Request for feedback: Audio devices and settings

From time to time the Forza team may supplement the Suggestions Hub with a focus on community feedback around a specific feature in Forza Motorsport.

Please vote in the polls below to let us know how you listen to gameplay. Reply with any details that will provide more context to your answers in the polls.

This topic is for feedback around the poll items, not bugs: Use FM Report New Issues to report bugs related to general audio, and FM Car Issues for specific car audio issues. Use the Audio & Music section of the Suggestions Hub to upvote ideas for new or changed features so that your interest is counted. The voting Hubs are where we monitor bugs and requests.

For me I use Dolby Atmos with headphones :headphones: but also all kinds of sounds are important to me because it’s the immersion of the game . The echo from the engine, be able to hear people shout, be able.to hear the opponent car behind or on sides. Every sound is important BUT REAL ENGINE SOUND is what gives me goosebumps.

Don’t forget the helicopter’s sound! :helicopter:
More realistic sound = better

Car sounds are the most important :smile_cat:

I’m afraid that doesn’t exist anymore. I haven’t heard one car in FM2023 that sounds good.

Well I like the Ferrari 812 Super fast but it can be improved for sure. A little louder would be nice

[Staff Edit - this topic is about audio and how audio is heard from different camera views; use the Suggestions Hub for topics about camera visuals - T10MM]

What we use to listen with isn’t nearly as important as the accuracy that comes out. Get the cars accurate then worry about our audio devices.

One more thing. This poll makes me nervous. I can’t tell if you’re using it as a means to prioritize. If this is true, then those of us who have the larger spatial systems will be lower priority since we’re outnumbered. Not fair.

Try this. Just make the sounds accurate. Worry about how they sound on the smaller devices later. As I already mentioned. In most cases the smaller devices have EQs and such in place already. Tailoring the sound to these devices often ends up with the frequency cuts and such doubled. Food for thought.

Can we pleeeease dial down the awfully generic “race transmission” effect?

It is generic as it is the same in every car.

And it is way louder than the engine itself! Sure, it often dominates the sound space off throttle, but it shouldn’t drown out the engine on throttle.

I can be driving all kinds of thundering big block engines and they purr softly as all I can hear is that god awful whine.

Total agree on this, it’s too loud, and sometimes on oppenent cars too

Get the sound right for a basis TV sound system. The advanced systems have the capabilities to taylor the audio to the specific taste of the specific user. If the sound is right for a standard TV audio system then it’s right for everything.

No. You’re wrong. This is what is wrong with 99% of all audio. It’s tailored to smaller systems then ends up sounding thin and weak on larger ones. In fact, I’d venture to say that is what is wrong with this game right now. It’s been tailored a bit too much for smaller systems and speakers.

What needs to happen is this. DO ALMOST NOTHING TO THE RECORDED AUDIO. Very minor EQ adjustments and cleanup. That’s it. Do NOTHING ELSE. No de-facto rolloffs. No enhancement. Nothing. Master it so that it retains its original dynamic range ( read as no more than 1dB gain reduction with a mastering limiter etc ).

You show me on my advanced AVR where I can restore lost dynamic range and depth. There isn’t an AVR on the market that can undo poor mastering.

You don’t really understand Audio recording do you? What flat EQ means when mastering a recording? And what 1db actually mean in the audio profile?

I have to admit, I’m not as up to speed as I used to be on consumer grade audio.

However, since I am a certified installation consultant for BOSE Professional Audio Systems and a certified Dante installer. I could set you up with a great solution which will do just that. My minimum to get started is at least a 7000sq ft facility and a starting budget of $25,000.00

I’m also certified by EAW but just one speaker starts at approximately $15,000.00 so the budget goes up accordingly.

Shall I send you the contracts? What is your start date?

There is nothing out there that reverses compression. EQ does a lil bit, but that’s just a band-aid.

Dodge Stealth sounds exactly like the two I owned, very well done on turn10’s part. But you keep on being you.
