Multi class tire wear

I race a lot in multi class events and I like idea of race strategy but atm I literally run sports on every car I use.
Running hards has no advantage what so ever. They are slower and wear out faster.
In fact In most cases they won’t last 20 mins on high tire wear circuits such as maple valley and hakone.
I do think race tires no matter if they are hard medium or soft should have a significant grip advantage over sport tires.
My other idea is to force a mandatory pit stop for everyone to bring strategy into play in these events.

From what I’ve tested, Racing Hards have around 0.03-0.05 (?) higher G-values than Sports, and to me they also feel more grippy (same size) so this seems strange. Could it be a tuning issue, bug or something else? It’s also worth noting selecting right tyre width plays a big part in this because narrow / wide tyre behaves very differently, easily giving false assumption about superiority of one compound.

What kind of cars are you having RH wear issues with? I’ve noticed some B/A class FWD cars can be problematic on tyre wear also with Sports in 20 minute races.

Race tyres (RM/RS) already dominates shorter races (which of many have also already complained) so making race tyres even better or forcing pit stops would make Sports (and probably also Racing Hard) tyres in my opinion pretty much useless also in 20 minute races.

I personally make all kinds of builds from mild “street tunes” to “full racecar” type builds so obviously I appreciate different type of tunes in different race types, therefore different actually usable tyre compounds.

I don’t have a problem with them being the same speed and from what I tested if you widen a sport tire to the same grip level you can achieve the same lap times as a hard tire.

But I think hard should last 20 mins. And the awd and rwd on sports can’t last around certain tracks.

I think maybe the answer could be 3.5 tire wear instead of 4.0 we currently have.
This would hopefully bring fwd with sport or race to do 20 mins and awd the same.

I agree that if tyre change with also RH is necessary then there might not be enough wear difference to softer compounds. With sport tyres I have been able to go without pit stop but on some cars it’s been really close, had to slow down to save tyres.

RM/RS tyres are on a different level on grip / lap times so I think for those 1 tyre change is only a good thing.

Yeah agreed I think that the only times I haven’t lasted 20mins on sports is if the car weighs more than 3100 pound that’s for rwd anyway lol

I will have to test it next week in a lobby see if it’s enough of a difference

After running some test races on both Sport / RH I’m starting to think (car choice aside of course) this might at least to some degree be a tuning issue. With Porsche 935 (with same suspension tune on both tyres) I ended up in a weird situation where Racing hards clearly outlasted Sport tyres (all 4 of them). I wasn’t even really drifting or anything like that, decent laps on both tyres. To me it seems tyres slipping even a bit has more effect on tyre wear and lap count / driven distance less than I previously thought.

Ok interesting I think I will have to test some more. I just think atm with the way the multi class hopper is it’s limiting cars and builds.
You can run a hard tire on a light car I think they should last 20mins on fwd and awd at the least on medium weight e.g between 2600-3000 pounds.

Yes FWD / AWD can easily be a bit excessive on front tyre wear. I think my 935 was running on too high camber for sports so it favoured RH tyres with less wear on that test.
