Is it just me or is catching oversteer in forza with sim steering near impossible?

Assetto Corsa, Dirt Rally Gran Turismo, rFactor, Project Cars 1. All of these games and more I’ve been able to catch oversteer with some degree of success on the wheel. Yet with Forza every single title I haven’t been able to do it. What gives? I mean I am not unfamiliar with FMs physics I have played every one of them and owned all but 1, but yeah I just cannot get simulation steering in this franchise.

Are you playing forza7 with xbox one?? If you use wheel, slide down understeer force / center spring / damper.
I recommend understeer =5 / center spring = 3 / damper = 50
I’m using fanatec csw v2 and I can easily catch oversteer with that force feedback setting. (It was impossible at forza6)
Now I’m pretty happy with forza7 force feedback.

I am on PC but using the same wheel, will give that a try though.

Sorry I have to ask for number confirmation, Understeer setting in game at 5? Cause it starts at 100, so does centre spring. It just seems like such an extreme departure.

It’s correct!! It seems weird, belive me!! Try!!

Yes, it is YOU!

You’re on the wheel, yes? Use normal steering. There is no “simulation” needed here. Simulation steering works best for the pad because it attempts to ‘simulate’ actual steering on a stick that movies millimeters on either side.

See I vividly recall people saying Simulation steering was for wheel users in older Forza titles… In fact I recall the game explicitly stating it. Also being this is the only series I struggle with oversteer im less inclined to believe it is me…

A number of wheel users recommended using normal steering - I’m sure Fanatec was among them. Dead sure of it. Some old-time wheel users also recommended using normal steering, especially for the 900 degree road cars.

100% correct.
Sim steer is designed for wheels.
(doable on controller, but designed for wheels)

I do believe you are wrong about that. When they put it in Forza 4 I remember them saying that it was put in for the pad users to remove some of the steering assists. They recommended that wheel users always use Normal. But that is sacriledge to people around here, most who weren’t around then. Now everyone just uses it to beat on their chest and such. To each their own. Use whatever you want.

ps. I wish Turn10 would just come out and put this myth to bed, once and for all.

The fact nobody seems to be sure and people are so certain of themselves really speaks volumes on how well this setting has been communicated to the userbase.

I asked Dan on twitter.

It’s just too bad that the old Forza 4 forums are gone. If they were still accessible you could read the complaint threads when 4 was released about how you can’t get away from the tank slappers. Try it yourself, just change to Normal and see the difference.

The owner of Fanatec has always said to use Normal. He calls Sim “Drift Mode”. I would tend to trust what he says, also.

Oh I don’t need to read it I experienced it 1st hand with my CSR and now my clubsport v2 lol, I have never seen much from Thomas making commentary on things so I have no idea what his take on it is..just gotta take your word for that one.

That was from the Boards at Fanatec back when the 1st wheels he made for Xbox came out. I had one from the 1st shipment they made. He was quite active there, not so much here.

Correct,Thomas said “T10 should have called sim mode, drift mode”.

Normal steering for drift user because you can easily catch counter steer with normal steering than simulation.
But, with my setting you can easily catch oversteer even you are using simulation steering.

Actually I always use simulation steering with my wheel, because I can get more direct feel.

Sim steering is for controllers.

This is per dev Aaron at Turn10 in the FFB thread on these forums.

“There are multiple systems layered together to create Normal steering. Forza is known for being controllable and natural on a gamepad and these system are a major component of that feeling. While I won’t explain every system involved I will say that Simulation Steering turns these systems off. I’ll also confirm that the input layers of these systems are turned off any time you use a wheel, regardless of the steering setting.”

Did anyone find resolve to this issue? I am using a wheel as well on PC and have massive oversteer issues. I am tired of trying tunes to counter this. I should not have to. Raceroom has the best FFB of any sim I have played, and Forza is leaps behind in comparison. I will try normal and the FFB settings explained here, but if you did find a solution confirmed, would be nice to know.

Thanks

The only catch all solution is to turn your DOR down as low as you’re willing to go.
