Not pointless. But totally up to personal choice. OneX on a 1080 TV will give him better quality graphics, better game performance, smoother gameplay, more consistent FPS, and better sound on every game in his library. To some, those benefits are enough to justify a OneX even without a 4K TV.
I am not currently located where I have access to quality internet, so I won’t be able to do your research for you and provide the requisite links. There are however multiple articles and reviews that have been published since E3 and even going back to the initial Digital Foundry review that discuss all the technologies that the OneX will use to provide better gameplay, graphics and sound than anything else on the market.
Things like using 4K supersampling to provide better graphics on a 1080p TV … something that no other console will be able to do. Being able to achieve developer’s target frame rates on games that have previously had to use dynamic frame rates instead. Being the only console on the market that will support Dolby Atmos technology to provide the best 10 channel surround audio experience available.
If you are satisfied with your current XBox One experience, then that’s no skin off my back. But I do want to take advantage of all these technologies previously unavailable on any console … even without including 4K graphics. And I’m sure there are plenty of others who will agree with me.
I have always been a Sony man but I bought myself an Xbox one on Monday purely just for Forza Horizon 3 and I’m happy to say I haven’t been disappointed in the slightest. So much so that I upgraded to the gold edition and bought the expansion packs as well. In the four days I’ve had it I’ve made it up to exp 83 I think and have only taken a break because of work. I strongly recommend the purchase and with the amazing willingness of some dedicated tuners within this site I see many months of enjoyment ahead
If you’re a casual gamer, go for it, Forza Horizon is a great easy to pickup racing series. Not too serious but a lot of fun. Minecraft is also a lot of fun as well.
So you all ready have an Xbox One or gaming PC you never said. If you have a Xbox One then no hurry at all once the Xbox One X comes out prices will most likely fall on the Xbox One S also looks like they are only going to be selling the Xbox One S and the Xbox One X.
Next thing you have to look at is Hard Drive size the Xbox One S comes with up to a 2tb Drive the Xbox One X only 1tb. So going to need an external most likely, Since the X Xbox One S comes with either a 500gig, 1tb or 2 tb hard drive this may be the better option at the moment.
With the way games are going with the 500gig only 10 or so games will fit on it. So looking at another $80 for a 2tb external.
Also is it cheaper to buy a Xbox One S with a 500gig hard drive with a 2tb external or to get the 2tb Xbox one S.
Really it is a matter of bang for dollars do you have a 4K TV if not are you thinking of getting one. If you are might as well get the best Xbox you can afford I would hang back and wait for the X to be released then decide what is the best value for my money.
Pushing someone to buy a console which costs twice the price when you don’t even know if they have a 4K TV, and how much they will benefit from it if at all, is completely wrong in my view.
Not everyone is clued-up and they might think it is true that Forza on a regular Xbox One will suffer framerate problems, and you need a $500 console to have smooth gameplay. Completely false.
If you’re referring to my posts, I’m not pushing anyone to do anything. Which is why I said its up to personal preference.
I would also argue that it’s just as wrong to claim something is ‘pointless’ when there are obvious and definite performance enhancements and new technologies involved in the decision. Try to help educate everyone with ALL the facts and let them make up their own minds.
I guess if you are just interested in Forza and have a limited budget, you could get the Xbox One S. If you want to have access to Forza and a LOT of racing games including sim racing, and want better framerates and more options for racing peripherals, you really should get a PC if you have the money. The quality and power is so much better. I have a PC and an Xbox One and I don’t use the Xbox for gaming at all anymore. Games are a lot cheaper as well through Steam so that’s also something to think about.
Up until the shambles that was FH3 on the PC, I had always been a PC gamer… the FH3 PC experience forced me into an X Box One S and 40" 4K setup… Still have high hopes for FM7 on the PC though as FM6 Apex has been pretty much flawless event at 5K… My Monitor/GPU setups 5K HDR capable although these days because of the Wheel/Pedals/Shifter setup I usually play PC racing games on the 40" 4K…
So when you posted this queary did you think it would turn in to a fist fight over what you should get. Is amazing just will start a battel of words in here.
I bought an Xbox one s with minecraft but even though it was $300, I traded my 360 to get the one s to play forza horizon 3 but I can tell you that it is worth it because you’ll like it more than the 360 because the graphics are so much better than the 360 so it is worth 300 dollars
I kept both to be able to go back and play 360 games especially ones that aren’t backward compatible (FM3/FM4) and to save space on Xbox one. Also all my saves are on the 360.
I would wait for the Xbox one X. Forza Horizon 3 will be getting a 4K update shortly after and would be a much better visual treat. Not to mention with Forza Motorsport 7 also launching at 4K as well.
That all depends on if you can afford the wait and the new Xbox and if you have or intend to upgrade to a 4K TV. If you have a 4K TV, then wait for Xbox One X as the graphical fidelity for the new Forza racing games will be to die for.
The Xbox One X will run FH3 at 4K and 30 fps but the One S (and the One phat too, I believe) will run it at 1080p and 30 fps, which is more than adequate, as my experience with it has showed.
The One S will still be Microsoft’s budget console. They made this clear at the E3 when they showed the One S alongside the One X. Many people from Xbox side are treating the One X as a replacement and the thing that will turn things around for Microsoft, but the strategy of the company is to price the X at a premium point and keep the S as the bulk of its sales, at least for now.
However, because the One X is better than the PS4 Pro, anyone looking into buying a 4K console will buy the X, perhaps even alongside a cheaper PS4 model, and run the bulk of their games on the X while keeping the PS4 just for Sony’s exclusives. That’s a pretty good strategy on Microsoft’s part, actually.
Not sure if I’ve already posted in this one, but if you haven’t picked up an Xbox One to play Forza, you are essentially missing out on one of THE greatest racing game(s) of this decade. Just my two.
