And yes I have played other racing games / sims of the last 20+ years on PC (and own most of them) so I do know my Assetto Corsa from my Automobilista!
I think the things that make a great experience for me are:
Fantastic multiplayer that matches me with people who are the same skill level so I get a proper race!
Great controller support (not everyone has or wants a wheel)
I love the car points CarPG system that everyone else seems to hate - it great to be rewarded for skillful driving and helps with learning the tracks.
I love the sound effects
I love the variety and interior details of cars.
I enjoy the single player campaign.
The tyre wear element is fun - choosing tyres and deciding when to pit
The weather effects are really nice.
The in game menus and music have been radically improved.
In short I have been addicted to this game like no other since it has been released and play far too amny hours daily!
Whilst I like and have completed the single player campaign on Forza Motorsports 7 (which everyone gets so misty eyed over) the older version now seems one dimensional and no where near as good as this latest version to me.
I know there will be loads of people who disagree with this personal view and thats fine (there are plenty of threads for you to add to).
But if like me you love this game, just put a short comment below - so I know I am not the only one!
The racing is fun, but overall the game is severely lacking in polish and cohesiveness. The game has promise if they can turn things around quickly but performance, bizarre missing features and an overall lack of content need addressed yesterday.
Whilst I can see your point - do people really need 500+ cars on day one I wonder! In any case, I expect / hope Microsoft will turn things around in the same way they did with flight simulator.
I am very happy with the game. The physics feel very good. I like the car points and leveling system, the online racing is the best I have seen in a Forza game and I like the weekly playlists. The controller support is very good, I don’t have room for a wheel set up.
That being said the single player campaign should be 3 or 4 times longer than it is. The penalty system needs some work. The track and car list is on the small side. I wish they would add more race modes to free play, bring back the auto cross mode from the other games and make it available on every track, where is the drift mode, why do we have drag cars and tires but no drag strips?
““Am I the only one who thinks Forza Motorsport is totally, utterly brilliant?””
It depends. If you’re the person who posted “Removed visible graininess on the 2021 Lexus LC 500 Race Roll Cage texture,” when you’re told that the entire graphics engine is completely broken, then I would say yes, you are the only one.
no you’re not, i love this game too. i understand the frustration with certain decisions made, but the way the game is now i am enjoying it. I have 54 hours in since oct 5th and 11 cars at level 50 without using upgrades, auto drive, or exploits.
I can’t wait to see what this game looks like a year from now with all the new cars and tracks they have planned.
I’m enjoying the racing, but I don’t think I could call the game brilliant overall.
A couple of things that disappoint me are:
The AI. If they wouldn’t have said they were using new machine learning AI, I would have assumed they lifted this AI straight from FH5.
The first 2 or 3 of them put up a fight until you pass them and then they seem to just give up.
They love to brake check you, so you rear end them and lose all of your momentum.
They love to try to pit maneuver you and it’s a much more effective tactic than it is in FH5.
The other thing that disappoints me is that the tune/livery creation and sharing aspects seem like they were an afterthought while these features are a core component of the FH series.
All of that said, I’m looking forward to seeing what the game grows into over the coming years.
Can anyone explain why you cant turn the wheel all the way left or right and it seems like you ha e to drift just to unlock the steering angle? I really wonder if anyone who works on these games ha e ever driven a car
You are not the only one that really likes this game. I am not an online racer. My gaming has been single player. I have been playing on an Xbox and on a laptop with a 4070 graphics card. I have been having some minor graphics problems on the laptop . The Xbox has worked very well. I realize that there are so many variations of PC’s that it will take some time to correct everything. Overall I have been enjoying the game on both devices.
Everyone has different ideas of what they want in a game. It is nearly impossible to make everyone thrilled with the initial release. I was concerned that they would ignore single player mode entirely and cater only to the online gamers. I would have preferred the single player mode be more old school and have you start with one clunker and then work up to race cars. But I have been really enjoying the single player and I think they did an outstanding job.
I really enjoy MP as it’s generally always competitive and entertaining. One minor improvement I would like to see is practice/qualifying reduced to 15 mins tops so that races start sooner.
Also really enjoy rivals. Spending most of my time here outside of afk leveling. It’s a huge step up from rivals in Horizon. No complaints here outside of a desire to find/change tunes more efficiently and jump back into same race.
Not a fan of the car leveling system. Don’t think anyone is really. I understand it was added as a mean to boost player engagement to reach targets for Microsoft. But this has come at the huge expense of player satisfaction.
Also not a fan of the campaign but that’s more personal preference then anything.
Aside from that, the game feels very bare bones to me both feature and content wise. Kind of like a house with a foundation and frames but not much else. Overall I rate it a 7.5/10 and I will continue to play it for MP and rivals. Moving forward I’m interested to see how this game evolves and whether player voices are heard.
You sure you have played AMS2 as you claim… 20 years… you like “pitting” movie here over say f1 games? you like AI of fm over raceroom and iracing? i think paying $100 making us justify the purchase. i too want it too be good but that may take 6 more years.
yes MP is the only thing working for me, i wish starting safety rating were e or d not A. in iracing it was so much fun to get promoted from rookie to A class, here i did 2 intro races and got S class and still matched with rammers, may be the game didnt sell enough to get a lobby of S rank non rammers.
You’re either a troll, new to the genre and have easy to please expectations, or are delusional. I’m not saying this new Forza is terrible, but it’s at best satisfactory. This game is lackluster in so many ways and is so far from “totally, utterly brilliant” that it’s not even funny. They’ve accomplished nothing ground breaking, and have actually taken steps backwards in some regards. Maybe I have high expectations, but when GT7 came out, I binged it for hours on end for days, I was hooked. By comparison, I feel like I’m having to make myself play Forza, partly to justify buying it, and partly because I’m hoping that there’s something I’m missing and I’ll suddenly start enjoying the game when I figure it out.
It’s not bad, that is for sure, but I don’t think it’s a masterclass in anything that it sets itself out to be. It works well for what it is, and I feel like we’re actually going to get a much better game than Forzas of recent memory. I’m actually enjoying this one more than I think I’ve enjoyed a Forza since 2 or 3. It misses some marks absolutely spectacularly, mainly concerning the framerate issues and weird rank glitches, but it does have the best handling model I think we’ve had, and a decent enough system to learning the cars. In all, not horrible, not perfect, but a very solid foundation.
I’m with you. I recognize that there are a lot of flaws, but I love the core of this game. The car leveling system, although not perfect, gives me much more of a feeling of ownership, and makes the online races feel more impactful due to the preparation required.
They should totally make the experience of leveling the cars better, as in its current state there isn’t much to do with a stock car aside from free lapping, but if they add that type of content it will be a great system in my opinion.
For now, the system works fairly well for me and I’m enjoying it. I’ve only played the career mode so far and am progressing it very slowly. The racing is enjoyable and relatively challenging if you start near the back, albeit the AI needs to be much better at racing behind you - they simply seem unable to overtake unless they are miles faster.
The CarXP hasn’t been a big issue for me so far, as I think it works ok for the career. I’m sure I will get frustrated with it in due course though, particularly when I want a second version of a car. That said, I’m confident that they will need to change this substantially, so I’m not too worried about this long term.
More tracks and more single player events are urgently needed, so we will have to see how they progress that over time. The Horizon approach of adding very little permanent to the game, and relying on weekly events, will not work here.
