CAR PROGRESSION

With the changes coming to Car Progression in Forza Motorsport Update 6, you will have the freedom to equip the parts you want to install on your car regardless of Car Level.

The first change is to remove the level restriction on performance parts, making them all available at Car Level 1. This allows players to install parts in any order they wish, regardless of Car Level. Whether it’s engine swaps, race tires, or body kits, you will have the freedom to build cars your way.

Secondly, players can use in-game Credits to acquire Car Points when exiting the upgrade screen at a ratio of 4,500 Credits for 500 Car Points. This change gives you a choice to immediately upgrade your car using Credits, or if you’re saving your Credits, you can earn Car Points for upgrades through car leveling as before.

After using the revised system, how do you feel about the Car Progression feature as of Update 6?

Previous announcement:
Here’s how we’re changing Car Progression in Forza Motorsport thanks to your feedback.

7 February 2024

Today we’re outlining important changes to the Car Progression mechanic in Forza Motorsport. These updates will give players freedom to equip the parts they want to install to their car regardless of Car Level, while retaining aspects of the system for those who enjoy it.

Firstly, we will remove the locked part mechanic so all car parts can be accessed at Car Level 1 for every car in the game. Once a car is added to your car collection, you can install upgrades to it in any order that you wish. Whether it’s engine swaps, race tires, aspiration changes, body kits or any other part available for your vehicle, you will have the freedom to build cars your way.

Secondly, in addition to earning Car Points through levelling up the car, you will be able to use in-game Credits to acquire Car Points. This means you can begin to immediately install upgrades to your car if you have sufficient Credits or if you would rather save your Credits, you can still earn car parts through car leveling as before.

We’re testing a ratio of 4,500 Credits for 500 Car Points and based on the feedback we’ve collected, we expect this to provide a healthy balance. That means if you’re upgrading the 2021 Volkswagen Golf R with all available parts at Level 1, for example, it will cost 89,775 Credits. In the case of the 2021 BMW M4 Competition Coupé, for all parts it amounts to 125,325 Credits, or for the 1969 Nissan Fairlady Z 432, it totals to 133,875 Credits.

Brand discounts will remain as they currently are. When a car reaches the maximum Car Level 50, a Showroom discount of 5% is applied to future cars you purchase from that same manufacturer. If you get 5 cars from the same manufacturer to Car Level 50, the loyalty discount stacks to 25%. The time needed on-track to reach Car Level 50 will remain between 2 and 3 hours.

We expect these updates to Car Progression to roll out with Forza Motorsport Update 6 in March 2024, and we will let you know an exact date closer to availability. Once these changes are made, we would like your input about the updates once you’ve played it, and you can share that feedback with us on the Forza Suggestions Hub.

I actually think the existence of car points is an improvement. If you want to mix and match parts, you have an allocation pool to work with. You don’t have to purchase all the stages of each part, and are essentially able to remove fitted parts for a 100% refund.

Microtransactions (outside of the principle of them existing) shouldn’t be a problem unless the currencies are unbalanced, the rewards (in this case the car upgrades) are not reasonably attainable, or the microtransactions serve to give anyone an unfair advantage. Otherwise, let rich people donate their money to the devs, who cares?

I don’t see any of these 3 things being a problem here. A whale throwing a million dollars at this game will only achieve what everyone else can achieve by playing the game, and it won’t make them any faster on the track. Microtransactions are only attractive to someone who doesn’t want to play the game to unlock things. The key here will be how they balance the race rewards/credits/car points economy. Currently, it takes 3-4h of driving to take a car to level 50. If it still takes 3-4h of driving to earn enough credits to buy the car points required to purchase all upgrades, then well, the overall reward is still low-ish, but at least there’s meaningful progression in driving level 50 cars or cars in which you have enough car points to attain every upgrade (because the credits you earn can be used to upgrade other cars now). Also keep in mind here that for a lot of cars, level 50 isn’t a requirement to have all the upgrades too. Basically, if after the implementation the majority of people are still idling races to earn credits to upgrade their cars, I would consider the economy to still be broken and any implemented MTX to be predatory.

They detail the credits-to-car-points conversion in the article, and they seem reasonable on paper. As time goes on, we’ll see if that ends up being the case. The main time-gate now will not be leveling the cars, but the payout of the races. A lot of us are sitting on boatloads of credits right now. We’ll see after it’s implemented if our credits pools quickly converge to zero or not. If we’re all able to enjoy the game the way we want to without credits or car points slowing us down and without everything in the game just given to us for free, then all is good. If we all find ourselves constantly broke and having to grind credits to upgrade cars the same way we’re grinding now for levels, then the system’s still broken, we’ll all complain again, and it’ll get rebalanced. If it stays broken and they start offering MTX, then the rest of us still here can quit and move on.

I actually expected using credits to buy car points. Fun fact: actually it was my idea as well (kinda)!

To me buying car points isn’t bad, it’s good actually, it’s almost like the previous car upgrading system, but with 1 more step added.

Maybe I’m just cynical, I’d hate to see this game die from poor management decisions.

I’m shocked by this news! Very great! :trophy:

Most excellent that carxp is effectively going away.

Was always going back to being tied to credits.

Sanity prevails.

We’re on the same boat. I’ve been mentally invested in this series since FM1 when I was just a 15 year old finally able to have a similar experience to GT on my OG Xbox, since I couldn’t afford also owning a PS2. I really want this game to succeed. GaaS sucks, but if they do it right, we can end up with a Motorsport game with 100 tracks and 1500 cars one day. One can dream, but for now, it’s good to see the devs paying attention to the playerbase for the major issues and shoving things in the right direction.

I have 40 million credits waiting to be spent so I’m happy I can buy to upgrade my car straight away

How are we feeling about this?

All upgrades will be available at Level 1! You can choose to either pay upgrades with car points or credits. Upgrading a Level 1 car completely with money only will roughly cost 100k. Getting a car to max level will still take about 3 hours.

I think it strikes a great balance between those who like or dont mind the progression and those that strongly dislike it. Great work T10 for listening to the community and being willing to make such big changes to the core part of the game.

If the rate of gaining credits, and the credits/car points ratio works, this should be OK.
And if we still get the 100% points refund for taking parts off, it’s probably going to be cheaper than just buying parts with credits was

As long as micro-transactions for real money are not implemented after this, I guess it’s okay.

I love it!

I can put the things on I like to have immediately (arb, suspension, gears etc) and then grind my way through the rest. It also gives those that want to the ability to just jump straight to THE perfect car build for them and fight online for day 1 of the series hoppers.

A great change! I’m really glad that credits are useful again and thankful that the developers have listened! Has felt very lonely without anything from you

When you buy Car Points with credits, do you keep them forever?

It’s just going to be a grind for credits instead of for points.

A grinds still a grind.

They need to reduce the time to level to 50 as well so can upgrade more cars offline.

This… This is reasonable. I think I can live with this. The option to level slowly and spend no money or mod quickly and spend credit. There’s your cake and EATING IT TOO. I can get behind this.
