I guess i just enjoyed actually starting a series with no upgrades. Getting a feel for the car and upgrading it bit by bit. The upgrade pace didnt feel so slow that it annoyed me, even before that first update.
By the end of the series i felt like i had accomplished something with that car. It was fun to slow down when i started with a new car, focus on the basics and when i had a race or two completed, have some upgrades that made me feel more competetive. I know if you removed the upgrade points i could still go into the career with the same mindset. But i would probably go back to quick upgrading straight away. It was a welcome change to be forced to start slow and get a bit of progression with a car. Almost made me feel a bit connected to the car in the same way i do when i spend lots of time leveling up a character on an rpg or something along those lines.
By replayability, i mean that i can restart the series and try it with one of the other car selections. Not just with the same car over and over.
I never enjoyed the forzas where i bought a car and could upgrade it to the max straight away. I can understand why you would want that in free play if your just having fun with random builds, or you are playing multiplayer and need a car to be at the same PI as everyone else.
I think the upgrade points should be removed or unlinked from anything other than the career mode. But I havent been in multiplayer yet would see how it would get annoying. Especially since ive read that it wasnt going up from multiplayer races.
The other forza games where you had unlimited upgrades straight away just made me feel obligated to upgrade it to a high level. I would put all the race upgrades on it, crash a bunch of times and never understand anything new or learn what was upsetting the car. It was nice to be railroaded into a certain experience to start with that quickly opened up for that car during the career mode.
For example, i started a series with the 70’s skylines, bmw 2002 and rx3’s. I had to use stock everything for the first race and had an absolute blast! Sliding around the track on tyres with no grip and bouncy suspension. It was hilarious getting into the different style of driving it took to be faster than the other stock cars and AI.
It’s nice that you can enjoy the game I guess, you’re an optimist. However, they are not doing a good job. They have failed this last month and a half to actually fix much of anything (just because it works for some doesn’t mean it works for everyone).
I just think that prasing someone for promising content that should have been there at release, and saying ‘good job’ when they leave things broken while dragging their feet on the fixes is not a smart move. This is especially true when said person has a bad habbit of lying to your face, why should you trust they will keep their word at all?
Prase them, by all means, but only AFTER they actually have done what they should, not before. They haven’t done anything to warrant you giving them the benefit of the doubt.
As noted in a reply, this is mainly directed at the management, not the general devs. The devs just do the work they’re handed. I realised I hadn’t made that clear.
You might not be able to make this game, sure. But you are one person, with I assume no skill in making games. They are a whole dev team, with lots of experience, with a multi-billion dollar company backing them up. They have made good games in the past, they should be held to that metric.
Also, a terrible cook can put in a lot of effort to make food. That doesn’t mean said food will automatically be good. It’s even worse when you realise they used to be good cooks and once made good food. That makes them worse than unskilled, that makes them lazy.
The new ForzaTech engine and Fable from Microsoft are to blame as to why Motorsport was released unfinished. Well, it probably should have been delayed… but besides that.
You can google the interviews where they discussed how many problems they had developing the new engine. If I remember right they had to hire over 100 new devs to help get it done. Sounds like a hot mess to me!
Motorsport is such a small ($$) game in comparison to Fable I understand why (from a business perspective) they pulled resources from Motorsport. It still sucks though for sure.
Just thought I’d share why it happened and why they really didn’t have 6 years of development. The story is actually kind of interesting if you want to read about it. It’s the reason for the recycled content that got thrown in and what not too, that was not the original plan.
Yeah i can understand that, im new to the forum side of things here and didnt realise how deep the passion is from the community for them to perform.
I just saw negative things all over the place, everything was justified ofcourse, but I couldnt see anyone talking about what they actually enjoyed.
Ive been part of big projects (not with game design) where ive worked long hours, for over a year on a single goal with loads of people involved. The end product had some flaws from a completely different department. Serious ones that myself and my team had nothing to do with. Everything that was publicized about the product was just negative and horrible. We felt like 2 inches tall after seeing it all.
I was just trying to bring a bit of awareness that the flaws arent everyones fault. I could have been more specific or explained myself better now that i look back on it. I just said the devs were doing a good job. I saw it in the eyes from someone who has been part of those types of projects where the faults are normally from the few not the majority. Just felt bad for those that actually worked hard and got things right with their little contribution.
I still want to create a place on this forum to talk about the things we enjoy with the broken game we have at the moment. Id love to learn how other people have their fun with it, wether they are a casual chill sim player, or want to really get into the competetive online races.
But yes, this thread has started out on the wrong foot and i sincerely hope to start the next one off with the right mentality.
In fairness, there are a lot more people who dislike the game then there are that like it, current steam reviews for me are 33% and xbox is at 1.9 of 5. You really shouldn’t be supprised that negative comments outweigh possitive ones with those metrics.
No, I’d agree, they’re not everyones fault. I’ve said elsewhere, I believe the fault is down to management, not the general devs who are just doing the jobs they’re given. Unfortunately, the upper guys make the decisions, and they have made bad ones in this case, so I’ll amend what I said to say management have decided to underdeliver, and are also dragging their feet.
There are definately some good aspects to this game though, I just feel we should be realistic about the fact a lot is broken and needs work. I do hope it gets what it needs, but unlike you, I’m more a pessimist.
I should note, I actually am friends with one of the guys who worked on this game. He worked hard and does his job, he wasn’t management though, and so any issues he may have brought up probably weren’t listened to, I guess. I don’t hold him directly accountable, nor the other non management people.
It sucks to see what Microsoft is doing to the gaming industry. It’s not even just the Forza franchise… it’s every studio they touch. Quick flip game pass profits. Micro trans, DLCs galore… I get why these studios sell out but dang I wish they wouldn’t!
So if anyone is interested, i made another topic to hopefully talk about the possible good things after starting off acknowledging the flaws. I would enjoy seeing your contributions and passion ignited over there.
Duuuuuuude… New to message boards or what?! I’m not saying this to chase you off, so if you feel that’s my purpose with my next question, at least understand it was not my intention. Why are you frequenting this message board, if you don’t want to read negativity? The game was not released in a good state, there is going to be plenty of negativity about that by consumers. If you’re having fun with the game have fun, stop torturing yourself. heh heh That said, if you celebrate it, have a happy Thanksgiving.
Your patience is admirable. You probably rent an apartment and are happy that the water will be connected maybe after six months. Others would call for a rent reduction.
The time at which the service is provided is certainly relevant.
I will stop by there regularly. And if things actually turn out well, then maybe I’ll let my new PS5 with GT7 rest for an evening
Regularly means every 6 months…
