Car sounds

Hi all.
The engine sounds are really great in the new videos, my only concern is the pops which are from FH 4 and sound really weird. All of the cars are pops and bangs similarly, the sound effect is the same which would be a shame after the new and great engine sounds.
I know the videos are from a prebulid but anybody know about this sound effects? Is there a possibility these would be changed in the final game??

From what i have seen the pops and bangs standard forza affair. The pops have always been a gripe of mine. Back fire pops only happen above 6K rpm and will only happen abbove that range. I do know DSG farts are back.

Heres Hoping that car sounds are getting a better this time around. Some cars in 4 are just god awful.

Don’t get me wrong, I totally love how PGG worked so hard to improve the overall sound quality and most cars do sound miles better. But what happened with the Porsche 918? Somehow it just sounds too flat and powerless.

Also, some car engine sounds are swapped to the wrong car.

I checked a lot of gameplay videos, but in my opinion many car sound are really weak. For example Ferraris and Lamborghinis, or Lexus LFA is not loud and raw enough.

Honestly, I think most cars sound better with the stock exhaust and airbox. It’s not that the audio after mods is worse QUALITY, but for some reason stock usually has a deeper more muffled note. Race exhaust gives a higher pitch not that has much less depth. TV speakers just can’t give proper exhaust tones, but stock usually has more of a hollow resonance like it’s actually echoing in the pipes, race exhaust loses the resonating echo. Race usually has a nice cackle, but it doesn’t have that deep, metallic echo like it should. It almost sounds like the sound is just coming straight from the car, instead of traveling through a pipe.

Overall though, even though stock usually has more of a resonation, there is a distinct lack of bass in all exhaust, and usually doesn’t sound loud enough compared to the balancing of other audio. They get the actual pitch and details right on a lot of stuff, it just sounds like they need more depth and volume to it. Maybe they think it would be annoying/overpowering if it was properly balanced with the sound mix, although they don’t have any issue with making the heavy wind/rain sounds feel like they are going to blow my ear drums.

It’s definitely better than FH4 audio, even with it’s shortcoming. I’ve also noticed less reused exhaust sounds, not counting engine swaps, obviously. TONS of cars on FH4 had that synthesized, digital sounding exhaust, that would mess up if you rapidly tapped the throttle near redline. FH5 sound definitely could use some improvement, but it’s more than acceptable.

Exactly. Nissan Skyline R34, Nissan 350Z, BMW M3 E46 doesn’t sound right if I remember well.

The one thing I’m noticing is with the upgraded transmissions. I know race transmissions will have straight cut gears and have a high pitched whine that increases with speed but I think it would eventually get annoying in a street type car / build. I’d like an option to increase the number of gears in an older car but not have the straight cut gear whine. If it’s a full blown race car, then it fits but for the majority of the cars we build, it should be an option to have straight cut gears or not.

Please fix the sounds on the 2003 Nissan 350z and 2005 BMW e46 m3. The sounds are swapped around. Go check out Luce’s Lair video called “Forza Horizon 5 Engine Sound Error (PLEASE SHARE THIS URGENTLY)”.

I hope this is because we’re all getting these videos in our suggestions (Forza staff please watch) Forza Horizon 5 Engine Sound Error #2 (HENNESSEY VENOM GT) - YouTube

Anyway, been thinking today about a Windows Up/Down mode? So we can have the same audio as in chase view but in first person/in car. Small and fussy but it’s annoying having different sounds (sometimes), having to switch views etc and this could resolve that.
Please use the radio buttons though as a Hold Button & Toggle… too many buttons needed already

This video has some sounds of the car compared to reality: - YouTube

Seen a handful of gameplay vids now - from Fastlane Gaming and the other “usual guys”, using multiple views.

Car sounds are same ol’ same ol’ - in fact many sound much worse. Same problems:

  • Inaccurate notes
  • Too much “hssss” and treble in the sound effects and nowhere near the bass and midrange you’d expect to hear from actual high HP cars (RIP Forza sounds)
  • Cars still sound tiny and do not have that fierce exhaust character they have IRL
  • Turbo sounds appear to be generic
  • Popping sounds - ugh! Same flat and boring pop sounds from FH3 and 4.

