What is the customer mood really like?

Some in this forum complain that FM8 is being unfairly maligned and that these opinions do not reflect the majority sentiment.

So I looked at the reviews in the German-speaking XBOX store and compared them.
FM7 receives 77% 5-star ratings with only 2% 1-star ratings.
For Horizon 4 there are even 85% 5-star ratings.
So it’s clear that customers also know how to express their enthusiasm. There is no reason to assume that this will suddenly be different with FM8. Even if there are 17% enthusiastic players compared to 50% disappointed ones.

The minority of satisfied customers can also share their enthusiasm here. However, it is inadmissible to assume that others who express their displeasure have evil intentions or to describe them as haters.

People are much more likely to publicly vent their displeasure than praise unfortunately.

There’s also those that use every opportunity to complain no matter the content of the threads.

Those that like the game are too busy playing it! I definitely am enjoying it and must remember to provide a positive review. Thanks for reminding me.

That is not right! That’s why I made the comparison to other games. Horizon 4 for example
is highly praised.

The complaining is higher in the short term so the newer games will get the lower scores. The older games are higher as they mature and the early bugs get fixed. Also the conmplainers tend to move on to something else.

Forums will always skew negative because the people that are happy don’t feel the need to hop on the forums to shout about it.

There’s a selection bias in that people who leave reviews tend to have a very strong opinion one way or the other.

There’s another bias in that humans are more likely to rush to put a negative review, than rush to put a positive review.

The number of reviews you have is also significant.

Comparing numbers at two different points in time is also not very meaningful. There’s a reason Steam shows recent user score above all time user score.

Case in point: looking at No Man’s Sky Steam scores (95% recent, 77% overall), you would never guess how angry people were on release.

If fixed games achieve a higher rank, then that is proof that the ratings are accurate after all.
There’s no point in praising FM8 for something it could be at some point. The valuation refers to what was delivered in exchange for money.
It should be borne in mind that the early buyers paid a much higher price and still cannot enjoy the game earlier.

I was explaining why the scores change for older games in the series.

I’m happily playing the game with minimal issues. For me it’s a 4.5/5 and thoroughly worth the money I paid for it.

On the forums here you’ll see that any thread that’s positive about the game immediately gets jumped on by those complaining.

Isn’t that understandable? Those who believe they have received what they expected are likely to play.
It is mainly those who request the service for the amount paid that come forward here. And they would probably soon be satisfied if either what was promised was delivered or the money paid was refunded. But T10 decides on a very special strategy: keep the money and play dead.

As a long time fan of the series this game is just disappointing. After 6 years, 3 times their normal dev cycle, i was hoping for a return to form after the very average FM7. Instead we get a racing game trying to be a grindy MMO while also being completely devoid of content on most fronts.

With that being said, the game is alright in a vacuum barring the bugs and stability issues. If Horizon 4 was my first game in the series this game would probably look pretty good to me. I can’t help seeing the regression though, and its just sad knowing what the series used to be.

The period of time between this game and FM 7 was the same as between FM7 and FM4. Or FM4 and FM1. Makes you think about what’s been going on the last 6 years…

Forza Motorsport is a conservative game. It’s a moderate game, that is neither ambitious nor groundbreaking. Further - it’s under siege by gremlins and glitches.

Forza Horizon 5 was also a conservative game - an adjustment to the previous title - and it started with a huge amount of gremlins and glitches. They weeded alot of that out, added aspects to it and I think it’s become a sturdy, steadier title.

FM too has the potential to become a sturdy title.

Now the marketing of FM was wild and off-the-wall. It was just loo-la land promises there. They promised a revolution and we got a conservative game. That alone knocks people out of shape and the fact that it’s under siege with gremlins and glitches despite a long development time has given people justifiable reason to be angry and bewildered.

I expected a conservative game and I discounted the marketing. I knew to do this as I saw the cars with the bland Forza aero and the cars that hadn’t been refreshed for 10 years plus. I’m kind of just waiting until they cull the gremlins and glitches. But I see potential for FM to become that sturdy title I can be fairly content with - presuming of course lobby numbers can be retained in that time frame.

False.
Typically, when lots of people are happy about a new racing game, forums are buzzing with players:
• sharing in-game photos/screenshots
• sharing game-play videos
• sharing paints/liveries
• sharing tunes
• sharing tips & tricks
• arranging in-game meet-ups
• organizing competitions
• recruiting for clubs/clans
…etc.
…but (unless I missed something) there doesn’t seem to be as much of that going on here this time around.

Kinda hard sharing tunes and organising competitions when that requires literal hours of setup per car.

Exactly.

This is already happening. Ofcourse the forum is more busy with the problems of the game, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing positive happening in the game.

LOL exactly - not as much of that going on here this time around.
2 threads.
Even the Community Hub is relatively quiet.

We shouldn’t fight each other… except in a race.

It’s up to T10 to deliver what was advertised or your money back.

Yet there are haters that have proven themselves to be so.

But… Let the haters, hate. Right?

Like the Wilson codes in FM 1 & 2?
