Is is worth getting a Xbox One S just for Forza Horizon 3? (and other car games)

I want to get a Xbox One S, and basically the only game I’ll play is Forza Horizon 3, and other car games. I plan to get the Minecraft bundle (because its the cheapest) and buy Forza Horizon 3 separate to play that. Is this a good idea?

I bought an Xbox just to play Forza and have been having a lot of fun with the franchise over the last 6 months. I’ve been playing all 5 Forza games that can be played on XB1 (Horizon 1-3 and Motorsport 5-6). Increasing my Forza Rewards tier (which gives you credits in each game every week) has provided a good incentive for me to complete as much of these games as I can, so I don’t get bored too quickly.

Now is a great time to familiarise yourself with the Forza franchise with plenty of games available on XB1 and with Motorsport 7 coming soon. I’d say go for it!

I got an Xbox One strictly for Forza games. I got the Forza Motorsport 6 bundle and got Horizon 2 to go along with it. Just those two games was more than enough to justify MY purchase. Later Horizon 1 became backwards compatible and then Horizon 3 came out. Motorsport 5 went on sale and Motorsport 7 is coming out. That’s worth it I think.

Anyway, you said you were buying the Mindcraft bundle and Horizon 3 on the side. Do you play Mindcraft? It might actually be cheaper to find a XboxS Horizon 3 bundle.

Yes!
Also dont forget to buy a disc or a download code of the first Forza Horizon. Both very easy to find.
It’s a really good game.

Well, your purchase will largely depend on your taste in car/racing games. Are you more of the RRE, iRacing, AC or PCARS type who doesn’t want to compromise on realism? Or do you enjoy racing games with good visuals, reasonably realistic car sounds and physics that aren’t too arcade-like? If it’s the latter, you’ll have loads of fun with the Forza games. Just remember, its not a simulator, and neither is it an aid to make you a better driver in the real world, although it does boast certain sim-like attributes as far as the driving model goes.

All in all, you’ll enjoy the Forza games if you don’t mind something that isn’t specifically catered toward the hardcore simmer.

I would say it’s a very good idea if you want it. I got a One for Horizon 2 after playing the 360 version… and then for 6.
Horizon 3 is definitely worth it. With the DLC expansions even more to do. Definitely one of my favorite games of the year. If you like Horizon you will not be disappointed! Jump on a deal

Honestly, if you’re thinking about buying FM7 I would hold off on buying the S and wait till the X comes out.

Also if you have a gaming PC, Forza titles are starting to be play anywhere, so you can play them on either PC or Xbox. FH3 is the first major title that is available on PC, there was FM6 apex as well.

I understand that there is a lot of excitement and anticipation for the One-X but it is nothing more than a 4K console. It has a really powerful GPU, but that’s it. The CPU is still a bit underpowered - it wouldn’t even run Destiny 2 or Just Cause 3 at 60 fps, 4K. I don’t imagine a lot of games will be 60 fps at 4K, which at some point is bound to be an industry standard soon.

However, native 4K games will overall look better even on the regular One and One-S, even if you don’t have a 4K TV.

So all in all, if you have a fetish for resolution and faster loading times, by all means, get a One-X, otherwise the regular one will get you by this generation just fine.

There are some inaccuracies in here, but since the features and technologies built in to the OneX have been discussed ad naseum, I will not go into them here. Suffice it to say that the OneX is more than just a 4K box and all the games in your entire library will look, play and sound better when played on it.

Secondly, there are no native 4K games that can be played on the One or OneS. Perhaps you were confusing that with playing 4K games on a OneX while using a 1080p TV.

Third, we have not yet seen any complete lists of how developers are planning on taking advantage of the OneX’s power and which ones may run at 4K/60 … so it’s still too early to make judgment on if there are ‘enough’ for any particular gamer.

Alright, allow me to address these “inaccuracies”:

Suffice it to say that the OneX is more than just a 4K box and all the games in your entire library will look, play and sound better when played on it.

They will look better, yes, they will play better, obviously (more fps is always good), but sound better? Can you link up to a source? As far as I know, there are no games that will exclusively take advantage of the One-X’s audio architecture to make games sound better. FH3 or Forza 7 will essentially sound exactly the same on the One-X, One-S and the regular One.

