Car sounds

I just want to make it clear that the audio system you are using absolutely matter in relation to how cars sound. You miss so much nuance and detail listening through convention TV speakers compared to other solutions. Ideally, a 5.1 channel surround sound system with a decent subwoofer is what’s needed, minimum, to get an accurate representation of what’s really changed. Until we get to listen to the audio ourselves, I would urge people to reserve judgement. Listening through the likes of YouTube, which if I am correct, not only compresses audio quality but also turns the output to stereo (and most upload the comparisons in a stereo format regardless). I know YouTube is rolling out 5.1 support but from what I’ve heard, it’s not optimal and again, most comparisons will be in stereo regardless and YouTube always somewhat compresses audio and it vastly depends on how the user has uploaded the content. So as I said, reserve judgement until we can hear it for ourselves.

Secondly, keep you expectations low. There’s like 550 or so cars in Horzion. There is not chance in hell that PG or T10 have gone out and recorded the real life sounds for every car. It is financially and physically impossible to do so. This is a case of quantity over quality. With this many cars, they will not sound perfect and people have to either except that or hope the car list gets cut back so they can start from scratch. A lot of people will be very dissapointed if they go in with unrealistic expectations.

Finally, I think overall, the car sounds have been improved. There are issues however. I don’t like how Load straight cut gears are in external camera views and I wish there was an audio option to reduce the volume or emilinate straight cute gears altogether. I also think the backfire sounds can use some work and I would love more audio options such as being able to adjust the volume of brake squeal, straight cut gears (as aforementioned), backfire volume, idle volume and such. Improvements can be made and I won’t list all of them here and now but as of this moment, I can’t say much until I get my hand on the title and start playing it.

Tell me the 2JZ from both FH3 and FH4 sounds anything close to a 2JZ with YouTube compression:

That is not the point I am making. Yes, of course, you can judge the sounds from videos on YouTube compared to the original car audio, though I can easily go down the route that it depends on what the original car audio is recorded with, what the quality it is, is it lossless or lossy, and so forth, I could go on and on.

The points I am making are these:

  1. The equipment used to listen to the car sounds makes a difference.
  2. YouTube videos are not representative of the the game actually sounds (for various reasons which I can go into).
  3. You are not going to get fully accurate car sounds with such vast content.

I think we need the option to turn down the sound of the sequential gearbox. I want to be able to tune my gears while not wanting to hear gearbox whine. Sport transmission only lets you work on final drive so it’s just not enough. A good in between is letting us turn down the sound in the settings. What do you guys think?

I think that’s going to be the simplest option and give us the desired result

Hello everyone,

I saw some fh5 videos about camshaft variations and how they effect the sound, it is a great addition to the game, a detail we wanted a long time ago but it needs more attention from the developers.
For instance in reality when you change a camshaft with higher lope in LS engines (GM 8 cylinder engines) , the sound changes when the car is on idle where a chopping sound comes out and the sound coming out of the car sounds differently than stock, which is amazing and every car enthusiast love a chopping sound coming from a corvette for example.

So it would be amazing to add that chopping sound into the game when the car is on idle.

Here is a youtube video on how a car sounds like with an upgraded cam installed:

Not all car enthusiasts love that sound. Just sayin’.

If someone does not like it they can simply choose not to modify ls engine or even change the camshaft simple as that.

PG will take all of the BASS out of it as well. They are still cutting the bass out of their sounds in FH5.

I don’t trust this download thing!

Hi all.
Yes the sound design is a big step forward but it needs adjustements here and there. Some cars dont have proper sounds and sometimes the stock sound is louder, meatier than the upgraded one and they use the old pops and bangs which sound awkward.
I hope in the final game or aftear that with some update the devs will fix these issues.

I’d just like to point out that your fave streamers ( Jake Xvx, JoeWonSong, etc ) all post-process their videos so you’re not hearing raw sounds. It’s likely that the majority of these videos are quite heavily post-processed so I’d take them with a grain of salt ( except for the 918 and P1 of course, those are clearly wrong ). Your complaints about lack of bass, mid range and such may be valid, but I’d hold off harshly judging until you hear it for yourself on a proper rig. Best believe I’ll be back in here and back in their ears if this game doesn’t sound great on my Klipsch Reference Premiere dolby atmos system.

LFE is a setting in the options for the low frequency effects. Most home theater subs easily hit 30hz, many even down into 20hz. These sounds are improved, but still lack a full range sound like GT Sport for example. No rumble from any of the cars I’ve driven, my system does go into the 20s, but this game doesn’t put any frequencies anywhere around that, no cars are putting anything out below 50/60hz my guess.

Don’t suppose anyone has seen any comparison videos on the upgraded car sound for all the different console. Just curious on how they would sound on Xbox one x compared to series x

However when the same person posts the Forza car compared to a real car the Bass drops a lot, and you have to say that it’s the same video, and the same filters applied. I mean the same person used the same everything.

i think we all just need to admit that Forza has never been a leader in the engine sound department. It does not matter what stereo system used they have never produced quality car sounds. PGR-3 sounds better to this day than any Forza. it has always been 2 steps forward 1 step back.

Got to agree, same lack of LFE from the cars as last time. The sounds are a lot better overall, still lacking the low end sounds. My sub won’t even auto turn on unless I have music going in game, the cars don’t put out any low frequencies. No deal breaker, used to this now.

The CVPI sounds terrible in this game. The '93 Mustang sounds much more like a Crown Vic.

I’ve not been too impressed overall, I was expecting better.
I can certainly tell that some sounds are more ‘real’, but there’s no real ‘oomph’ to it. It could all do with a bit more bass/midrange.
I’m listening with a Denon / Kef Q55.2 / 10" sub setup as I always have but it just seems lacking to me.
I have turned down all other sounds but it doesn’t deliver what Youtube led me to expect.

In FH4 I loved taking some cars through those tunnels but the tunnel effect seems so lacklutre in 5.

I’m not a big sound guy or anything but to me the cars sound a lot better than the previous game. Makes them way more fun to drive.
