Help With DOR

So, I got a wheel yesterday and I need some help with my DOR. My issue is that I am over steering literally out of every corner with all the assists on. I have no problem catching the car but it’s exhausting doing it dozens of times per lap. I never had this issue when playing the controller with the assists off so I think it has to do with my DOR.

My question is, which way should I be going to fix this? Should I go up on the DOR or should I be going down? I am currently playing at 540 DOR. Any help would be appreciated.

Try reading this information: http://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst41479_Steering-Wheels-and-You---A-Hopefully-Helpful-Guide.aspx It is very helpful.

I actually did read that thread and that is where I got a lot of my current settings from. I actually own my own forum so I know the “rules” so to speak. The only thing I am struggling with is the DOR. Since I posted this I played around up and down from 540 and I’m still not happy.

Going down actually made it a lot worse and going up made it better but harder to steer overall. There has to be some “sweet spot” somewhere around 540 but the more I mess with it and the more I play I also think that the over steer might be tied to DOR AND the force feedback.

Michael, I agree with Snowowl. That article is incredibly helpful. But it is missing some information that I eventually learned by feel. If you’re not a tuner and are driving the cars stock, the wheel has a very different feel from the controller. The cars are setup with a tremendous amount of oversteer for wheel users. The feel with a controller is very different. You really need to brake early and accelerate out of turns with the wheel to be successful. If you overcook a corner entry you’re asking to go around. It’s much harder to brake late with the wheel, but you can make up for it by adding throttle mid corner and having better exit speed. If you are a tuner… tighten up your setup (add understeer) and you’ll have a more stable car in the corners. Just don’t go too far! I use the default 540 DOR and I can correct in the corners and mostly avoid losing the back end now that I learned what I needed to do. But it took many laps of losing the rear every 2 or 3 corners to get there. When you feel the wheel get stiff you’re on the edge of grip and need to slow down or reduce steering input or you’ll swap ends. Hope that helps.

Yea, I figured that out real quick lol. The problem is that I have the G90 wheel and the brake is awful. I heard it gets better over time but right now I had to go 5-70 just to be able to stop the car. And if it doesn’t loosen up soon my left leg is going to be twice the size of my right leg.

First of… Practice… But 270 DOR feels good on most cars.
If you go higher the FFB feels wierd… Im sad to say this but forza with a wheel is not working properly If you wanna go high on the DOR… You can try abit higher DOR on street and older cars btw…
Im a drifter so even that The FFB dosent work properly att higher DOR i use these setings on the tx wheel…
DOR on tx itself 540 DOR
On forza advanced settings 420 DOR
Sence 1
100% FFB
30% vibration
Steering deadlines 0/100
For racing i use the same exept different DOR, depending on car. Sport and race cars 270/360 DOR
Street and older cars 360 /900 DOR…
I still try diffrent settings every time im on forza, but the main thing is to find the right DOR for that car u use…
I realy hope turn 10 will fix the FFB issues…

You can try to raise your dor and then lower your outside deadzone in the forza settings. So for instance do 720 dor with a 0-80 deadzone. Those are just examples of what you could try, I’m not saying that exact setup will work. That will make it a little less sensitive on Turn in, but fast enough for a hairpin. Choose a good track to test this on like catalunya it has basically every type of turn. As far as what car to test, they will all be a little different,so try and use something that you’d use the most.

I’m using the G920 as well and I have mine at 630 and 0,100 steering deadzones.
Anywhere between 630 and 810 works for me but 630 allows me catch tighter turns faster and with good gas and brake control you shouldn’t have a problem with oversteering.

You sir, have found the sweet spot. For me at least. 630 with 5-95 and a FFB or 75 is a winner. Thanks for all the replies.

To be honest, turn 10 need to release a patch for the wheels, they are not working correctly.

I turn my wheel a tiny amount and the car goes full lock, i have adjusted the DOR and messed with all the settings but still the same thing happens, now i know we have all played pcars and thats how a wheel should work, how can turn 10 be 10 years into a a game and still get the wheel settings so wrong.

i have tried playing on a controller and i’m seconds faster, the controller can be turned full lock and the car turns the corner fine, back to the wheel and oh no, locked up again.

if they really want it to be a sim they need to get the steering wheels right.

What wheel are you using? I ask because I am not seeing this at all on my G920 wheel.

Same here, I got the G920 yesterday and I’m real happy with it overall now that I have made some adjustments to the settings. I’m not suggesting there aren’t some issues but this wheel with Forza 6 is 100% better than the experience I had with Forza 5 using the mad catz wheel. After about 24 hours I am already matching my lap times using the wheel and I am certain that with some more practice and more fine tuning within the wheel settings I can improve the times I set with a controller.

I’m still faster with the wheel but I find some strange issues. The force feedback does feel wonky. I’m a fanatecs user. My first problem is why is the wheel auto centering when at a stand still? No other forza’s did this. At a stop I should be able to turn the wheel full lock left or right and it should stay. Only when I start to give gas should it start to center like a real car. I still feel that forza 4 nailed it with the wheel feel and it’s just gotten worse since. Do they even realize it does this? Did they test play with a wheel at all?

I’d do simulation steering + 270 degrees of rotation, see if that helps. Most cars games physics with a wheel seem to fall flat on their face when you have a situation with a lot of steering degrees, somehow it makes it more darty?

I can’t get on with a smaller DOR. i run 900 all the time, and Sim Steering. If I use anything less, the cars feel too twitchy. The only time I ever turn it down is if I’m using a car with a very wide turning circle like an LMP car. I am using a Thrustmaster TX and am generally using a 900 DOR on Sensitivity 2. with a steering deadzone of 1,100

Is simulation steering a Thrustmaster thing? I don’t have that option in my wheel settings. I’d like to try it if it’s available for Logitech users.

Simulation steering is in the assists menu.

The sim setting is in the advanced settings, inside sim racing said someone from T10 said to use 330dor in fm5 so I have been using it in 6 with the TX and works fine!! Edit, sim is is the assists options!

I think he meant the sim/normal steering setting. That 330 dor was said to Darin from inside sim racing, he was told to use it for the ford coyote because that’s what it was programmed for or something like that.

You are right but 330 has really worked well for me,maybe beause I am used to it,i don’t know it justs works.
