Garage layout... Discuss

I hope this isn’t moved to the wishlist because I’d love to hear thoughts and opinions on this…

I’ve always thought the garage layout in the Forza games were lacking. I pictured the garage something like an actual large room, a garage, where you have all your cars lined up on both sides of the room and the garage stretches as far as it needs to accomodate your car count. You, the player, would be positioned in the middle of the garage and you could toggle down the isle and view each car the way you would in real life. Then Lo and behold! In Horizon 2 Fast and Furious, my garage idea comes to life! That is how the garage in Forza Motorsport should look. They’ve shown it can be done. Gone should be the days of tiny pics of each car. I’m sure the XB1 is powerful enough to do this.

What say you?

I’d say 500 or even 200 cars set up like that would be ponderously painful.

I would like to actually see the car, and pan around it instead of the avatar picture we have now. Same when looking at a design when “shopping” pan, not static fixed angle/position.
How about, when in your garage, you get to pick through manufacturers first, and then drill down, and after you buy a car, you pop back out where you were and not at the beginning again?

totally agree about the design thing. It’s a real pain when you can’t see all of the design on the car. So many times have I downloaded a certain design that looked good from the side but when I looked at it from the back, it’s totally messed up and I have to download a different version. It’s frustrating sometimes.

I’m pretty sure the garage on PGR4 was like that. Or at least similar to what you describe. I’m all for that idea at least!

PGR was one of my favourite games in terms of the garages. Being able to walk around the cars in PGR in the garages was awsome. Forza can take a lot of tips from PGR. If Forza made it so you could walk around the garage and have autovista with every car in the garage, then it would add another dimension to the game.

PGR also had multiple garages with different settings. Each garage could only hold a finite amount of cars, so that would help solve the performance issues. They could make some sort of hybrid compromise, where you feature your favourite and most used cars in different garages, sorted the way you choose, but than a quick link to a full list of every car you have available. Just my thoughts…

I just had another brilliant idea… combine Forza with Minecraft and build your own garages…

So…you’d need a crafting table for upgrades, right? Diamond twin turbos!! Come on!

“Silverstone” racetrack removed, “Redstone” racetrack added.

I liked the custom sorting in FM4 myself.

I think the ability to highlight cars as “favorites” would be helpful. These cars would always be at the front of your list unless you re-sorted it.

The car selection menu as-is was cumbersome in FM5, and could be disastrous in FH2 where we had but seconds to select a car in multiplayer. We really do need a way to narrow it down.

As long as you can sort it by stats and the limit is at least more than having all cars I am all good.

I think the FM4 garage was almost perfect.

Able to manually sort your cars however you like. I sorted mine into what track they were best suited.

I was the able to view HP, Torque, tyre width, value, cylinders and other quite important part of a cars build - all from the garage screen.

But someone in their great wisdom decided that wasn’t what we wanted.

If they put the same system into FM6, and had rotatable 3D models of the car (instead of current thumbnail) that would suit me perfectly.

Agreed. The FM5 garage was just one of many terrible design choices. The brilliant person behind that idea obviously never played the game.

I stopped buying new cars because I hated having to take so long to search for the car I wanted to race.

Id say just bring back the FM4 layout with minor tweaks. Not sure if a full garage thing could be implemented well.

100% agree. I really miss the sorting options from FM4 and would like to see them returned to FM6.

Short of doing what I was talking about, PTG Claret’s idea is ideal. I do think it could be done tho, maybe with what some of the others have suggested, with sectioned garages based on your criteria or your search/sorting. That way the load on memory isn’t too great, altho I would suspect that processing and memory load would still be much more intense during a race than when simply viewing the garage. Either way, I think we all agree that the FM6 garage needs to be better than FM5, heck, it would kinda make sense that it would be better than FM4 too. I know I’m get’n crazy here, lol, but it would be nice.

Here’s to hoping they come through on FM6.

The idea itself is a decent one but after while I think it’d just become a complete pain to work with considering the sheer amount of cars, would rather stick to as it is, just my view though.

The amount of cars would be a pain for 1 garage but for multiple garages I don’t think it would be too bad.
