[Staff Edit - Whitelight’s video link removed; Do not link content that violates forum rules (profanity) - MM]
Probably the first mainstream YouTuber to actually give a proper review. It discusses most of the game’s downfalls since most of it’s strengths are pretty much universal across all installments.

The levels of censorship here are just petty at this point, but ironically helps to drive home the point of this video.
It’s a great summary of a lot of the problems that a large chunk of the community have with the game. Horizon is a technological and visual masterpiece with absolutely no soul. Horizon 1 was aimed at the wider automotive enthusiast community, Horizon 5 is aimed at everyone and it suffers for it. There’s no progression, no conflict, nothing that stands in the way of 100% fun, fun, fun all the time because they need to sell the game to children on Game Pass.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Seems like a fair cop. It’s a 38 minute video (which is too long - it’s a review, not a documentary) and I’m less than 10% in and the reviewer has already dropped 2 F-bombs.

I’ll take Ti_Hsien’s word for it. And as I said elsewhere it’s not censorship. We all agreed to the rules when we joined the forums, even if we didn’t all read them. They get to decide what is here based on keeping it civil and clean. This is their house and we are guests. Tracking mud in is frowned on.
Now, IF, the video linked didn’t have any profanity etc. issues and it had still been unlinked, then you might have a case for complaining. Certainly they let us have pretty wide latitude here complaining about the game, so I’m sure they would have left it linked if that’s all it was.
Simple rule really, keep it clean. Surprised it has to keep being stated and is always met with bogus claims of censorship.

Not going to lie, I didn’t know sharing videos that had profanity was against the rules. I just figure no profanity was limited to our language amongst each other. This makes me wonder what the Halo forums are like, because I imagine that fanbase is probably way more prone to language than we would be.

Videos like that have an impact early on in a games life. I doubt it will have much if any impact 1 year later.

You must not go on YouTube much. This is pretty much the norm for video essays, and has been for almost half a decade. Quite frankly, this was actually one of Whitelight’s shorter videos by far.

From my count, he’s really been the first major YouTuber to air out grievances against Horizon 5, which is helped more by the fact that he is prolific YouTuber for gaming as whole rather than just the racing genre. I’ve just seen so many other prolific YouTubers and Twitch streamers give the game a tongue bath after only playing for two hours, so this was a refreshing change of pace.

Not much at all. Just several hours a night, about five nights a week. Though I don’t usually watch stuff about video games. And when I do I often complain that these things (whether they be reviews or guides) were better when they were more typically seen as written web articles.
To be fair, in script writing, usually a page equals one minute of screen time, so written articles of this nature would be pretty daunting too, if not more so.
I’m bad at discussions and will use “mental shorcuts”, so please don’t jump on me
Parts of video:
“AI” - I agree that AI need big overhaul, but Is there any game where AI acts like real person?
“rewinds” - Sounds like skill issue.
“expeditions/showcases” - Here I agree, scripted evenets sucks, one of the most unnecessary things in FH world. Although looking at his last senteces I can’t tell if he doesn’t like it or he is just saying that it is too similar to previous ones.
not part of the video And I really hope that it is not true that devs spent 6months on the opening race.
“campaigns” - Yeah, fake progress
“skill score” - Can’t really tell if I agree or not. I mean, yes there is word skill in it, but I always felt it is here for people that “farm” points and not to show “skill”.
“credits” - wheelspins > racing, hard to disagree.
“progress vs sandbox” - Agree, can’t please everyone.
“characters + festival” - I will skip that part, cause that is not why I’m playing FH.
“lootbox car rarity” - Agree.
“map” - Honestly don’t know where he is going with “largest festival should be in center of the map” and “pemanent spwanpoints (player houses) bad”.
My problem with map is two things: a) trying to fit too much biomes, b) not enough roads (asphalt, dirt, unmarked).
Summary of video: My biggest problem with it is that it is written by casual who treat FH as single player game.
My first FH was FH4, so can’t really tell if the donwfall of festival is that big. At the same point I never really cared for “festival experience”. I bought FH4 cause I wanted racing game with open map, good physics and be usable with keyboard. FH was only game that looked on videos like it have not-arcadey physics.
He have some valid points/opinions, but I rate this video same as I rate FH5 → 6/10
EDIT: Actually, let ma change my rating: video 5/10 (cause there is literally nothing about MP and Festival playlist) and my FH5 rating to 6,5-7/10 (thanks to added back custom races in Horizon Open)
PS. I’m the person that don’t really need much to have fun. I have spent hundreds of hours in muliplayer demo of Live for speed (1 track, 3 cars). Blackwood + XRT
In America it should read 6.5-7/10
Does that help your brain?

It’s not the norm. I must have watched 100000 videos on YouTube with no swearing in them. Out of those 100 FH5 videos with no swearing in them. Apart from the swearing however the video is the most accurate FH5 description I have seen on YouTube.
Pretty sure he was referring to the length being the norm, as I was pooh-poohing it parenthetically for being 38 minutes long.

OH OK that makes sense.
The video is good, but I don’t agree with the Rewinds, because I never have them turned on, and Cross Country is still easy without rewinds. And the jumps, you just try not to use the controller during a jump.

Most forums have a similar “keep it clean” policy, but this is the only forum I’ve ever used where even an ALLUSION to a swear word is enough to get put in the naughty corner. Profanity isn’t specifically mentioned in the Terms and Services or the Code of Conduct, it arguably falls under “offensive language” but offense is subjective. I’d hope that most of the people that use this forum were adult enough to be able to handle a few choice words in an otherwise excellent video essay.

This is just stupid. We’re not even allowed to link a video?!
