Because of how you need to level up cars and earn a TON of CP in some cases to make a competitive car in MP lobbies… it seems generally accepted now that people just turn on FM, jump into a tuning free play race, set all the assists on full, and let the car just grind for a few hours to level up and get enough CP to be useful.
(I have a car doing this right now in the other room…)
That seems horribly silly. Wasteful… and really against the entire Microsoft carbon neutral goal to have people just running their Xboxes and PCs hard core to just generate some silly CP.
Going back to the old models of using overall money to upgrade cars would fix this grind fest.
This does not solve the problem of unqualified racers who also don’t know the tracks’ layout. Making people practice, without a full build, does a lot to make them better quality racers in multiplayer.
Less experienced players have no chance against real sim-cade racers unless they put in a little time and effort.
Everytime I set this up, my drivertard crashes/spins and gets stuck facing a wall. Seems they cant work out how to reverse.
Walk away for 10 mins, only to find he’s been stuck there for at least 5 mins
They have made certain that afk farming not only works unlike the rest of the game, but also that’s user friendly. It all comes down to gamepass player metrics. The more time players spend afk leveling one of the 500 cars which each take 3 hours, the closer they get to reaching said targets for funding.
You’re making a broad assumption that everyone doing this falls into the unqualified category. Some of us have played Forza Motorsport since FM1 and know how to race and how to build cars and tune them. And also know how to race without ramming and rubbing and brake checking. And some feel this grinding to “learn” the cars is a pointless waste of time and effort.
Thats what the 20min practice is before a race? You get a pretty good idea of the layout in 20 mins i kinda get the idea in carrer mode, not that agree but i get it. But if you are like me and want to play online only then it really don’t make sence. And if you take in acc how many cars there are in the game and multiply that by 3 hours per car then you are done lvling them all up around when motorsport 25 is released
My guess is that they will make some kind of pay to max out lvl on cars in the future
To prevent inexperienced players getting crushed in MP matchmaking was invented. With a rock solid matchmaking (hidden skill level, displayed driver & safety rating) and a big enough player base none of the gatekeeping grinds are necessary.
I would also prefer an universal practice mechanic like Gran Turismos licence tests.
Builders Cup entry series without licence requirement, higher series (R class, race cars) behind a SP focused licence. MP entry with a MP focused licence, rated MP with a higher tiered licence.
Experienced players would be able to fly through them and wouldn’t be bothered with grinding every single car.
New players would at least see the basics of driving and racing and would start better prepared.
To reach the level of the fastest players in terms of pace and racecraft is a matter of long & consistent training anyway. Stupidly grinding cars won’t bring you there at all.
Bold from the OP to assume everybody AFK is a noob. I’ve been playing FM since FM1 and I can handle all cars just fine. I simply am not interested to pour time into all the grind as I’m interested in other games too.
Ummm as the OP of the thread, I didn’t assume everyone AFK is a noob, quite the opposite… it’s those of us who have played a ton who do t want to have to do the broke and loveless career to level up a car
Fair enough, I’m used to people stereotyping in gaming forums. I did get through 3/4 of the Builder’s cup without resorting to AFK, but I felt that the gameplay was so repetitive that it was the only way to be able to get the essential done. And I say that as someone who 100% FM3, finished the event list in FM4-7, so it isn’t like it’s because I don’t like racing.
Rivals and freeplay aren’t different when it comes to grinding carXP, it’s boring having to mindlessly grind just to have the freedom of tuning the car the way you want it to be.
The free play autopilot stuff is there to help buttress engagement statistics. The game is being used to delight a player that isn’t even present. A tough licensing regime would improve standards but would probably depress engagement statistics.
If you have seen my previous post, you would have realized I have been through countless hours of racing. I also completed the campaign of FH1 multiple times and even raced to buy all cars in it. I also went very far in FM1 and FM2 when I was a young teenager, which had the progression of slow cars to fast cars long before FM6 was thing. So it is not even about being handled everything on a silver player.
Having to go through 4-5 hours of grinding every car just to have all the tuning options available when it wasn’t a problem in all the forza games before is fully lacking in purpose.
I’m also doing AFK for that achievement of 30 fully leveled up cars, but I wouldn’t even do it if I had to play the game normally.
I have a job and other hobbies, so yeah AFK thingy is a blessing because I’m fortunate to be able to telework.
To be honest, both here and in FH5: I am not a huge fan of the ‘accessibility features’ of this game essentially leading to situations where stuff like this is even possible. I get wanting to be inclusive and appeal to a wide audience but at what point are you creating bad game play and tacitly encouraging it to take place. Games like Slow Roads exist for a reason. Why does Horizon have to offer this same sort of thing?
I’ve already seen the video someone did where a car with full assists on in FH5 was setting top 1% rivals times on tracks where I having gotten into the top 5% was no mean feat.
…talk about ‘feeling slapped in the face’ for ever bothering to put in any effort.
you are so far off lol, im the most casual racer possible, i let my cars grind out in AFK and yet im placing top3-5 most races in my S class 4700 safety rating. Having people driving boring
cars to level them up wont do a single thing.
You’re right, I should not stick to a franchise that I grew up with just because of a game that I don’t enjoy, but would genuinely see it improved. If only it was that easy to not care about things in life.
@Patrick_Moon500 , I would love an effective licensing system. Say something like an A through E or H or so. I’d be happy with a C or D class license if the game matches licensing up correctly. But I’m not sure T10 could put that system in place and make it function properly. But you know most of the races are going to have some B and A racers in the mix. And probably a few E and F drivers in for ramming and blocking.