Looks like the same standard affair, different map.

They hype their games up too much. Anyway, I’m done. Sound is a disappointment and I see one of those multi-page threads popping up soon about people showing their disappointment with the sound. I honestly think FM7 will still sound better than this game.

Fh2 and 3 sounds were the high point in the series I think.

Final note, why does every car - stock and upgraded - has such a loud trans whine in chase view?

Another product with not enough quality testing? Come on…

Awe I love the sound of the Trans Am Forza Editon! But then I love the sound of a leaf blower going at full throttle! :rage:

No really, I agree with everything you said. And yes the TA sounds pathetic.

Why can’t they just digitally sample the actual cars and import those sound files in for the engine sounds?

Games sound different live vs youtube compression. I also love the gearbox sounds.
I have hope. Such an improvement still when you watch those fh4 / fh5 audio comparisons.

Overall the new car sounds are so much better than previous FH games, but to me they still dont sound exactly like the real cars, although it was recorded from them.
After listening to some in-game car sounds and real counterparts, to me it seems the in-game care sounds lack the necessary bass/low end for each car engine.
I listen especially to the RS6 Avant and a V8 from a new Mustang, and they lack the low end sound that you’d feel in your body when driving besides you.

Or is it just me that feels it they need some bass added to the engines?
Could/would they alter the car sounds to make them sound even better?

Not to be snarky but what are you listening to the car sounds with? Headset? Surround sound? What is the Frequency Response range to the subwoofer or headset? Does it go down to 20 hz? You can normally find that on the spec sheet for whatever sound equipment you are using.

When you are talking about LEF or Low effects sounds even if the game is putting them out your system may not be able to reproduce them. Most home surround sound setups don’t do 20hz bass reproduction anyway. (lowest the human ear can detect normally)

Dosent really matter the audio system i’m using, if on the same system, the irl sounds are bass-ier than the in-game counterparts.
And for reference I listen both on a Logitech Z623 that has enough bass for what it is, and a Samsung HW-Q600A 3.1.2ch Soundbar

L.E. an example:

Real: BEST Shelby GT500 LOUD Exhaust Sound Compilation - YouTube

Real car has a bit more bass overall in its sound, but this applies to almost all cars in FH5, so either it was because of the car recording, or whatever they mixed in the studio, after

Not a sparky post at all. The cold hard truth. But as a professional sound engineer, mechanic, and general car guy, I can tell when they’ve got the sound right and have enough system to get the depth out of the sound range. This game dose miss the engine sound for the most. There are some they did get fairly good though. I’d say in general, they might have hit over 50%. But who’s counting?

Hello, great job on the car sounds. Much better improvement from previous fh5 and makes the game feel alive. I have a suggestion. I feel like some cars have too much transmission whine, and on some road cars, that isn’t realistic. I think some cars should tone down on the whine, and be less “Race Car” for what the car actually is. For example, the Centenario is one of the cars that has this problem. It is a very fast car and all, but there is too much whine and makes it sound like a fully fledged race car, like an Fxx- k. Some cars are also much to quiet. From the gameplay I have seen, The Fxx-K should be louder. Thanks for your time!

WE NEED MORE TURBO!
By this of course, I mean noise. Such a simple implementation, yet not even thought of by the devs. Listen, all they have to do is add some other section like an advanced section once hovering over the turbo in engine upgrades. What they would put in this, is maybe a slider for whistle, which could go higher with the more upgrades you do. I also believe there should be an option for purchasing a blow off valve, with the option of also not using one. Coding in the sound of a HKS BOV or some other atmospheric dump valve would be such a great edition, as even with the amazing exhaust sounds we’re getting with this game, I still feel as if more could be done. Let me know your opinions on this, as this would greatly improve the experience and thrill of a tt hurricane.

I’ve recently watched the dart’s yt vid on the cadillac cts-v and first it sounded like it wasnt revving at its max rpm, and second it should sound like the Camaro zl1 since they share the same engine.
