game of the series and I doubt it made a profit.
Sure, unfortunately it often hits the wrong employees in the back, but that’s the business world we live in.
A community letter should have been published yesterday. To at least inform the remaining players about the future of the game. But the fact that the management, who are responsible for the poor quality of the game, also have no communication skills when they are needed, is nothing new.
Not after the embarrassing launch, not now.
I’m curious if any content is still to come but I’m sure nothing new will be tackled as of today.
Nobody cares what a dude says who traded in two 911’s for a cyber trash truck in rl
This is the end. I suppose at some point they’ll add some new content they’d developed in an update, like some cars, if they exist… and in the same way, they’ll gradually add the series with FOMO content that disappeared.
As for online, series rotations, rivals… and little by little, everything will die.
Forza Motorsport is a terminally ill game that has been shut down, such a shame.
I bought Xbox Series X just for this game, just like I did with the previous-gen console. So, after they’ve killed it, as far as possible, I won’t spend another cent on anything Microsoft or anything related to it. After all, we can all choose where to invest our money.
Insider gaming is saying a former Forza employee that Forza Motorsport is cancelled??!!
Naa it was april fools of him…anyway all you need to know else:
Turn 10 has thrown Forza Motorsport fans in the trash. They delivered a poorly optimized, badly made game and completely abandoned the players. The game’s forums are full of complaints and clear signs of neglect. The game is basically dead, and the studio seems to have shut itself down — a stark contrast to the competition, which shows real passion and care for what they do.
Oh darn… He was back to working with Turn 10 again within a year ago!
Shame he got laid off. I guess there won’t be car sound updates to be expected anymore.
There won’t be updates full stop
I’m just wondering if Turn 10 or Xbox will be making an announcement regarding the future of Forza Motorsport? Considering the unfortunate loss of jobs in the company and the comment by an ex-employee that FM is all but dead.
I for one will be very disappointed if FM is finished. I play single player and the last 2 updates really have made FM into a fantastic game again and it’s the best serious road racer on the market for me. If FM has a future, will we be getting further updates that include new race tracks? With the addition of further new tracks, FM really still does have great potential. And there is always the option of a release on Playstation to induce the revenue that these executives love so much.
Long time player here since fm2.
We need an official answer on what the hell is going on with the game after Microsoft has let go 50% of the employees on this studio. Lot’s of rumors going around but we need something solid.
Will you trust/believe anything other than confirming it’s done?