Secondly, there are no native 4K games that can be played on the One or OneS. Perhaps you were confusing that with playing 4K games on a OneX while using a 1080p TV.

And I never said there were. There’s no confusion at all friend - let me reiterate: games that are native 4K on the One-X will look better on both the regular One consoles. Dan confirmed this, so did MS. Second, 1080p TVs will be able to benefit from native 4K games for One-X users, owing to the supersampling, just as you pointed out.

Third, we have not yet seen any complete lists of how developers are planning on taking advantage of the OneX’s power and which ones may run at 4K/60 … so it’s still too early to make judgment on if there are ‘enough’ for any particular gamer.

Actually, we have: Forza 7! They have announced another title as well, though I can’t seem to recall. But FM7 is at the forefront of “get the Scorpio to enjoy Forza in 4K/60 fps”.

Speaking of which, I don’t know why some folks are worried about NOT getting 60 fps on the regular consoles. T10 have never compromised on the 60 fps lock - what you’re getting on the One-X is simply a Forza game running at 4 times the resolution. EVERYTHING else, assets, detail levels, sound environment, everything is exactly identical on all consoles and PC version. If it weren’t, the community would massacre T10/MS for rendering the regular Xbox One consoles useless.

So I’ll say again, if anyone’s looking to get ultra-crisp resolution in 4K with better colors via HDR + faster loading times, the One-X is for them. The regular consoles BTW, can also boast faster loading times if you get an external SSD. And the HDR feature can be had with the One-S. On a final note, Giese confirmed that FM7 being native 4K, will make the game look better on the normal consoles as well, hence you’re seeing such a humongous install size at the store. If that weren’t the case, they would have clearly mentioned “100 gigs on XOne-X, 50 or so gigs on normal Xbox One”.

Faster is always better to me when it comes to video. I would at least get the xBox one S. But is you want to future proof, get the X.

If he doesn’t have a 4K TV then that would be pointless.

if he doesnt have 4K TV atm it would still be improvement even with 1080p TV and he can get 4K TV later

For an extra $250 any benefits on a 1080p screen would be insignificant and unless you’re rich, a terrible waste of money for most people.

If someone wants to make an informed decision to do that, then that’s fine - but I see what amounts to shilling to make people think they’re going to get a really much worse experience on Xbox One S, which simply isn’t true.

Anyone else get the feeling this guys mad because he can’t afford an X? Shilling? Are you serious? Gaming revolves around graphics. Some people care, some don’t. That’s fine. But if HE wants to get the best resolution possible for his game then it will be the X. Point blank. Who cares if he has a 4K tv or not, the X is more than just a gaming console. It’s pretty much a new generation of the One. Point is, FM7 will look better and you’ll have a much more enhanced experience with the X compared to the S. So shut up.

Unsubstantiated assertions aren’t evidence, or facts. Resorting to ad hominems proves you’ve lost the argument.

Does that boost your ego telling yourself that you’ve won an argument? Nice dodging tho. But I would love to hear which of my “unsubstantiated assertions” is false.
EDIT: my ad hominem, if you even want to consider it that, was separate from the actual argument. You’re having a bit of trouble discerning that aren’t you?

It isn’t really a new generation. The games, apps and functions will be the same across both Xbox one consoles. If you know you’ll be getting a 4K TV or monitor in the future it’s definitely worth it even if it’s just for the UHD player and you want to game casually. It all depends on the OPs money situation and intentions. He states in the title “other car games”. If he is looking to get into a lot of car games he really should invest in a PC. It’s way more versatile for gaming. You can run any racing title you want at any settings and resolutions you want. You can get into Sim racing which isn’t really possible on the console and you aren’t limited when it comes to peripherals or mixing and matching peripherals. You will also have more power than an Xbox One X. I have over 56 racing games/sims installed both old and new and the majority run at 4k over 60fps. My Xbox rarely gets used for gaming since getting a PC.

I didn’t say it WAS a new generation. I said it pretty much is. Do you really think the Xbox One(original or S) are in the same realm as a vapor cooled version? It’s like comparing the original Xbox 360 to the Xbox 360 S. Its the same generation, but a completely different console.
