I drive with every assist off except clutch, with a One Controller.
I noticed that the simulation steering still prevents you from fully turning in when entering a corner. You push the stick fully to the right and you will notice that the in-car steering wheel is only turning 30-45 degrees, and it goes to 90 degrees (which is full) only if you slow down further.
This is a HUGE problem with the control because it still isn’t giving you freedom to CONTROL the car. You are prevented from fully steering by some silly assists that is still on.
In real life if you were going 150 miles an hour would you really yank the steering to full lock really quickly or would you ease into it and steer sharper as you slow down?
The laws of physics do not allow you to turn sharp at higher speeds, thus the low rotation with the controller stick. The same happens with the Thrustmaster force feedback wheel.
Agreed, Sim steereing Is easier with the game pad as opposed to the wheel in my opinion. It took a while, but I am finally getting used to sim steering with the wheel. Normal is way too forgiving with either peripheral.
In reality and the game a car can not go full lock at high speed. Cars or anything going do not have the grip to defy physics. And full lock in reality is two and a half turns from one side to the other. Impossible to perform even at 70mph. For the record the steering is well simulated in game and is fairly accurate to reality.
That is the way it was for FM4. Simulation for the wheel and normal for the controller. I will have to switch over and check out the simulation steering on the controller and see what the difference is. Has anyone else switched over from normal to simulation on the controller and if so what differences did you find.
I run controller with the full suite of assists turned off, but I have done that since the first time I tossed the disc in. Imo, even through the controller the game feels very good all things considered. I love the tension in the triggers, and the steering has always seemed very solid. Agree with Dano that it is much less forgiving, however. Took about a month of casual play to really get used to it. Even then, you have to be careful about the brake bias or it yanks right/left with even the slightest application.
Simulation on the pad in FM5 is very different (IMO) from simulation on the pad in FM4, FM5 is much less forgiving, and it is very hard (to the point of where it makes it much less fun) to correct a tank slapper on the pad with simulation steering on.
With a FFB wheel you wouldn’t be able to instantly turn the wheel into full steering lock at high speeds. unless you’re Hulk Hogan or something. Likewise, you won’t be able to countersteer effectively or correct a tank slapper if you’re going too fast.
“Simulation” steering simulates the fact that a racing driver doesn’t have infinitely strong arm muscles.
Seems few of you played sim-racers so ok it was my fault to mention this question in the first place. Yes I have a wheel but Xbox One wouldn’t let me use it because it is a Logitech G27.
By telling me “you can’t turn wheel quickly at high speed in real life” isn’t something that could convince me when the game “decides” how fast I can turn. It is the slow down of turning speed that was not controlled by me that annoys me in the first place. You never decide how fast I can turn a wheel, it is my ability which constraints it.
Another problem being the fact that in Sim-steering settings, when you turn in fully, the car only turns 40%, however when the car slides therefore you need to counter steer and if you steer fully back the car will just steer fully back. This makes sim-steering quite annoying with controller. Anyways I switched back to normal and felt quite comfortable with it, no need to worry about it too much thereafter.
I could guarantee a gold with 50% bonus AI (or drivatar whatever it is) so I know what I am doing.
And honestly Forza isn’t a sim-racing series, but is a very brilliant racing game series with authentic handling. Therefore this doesn’t deny the fact that I bought the console only for Forza.
