The gen 2s were 10 seconds slower around monaco compared to f2, even with the upgrades the gen 3 likely wouldnt overcome that. Slicks would certainly make a difference but in the long run the lack of downforce, which is by design is likely to hold formula e back compared to f2.
Theres quite a few race disciplines missing like gt1, gt2, nascar, indy and formula e from this iteration of motorsport. Dont know if any are coming back.
I think those exclusive agreements are like what Porscheâs used to be with EA - Microsoft could get them for Forza, but would have to pay iRacing for the privilege.
Youâre probably right. Maybe with the gen 3 EVO which i think might be getting AWD. Should help with acceleration out of turns allot as right now itâs really hard for them to get the power down with the electric engines with no tcs.
Edit:
They just unveiled stats on the gen3 evo. 0-100 time is 1.82 seconds in AWD mode. Itâll be interesting to see a drag race against an f1 car to see when the f1 car would overtake it.
Thatâs over a tenth faster then a tesla model plaid, wonder if that was measured on a prepped drag strip.
Thanks for the link! Iâve now watched the most recent race, and it was wild! The best Formula racing for me is now F2, F3, and FE. Close, intense racing with lots of overtaking - the way all Formula racing should be.
The only time F1 racing is exciting is when weather or a yellow or red flag throws off somebodyâs strategy, and practically never the racing itself.
If people are dissing FE because thereâs no engine noise, you deserve missing out on some great racing. I wouldnât be surprised if some of youse arenât even allowed by your partner to listen to the racing broadcasts as loud as you want because itâs annoying, and you find yourself making engine noises like a toddler to compensate.
Of all the classes that have come and gone and that are still going, Formula E has to be hands down the worst spectacle a fan or viewer can encounter.
Lets take Group 5 era or Group C era as an example. Not only was the racing absolutely enjoyable to watch but it was also so glorious to HEAR!
Listening to a screaming Turbo 4 from the Zakspeed Capri, or the orchestral drama of the quad 4 rotor of the Mazda 787b has absolutely no comparison to a muted, boring and deflating sound ofâŠnothing.
That couldnât be farther from the truth when it comes to gen1 and gen3 formula e. Unless youâre talking about the sound, then you might have a point.
Theyâre boring. Why call it Formula? Arenât those supposed to be fast? âFormulaâ E is slow. You can shift, but why? It has almost no effect. Initial acceleration is ok-ish but falls flat quickly. Many production cars (with petrol engines) are faster, not to mention more fun to drive. The Formula E cars do handle easily but that also leaves little challenge driving them. They feel like push cars for kids.
Formula E is interesting but it doesnât grab me that much. Watch a races here and there was I find out its on. I donât know if its costs or how the cars run but I donât get into them racing on only one off street tracks with zero real dedicated known tracks.
It feels sometimes like its more about the PR of pushing EV technology that the pure sport itself although the drivers still have to learn and drive the cars the best they can. I guess in the end I only have so much free time and so I stick to stuff like Indycar, GTP, prototype racing leagues.
âSlowâ?
The current Gen 3 FE does 0-60mph in 2.8s, while F1 does it in 2.6s. Next seasonâs Gen 3 Evo that was just revealed does it in under 2s.
Top speed: about 200mph.
Correct. The word âformulaâ in the title simply refers to a set of rules and regulations that all cars must adhere to. It also usually implies that the cars involved are open-wheel.
