Do you think they finally improved the car sounds? Forza Horizon 4 had probably the worst in the entire series… they have to step up!
Seemed the same to me, as FH4. I hope they improve the sounds
It’ll be the same sounds and probably the same models as before.
The C8, and Jesko sounded different, and I didn’t really detect any EQ or mixing red flags. I also detected a bit more bass than usual in the exhausts. Hopefully this won’t be a problem.
yes. i would like improved engine sounds too, because most of classic cars with V8 engines sound the same, especially muscle cars
Definitely ! Maybe not for ALL cars but certainly at least for cars that had terrible exhaust sound accuracy in FH4 , for example the BMW M5 F90 sounded horrible and bland in the game in comparison too the real world F90 M5 which has a beautiful exhaust sound.
They should really improve the sounds especially rev and gear changing speeding etc.
Yeah the trailer sounded decently good, but I went back in to listen to the Horizon 4 announce trailer of Britain and the sound was fantastic there too… but we know the end result. Could almost say false advertizing on that one but lets not be dramatic.
Audio is almost a make or break thing for me, l’m staying cautiously optimistic.
Sounds, in general, will not improve. This is just an unfortunate side-effect of the car list growing larger. Sound files are huge hard drive hogs, and more cars = more files. That’s why we’ve started to get cheats and repeats. PGG has probably been told the game can’t be over a certain size by Microsoft.
When I noticed that the listing in the Microsoft Store listed the game as supporting mods, I got really excited, hoping for an official, developer made sound mod for those of us who have the hard drive space to spare, but it turns out that was a mistake and will be removed from the listing ![]()
They should do something about it as they’re always banging on about listening to the community and this subject is talked about everywhere online. They’ve had nice sounds in older Forza games like FH2 and FM6 so why not?
Asides from improving car sounds. Why don’t we get a dedicated menu in the upgrades/performance shop to tune exhaust notes to how we want. If NFS can have it Forza surely can or just hire a new sound design team.
I believe Forza Motorsport 4 was the last game to have actual recorded engines which probably would have been around the same time as horizon 2. I may be off a little bit on that. But prior to that they used to record the actual engines except for the cars they couldn’t get and then they would use modified versions of similar ones. There’s even some videos out there showing microphones clipped onto bumpers as they revved the cars. You can tell when you play those older games the sound quality is not as good but the engine note and differentiation is significantly better. The problem now is we have what 900 cars or something ridiculous and they just can’t have that many different audio clips so they have a sound engine that they put in a couple modification options and then it generates the audio. That’s why we basically have four or five primary engine sounds that are slightly different depending on the vehicle. They also need to have a system as mentioned by somebody previously like need for speed has where you can actually tune the engine sound to what you like. that way if you don’t like the default, make it whatever you want and you can go about your business happily.
Yeah we get that, but but but
How about making the sounds somewhat decent? Having cars like the Pagani Huayra souding like they recorded the sound with a cellphone is just disgusting. The Chiron and Divo don’t sound that bad, and neither does the Agera RS. But all the Lamborghinis and most Ferraris are just plain bad. But even so, with so many cars, they could at least allow mods so players who got enough HD space can have a decent experience.
You dont need storage space to mix audio properly.
Anyway. Some promising commentary regarding the matter: https://twitter.com/BeetleComet/status/1405658612568109062?s=19
Going by the trailer I am sure no one at T10 or PGG has ever heard a real Lamborghini. My Hyundai Getz has a better sound than what they showed.
Did you saw the gameplay video? The same Huracan model from FH4, and the sound is actually WORSE than FH4. The Jesko also sounds horrible.
“its evolving, just backwards.”
The quality of engine sounds always seems to lag far behind the visuals, but that also depends on the car. I’ve hears VERY accurate Subaru engine sounds in games that were made over 10 years ago, but somehow FH4 managed to have the most obnoxious Subaru engine sounds to date. Oddly, it was much better in FH3. I own and drive a Subaru Impreza in real life, so it would be nice to have an in game Subaru that sounded at least a bit like a real one. If the devs would just use the FH3 sound files for FH5, that would be great.
Oh, and don’t even get me started on the Viper’s V10 sounds in FH4…beautiful cars but I NEVER drive them because the engine sounds make me want to spew every time I hear them.
There will be a few like always (likely just for looking good and getting naive people’s hopes up pre-release + on first impressions when we all do the usual drive to the festival at the start) but expect just a slight improvement rather than anything substantial.
Things like this are likely far far down the list at PG now unless a car’s sound is related to the bracketed bit above, accurate sounds improve the experience for people with an interest + some knowledge about what they’re driving.
Does that sound like the average Horizon player/the type of person the series is now seemingly more interested in?
Some will be improved and others will be the same, some probably worse then the previous games. Unless alot of people mention the incorrect car sounds it will most likely not be amended
The devs need to take a long hard look at YouTube. The community as a whole seems to think, by the countless examples posted by countless users, that the sound has seriously taken a step backwards since FH3. The quality of the recordings in FH2 weren’t necessarily what made them so good, but it was the uniqueness. Every car really did sound unique and true to itself. Now so many engines of a similar configuration sound the same. Hell, one of the videos showed two same exact Subaru WRX’s, on from FH2 and one from FH4. The one from FH2 had that true Subaru rumble. The one from FH4 sounded so incredibly generic. It was a bad sound, but it just wasn’t right.
