The Downfall of Forza Motorsport

I guess that MS should simply continue investing into a grossly incompetent studio because they are a charity?

Honestly if it’s mostly people in sales departments then it might not be that big a deal as far as games are concerned.

What the hell does a person in a sales department even do in a game studio? Seems like the easiest place to trim some fat.

The game isnt even almost dead.

Zero problems finding lobbies with 16+ players, often 20+.

Someone compiled a list of employees based off their linkedin accounts, the studio has been decimated. This wasnt trimming fat, turn 10 is a support studio now. What that support is we dont know, but we’ll likely not get an answer about any of this. The studio still exists, the game is said to have people to keep it up and running and thats probably about it.

Is it the studio that is incompetent or the decisionmakers within and above that studio? The semi-live service format was never going to win. It seems very coincidental that the last two updates have been excellent and almost reversed the monthly format. Hopefully this means that at least we’ll still be playing FM. Whether we get updates of any substance is another matter.

I’m starting to think the same way. Maybe swap over to Sony fully before the next gen. Phil Spencer’s fake executive smile has finally worn thin.

Maybe they’re working on that announcement right now, but it’s not a good sign when one of the laid off staff was the Communications & Community Director :frowning:

Hopefully we hear something soon; I’d even be satisfied with a “this is the last update to the game” kind of announcement as it would give the fans closure.

As somebody with experience of what layoffs do to people and a team, this week has been brutal to watch. Feels almost as bad as when I had to see the game I worked on (EA SPORTS WRC) go through similar these past few months.

Thanks for compiling the list @Draugnimir, it helps show the scale of what’s happening.

Very true. It’s very puzzling. Admittedly I only play single player so I can’t comment on MP but it’s now a great game. But they seemingly want to take it away. One of the great Xbox IPs which is much loved.

It’s over. A real shame for a game with a great history sadly the latest edition just simply wasn’t good enough.

I wish the people of Turn 10 the best and hope they secure new opportunities soon

Let’s hope that they release something. I’m sorry you had to witness layoffs. Can’t be great. Similar to FM, I felt the same when I heard about WRC. Very disappointed. I’m still playing Dirt Rally 2 at the moment and WRC is in my backlog but I have played a reasonable amount. Enough to make a judgement anyway. I started playing after the performance issues were rectified. As a package I actually think WRC is a better game than Dirt Rally. Especially because it feels closer to the WRC season which I casually follow (watch highlights!) and the stages are much longer, which is much more realistic. Portugal & Sardegna are exceptional stages for example. There’s also tons of content.

If WRC had a graphics engine upgrade, it would be even better. But obviously EA weren’t satisfied with the profitability and decided to can it without giving it more time. They’ve also wrecked Bioware. Specifically Dragon Age. Looks like Microsoft and EA are doing their corporate best to shaft gamers. Sony will be licking their lips.

It’s a fun game now for a lot of us, and it’s pulling similar numbers to The Crew Motorfest, which released in 2024 and seems to be looking at strong support from Ubisoft still

As an aside, what happened with EA WRC performance and Unreal? Really enjoyed the game, but stutters phew

The series has been going downhill since Forza Motorsport 5. Its really depressing to witness as someone who has been with this franchise since the original game on Xbox. Now more than ever I really wish I still had my Xbox 360 so I can play Forza Motorsport 4 and just stick with that. Eventually FM 2023 is going to shut down and will no longer be playable because it requires an always online connection.

What if we’ll never get any messages?

Also, what will happen to the suggestion hub?

It will be ignored, just like usual.

In fact, Turn 10 and its current management are reaping what they sowed. The studio is closing down. They destroyed a successful franchise. A game that took 6 years to develop. “I can’t believe this.” It seems like it was developed in a hurry. Compared to FM7, almost 400 cars were cut, not to mention the race tracks. And let’s not forget the horrible graphics.
" FORZA MOTORSPORT 4 FOREVER is the best of them all. The recipe for success was ready, all we had to do was follow it. I think everyone here on the forum knows who’s to blame for this. He disappeared.

Most of the stutter issues were resolved a few months in as a lot of extra cache captures were done.

Game isn’t perfect but it runs at a solid 60 now from my experience. PC mileage may vary.

But Ubisoft doesn’t have another more successful racing game. The biggest argument against Motorsport is Horizon, plain and simple.

Urgh Horizon got dreadfully boring after they started just throwing prizes at you constantly, and the best folks behind Horizon have left for their own projects. Just can’t believe my favourite racing franchise will be gone.
