Formula E is racing in monaco this weekend which got me to wondering if the forza player base has any interest in formula E.
Just so you know its free to watch on roku tv in the united states, and it usually has alot of passing. Last year the winner went from p9 to top of the podium and vergne went from p22 to p7!
And so:
Do you watch Formula E
Yes, i try to catch every race.
Ive only watched a few races.
I dont watch any because they sound laaame.
I havent watched any for other reasons.

If it isnt free to watch in your timezone the races are uploaded next day!
The Amazon river runs for thousands of miles. At some points it runs through areas of the rainforest that are almost untouched and have been barely explored. Because of the porous limestone in these areas, the water leaks through the stone and travels deep into the earth and forms underground pools almost a mile beneath the surface. Over thousands of years, small blind transparent fish have evolved and live in these pools. These fish have never seen the sun or the surface, and have never been seen by human eyeā¦
Even though I donāt follow the series, I believe itād be a good addition to the Featured Multiplayer particularly on short/technical tracks. I can see it being entertaining on Watkins short, Grand Oak or LimeRock. Any new content is welcome at this point, especially since itās a single car in this case.
I donāt love Formula E, but I like it. Itās fun to watch when bored, but I donāt really follow it.
The circuits do look great in the cities, but they do feel a little too artificially controlled with the boost zones.
PERFECT!! I have zero interest in watching Formula racing, and even less interest than that in watching any kind of E racing. No, make that āeven less interest in that in anything E when it comes to automobiles/trucks/buses, etc.ā
I enjoy watching anything with EVs. Itās the future. Batteries are constantly getting better from every perspective, so the sport will also improve with longer races.
Iāve never been a ācar guyā, Iāve only ever owned one car (a 1968 Mini with 23bhp back around 1990), and I canāt wait for all vehicles to be quiet and emission-free. Iād love to see more EVs in Forza.
Even though most of what I know about cars, Iāve learnt from playing Forza, 90% of my time playing is normally spent in the vinyl editor. Thatāll probably be the case again in FM8 once it takes seconds rather than minutes to load vinyl groupsā¦
I watched Formula E I think exactly once. Iād say it was better than F1, though I canāt stress enough how little that is saying. I think the thing I liked most is that itās actually about driving skill, and not about who is driving the Mercedes (or these days the Red Bull). But itās still longer than I care to watch cars go round for.
As far as gameplay goes, I donāt like EVs. I like shifting gears in my games. EVs either have no gears, which is bad, or they have gears, which is somehow even worse.
Some EVs, like the Battista and Nevera, which are really the same car, also have the additional problem of being too powerful and not being designed in any way to be driven without a massive dose of electronics. Guess what I also like in my games: no electronics.
So that makes EVs an overall terrible experience, and the release upgrade system made that even worse by disallowing upgrades from the start, so I wouldnāt be particularly excited by Formula E cars.
I agree on this. Fan boost was universally disliked even by FE fans. Luckily they got rid of it a few years back so it
Might be worth taking another look this weekend.
If you want to play Formula E, best bet is to get a PC and a copy of rFactor2 with the relevant dlc. I have been casually keeping an eye on said dlc to see if thereās ever a reasonable sale, but Iāve never seen it get to a price where Iād be willing to take a punt and try it out. (Also the fact that i donāt play rFactor2 very much at all is a contributing factorā¦no pun intended).
I used to follow the series, i wouldnāt say closely, but i tried to at least keep abreast of the teams and which drivers were doing well. I attended the New York race back in 2019 when it was held down by the docks in Brooklyn, and had a pretty good time. Here in the US, the races used to be broadcast on CBS, which made it relatively easy to follow. Iād just set my DVR to record and watch them whenever there was a new one available and i had some free time. Now that theyāre no longer being broadcasted and are something that i have to seek out through other means, Iām finding that i just canāt be bothered.
Which is a shame, because there is actually some very compelling racing on display. I think FE unfortunately is having a bit of an identity crisis latelyā¦ it started out with the mantra of ātake the racing to the peopleā by holding them in city centers rather than the often remotely situated, purpose-built race tracks common with other series. I think this tended to attract a certain type of fan, one that maybe was interested more in the associated technology or environmental aspects, as opposed to your typical petrolhead race fan.
But i think the organizers are starting to discover that bringing the racing to the people isnāt sustainable and theyāre slowly starting to bring more and more ātraditionalā tracks to the calendar. I think this kind of leaves it in a weird place with fans as a result, because the series feels like itās losing its identity in a way. Itās becoming just another racing series to non-hardcore race fans, and itās not ātraditionalā enough for the hardcore fans to accept.
The fact that itās now harder for me to find and watch certainly doesnāt help and feels like the series as a whole has taken a step back. Having less accessible event coverage does not give the impression that this is a series that is committed to growth and is moving in a positive direction.
Obviously this is all just my opinion and i do hope FE finds itself and figures out how to increase its appeal while being sustainable long term. Itāll be interesting to see how things progress over the course of the next few years.
Iām pretty sure those were all using the Gen 1 chassis. FE cars have evolved a LOT since then (i believe theyāre currently on Gen 3), and are completely different beasts.
So its actually even easier to watch now. Firstly all races are uploaded to the formula e website/app a week after they happen.
Furthermore for those lucky enough to be in the USA, if you have a smart tv you can download the āroku channelā and they broadcast races practice and qualifying live and upload all three a few hours after they happen.
On the roku channel its zero ad interruptions making it much better then the cbs broadcast and its a free app for any smart tv!
Note: you do not need a roku device for the roku channel app. I just have it on my Samsung tv and it works flawlessly
Yeah, theyre at 350Kw of power now and even shed 60kgs compared to gen2 for a
Total of 840Kg. Top speed is 320 kph aswell. Id love to see it in forza because i really wana see what it can do with slicks.
Id bet it would be faster then a f2 car around some tracks with them. Thats with almost no downforce
