Wheel in question is the Logitech G27 on PC if that makes any difference.
A lot of wheel users are saying that Normal steering is required because Sim Steering is too easy to lose control with a wheel. However, the in game hint menu says Sim Steering is difficult with a controller, implying Sim Steering is mainly for wheels. I have played past Forza titles as well as this one with all assists off and Sim Steering with a controller and while a handful of cars where crap to drive (such as the Porsche in the very first race in career mode or the demo), most of the time I had no problems. But I want to use my wheel now that Forza 7 is on PC and my Logitech G27 is compatible, and I want to set it up properly to have the best and most realistic experience.
So which is the definitive answer, Normal or Sim steering?
Ok thanks for the link guys. But really? Sim steering is bugged out for wheel users?
What about controller? Never really had a problem with the controller.
I know your heavy set in your opinion Dust, but I have never actually seen it been stated that is was made purely for controllers, just that there were a few assisted layers on the pad that is removes, that’s not to say there could be some layers (all though much less) on a wheel as well.
IMO it’s not bugged at all, the steering modes are working as intended but for some reason sim feels off wich could be physics or FFB issue, which I looked into here:FM7 FFB Analysis
Input layers yes, there are no input layer when using a wheel but there are also physics layers, physics layers are what’s at play here. And they will not talk about these (I’ve teied and been politley denied) and likely never will openly because it’s their secret formula.
Q.
Dear Aaron, what are the differences between normal and sim steering on the wheel?
A.
Thanks for the message! As I mentioned in the post in the thread, Normal steering is where a lot of the Forza magic happens. I really can’t get into what it does and doesn’t do… so I can’t get into the difference between normal and sim. Suffice it to say, I’m always looking for ways to improve our physics for both accuracy and drivability and I’ll look at this area in the near future.
To me this says there are clearly designed differences between the two settings, not a ‘bug’.
Sim steering you get out what you put in, normal steering slightly different.
There is a difference, There is no magic. Its the speed sensitivity, which was never enabled with a wheel anyway. So if its already off, it cant be turned off again. All it can do is introduce a bug.
T10 wants you to think there is more than just that, but there isnt.
Its fake difficulty.
Theres no special magic switching in the physics. Just stop.
It is no use Dust, I gave up versions ago trying to convince people that Sim Steering was NOT for a wheel and was implemented for the pad. It is no use wasting keystrokes over.
At Forza 4 , my last ForzaMotorsport before FM7 (except APEX) , i have used SIM Steering because of the 5 % more CR
… and I believe that the sim steering was made for the controller to SIMulate the physic from a real steering wheel … no one can turn a wheel so fast like a controller stick and for that is sim steering … But i dont know if this is right …
It may have nothing to do with FM7, but for example in FM6 and FM6 Apex, when using normal the car oversteers too often when exiting corners but when switching to simulation the car doeesn’t oversteer out when exiting corners. With normal the steering feels less responsive.
