The Sounds of FM6!

I think we can agree about this one… The sound is the true soul of every car!

The thing is - the ONLY car in FM5 that actually could change sound after exhaust upgrades, was the BMW E36 M3!
It’s like changeing the turbo, but no change in sound or changeing for race slicks, but not getting more grip!

It totally kills the immersion - think about the days of Forza Motorsport 2. The time I’ve used just changeing intakes and exhaust systems!
The sound of a car is so important to make it come alive and yes we got great sounds through out the years - but now it’s time to take the step even further!

Remember this: the Xbox One got 512 sound channels (nearly the double of a PS4) now use it to blow us away!

Thank you!

The sound indeed does change after exhaust upgrades at every car. In my opinion FM5 has one of the best car sounds i have ever heard in racing games. Just make a comparisation to the gt series. That are terrible car sounds. But for FM6 there is always space for sound upgrades.

Was I the only one who felt that the sound in FM5 was a bit of a downgrade from FM4? I felt like the thunderous bass was less present and the sound in general felt just a bit… smaller. Am I alone there? That being said, the sound in FM5 was still quite impressive, and while improvement would be very cool, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if it stays on this level

No,you are not alone,i too thought FM4 had better sound.

Agreed, it just seems to lack the range that the FM4 sounds had. Like someone turned the treble and bass down on a radio eq and left the midrange. I thought it was just my speakers at first, but plugging in my surround system from the other room didn’t make much of a difference. Also, it seems like my own car never sounds as loud as the car I’m racing against, even if its a 370z and I have a big block corvette. I should be deaf, but all I hear is the 6’er in the z (it also makes it hard to hear shift points).

I think FM4 was the apogee in terms of sound design for Forza; however, there were some upgrades I liked in FM5, in particular the waste-gate noise adjustment for the RUF CTR Yellowbird - that was a major improvement over FM4. I do miss things such as the supercharger whine in FM4. It seems to be really reduced on both FM5 and FM6, especially when it comes to you adding a supercharger to a car - i.e., aspiration conversion. In general, I am still very happy with the sound on FM5 & 6 (tire noise in FM6 is quite improved and impressive). I just hope that they continue to push the boundaries as they go forward, even though the the former sound director has moved to Sony and the Gran Turismo series.

I look forward to Porsches in FM6, but I miss my Yellowbird as well. : )

Turn 10 should always be aiming higher, never resting on their laurels, hopefully we will be pleasantly surprised by many things in FM6, including even more amazing sound.

Now if you just take let’s just say a beetle and put a turbo on it. yes there will be an amazing diffrance in sound

All i really care is the Blowoff valve sound from turbo cars.

A small number of turbo engines cars have extremely loud (and sexy!) BOV sound when lift off from throttle, but I also noticed some of these engine only have the sound when you’re INSIDE the car or in hood view, there is almost no sound in 3rd person view or from other people’s view, the Supra’s 2JZ is one of them which is a huge shame! Wish all cars with upgraded turbo have loud BOV sound , I want people driving in front of me thought they are like being chase by a hungry monster!

Other then this I think the sounds are okay in the current game, of course if it can be as good as those pc-sim racers it will be great!

Varied sound as a result of modifications would be warmly welcomed. The only thing I’ve pondered, however, is: are we asking that Turn 10 artificially alter the sound in an attempt to make it sound different due to an upgrade component? Or are we expecting Turn 10 to find a vehicle where recording each and every modification be accomplished? I’m assuming if sound alteration was to be provided (as it had in the distant past), it would be relegated to intake and exhaust modifications. Otherwise, it could prove difficult to have accurate recording of every possible configuration.

That said, I am all for Turn 10 doing the tweaking to create an artificial sound when a component is upgraded; so long as the team feels like it can be accomplished with some level of authenticity.

I definitely agree. Many of the V8’s just sounded, well lacking. More like sewing machines than thunderous roar. But it wasn’t just lack luster sounds coming from under the hood. I felt like the sound of cars backfiring/spitting lfames from the exhaust, was lacking. I do hope T10 really nails the sounds.

There is a reason why I am getting Project Cars
The sounds of the cars are amazing

Sound has always been one of the big selling points for me in the Forza franchise. It really helps with the immersion when I have my headphones in and Im blasting along in one of my favorite car. FM5, I thought that the sounds were really good. The best for me was the sound of the Gallardo Superleggera when you put the top end turbo kit on it. It reminded me of the sound of an Underground Racing tuned Gallardo. Yes, improvement can always be made but I feel that FM5 did really well.

The sounds in FM4 were more ferocious, violent and expressive, but they lacked a lot of quality due to a lot of sound distortion, as if the microphones couldn’t handle the noise.

The sounds in FM5 aren’t nearly as ferocious, but instead manages to capture a lot of the character that was lost in FM4’s shoutyness and delivers sound with outstanding quality and clarity.

I’ve been competing in motorsport for a long time and I’ve had the pleasure to drive a lot of exotic cars, on and off the track. Believe me when I say this; a lot of the supercars in FM4 sound way too loud, especially in the interior. When every car sounds like Godzilla’s roar, you really fail to hear the true essence of the vehicle.

I’m a huge Datsun fan and I own multiple Datsun Z’s, so naturally, the Datsun 432 in Forza is a car I love to drive. Having known these cars very well in my time, I can tell you that the 432 in FM4 sounds very inaccurate. The engine sounds more like an L24 with dual SU Carbs (the engine from a Datsun 240Z) rather than the L20 with 4 valves per cylinder, 3 carburaters and 2 cams (hence the name 432.) The one in FM5, however, although not as ferocious or deep (or loud) sounds identical to the original car, although the gurgling sound of the carbs is still lacking a bit (Try the Ferrari 250 GTO in FM5 if you want to hear how those carbs should really sound like!)

I can go on and on about the number of cars that face the same issue. Loudness does not equal good sounds. Even a lot of cars in pCars sounds like crap; they sound artificial. From what I’ve experienced dealing with cars almost my entire life, FM5 has had some of the best cars sounds I’ve ever heard. Keep in mind Turn 10’s new approach on the franchise; get the fundamentals down to a crisp first before adding additional features. If the induction and exhaust sounds are as clear and outstanding as they are now, imagine what a perfected rendition of them would sound like.

Honestly, maybe it’s just me, I don’t understand how people think pCars sounds amazing or SMS’s old game, NFS Shift 2. They sound like cars recorded with a cellphone microphone and then cut/pasted into the game. Sure, some cars may sound excited, but they sure as hell don’t sound real.

guys if sound is to improve (and there is a lot of room for improvement in this sector) turn 10 needs to implement the dsg farts (as they are called) (Available on certain cars eg. audi S and RS models, the new mercedes amg models etc when making an upshift in a car a burble sound is made in the exhaust when changing gear (not when down shifting) , this could really bring some further excitement to playing the game. what do you guys think?

I really urge anyone who finds fault in Forza 5’ sounds to turn the surround sound option in the settings on even if you don’t have surround sound and crank the sound through some good speakers or headphones and tell me what you think. The sounds change with mods and are awesome. 2 cars I tried where the Zonda Cirque and I think the Plymouth Cud with a supercharger upgrade. Cranking the volume on either of these cars doing what I said will make you weep. Every little sound from the charger at idle through to the roar was awesome. I do think the engine note upon shifting could be better though which I hope they achieve in 6. Forza 4 for me was okay, it got some cars right and I believe I even defended what I’m about to mention at one point. After hearing Forza 5 it made me realise the smaller stock cars just barked too loudly in 4. 5 felt more realistic to me. I guess everyone has an opinion though.

I agree. I have an arcam surround sound and 7 speakers in my living room and Forza 5 sounds awsome on those. My main fault with the sound is that if you put in a new exhaust you don’t notice it which is ashame. Though for the most part it’s almost perfect for me. Even when I pass under a bridge in the game the sound of the air wooshing over you is incredible. I just hope somehow in they improve the sound. I totally agree about the V8’s though, they don’t sound as throaghty as they should, and the Mclaren P1 sounds a little washed out or is that just me.

^^ That!

I really want the audio character and “personality” of the engine/exhaust to change after upgrades. Hasn’t been all that noticeable since FM2 (non-existent in FM3).

And every car should sound as close to RL as possible. Some sound really good in FM5, some are off.

I upgraded an NSX yesterday, and while the engine sounded loud and growly, the turbo sound was just a loud, constant and annoying hissing sound as if somebody had left a recording of hissing rattlesnakes in the engine.

Test your product before releasing you T10 guys! We love you for the work you do, but please, a little more refinement and testing in future products, thanks!

tbh they just need to stop importing sounds over from previous titles and tinkering with them, they need to actually implement the blips, bangs, crackles and pops of the actual car’s exhaust (before upgrades) this is where the real euphoria is!!

We ALL want real sounds of the cars. Just simply add sounds when people upgrade their cars with Turbo or whatever.
