When I started playing, car sounds from outside the car is nothing special. Its weird because the YouTubers have demoed the sounds and they sounded phenomenal.
Did they messed up the mixing in this build?
However, inside the cockpit, it’s a bliss. You can hear everything with so much detail and depth.
I thought I would post here in hope it’s seen by more of the developers than compared to Reddit or Steam forums etc.
First of all, overall, fantastic improvement of car sounds in general, however I am experiencing some strange occurrences, possible bugs and other such things with some of the engine and exhaust sound for the vehicles.
Changed engine sounds from FH4? In the case with the Peugeot 205 RallyE why was the sound change to a quieter, arguably worse sound in FH5 compared to the amazing engine/exhaust sound in FH4? This is one of my favourite cars of all time and it sounded fantastic in FH4 so I’m really sad to see it’s been changed in FH5, what is the reason behind this? Please would you consider changing it back to the wonderful FH4 sound? Same thing applies to the Audi R8 V10 plus which specifically got a sound update in FH4 to sound amazing but again in FH5 it’s changed again to something less loud and less nice. Please consider reverting these two cars audio back to FH4 versions
Overall vehicle sound volume can be too low externally. This is an issue I am seeing on powerful super cars and regular cars, cars like the FM7 Porsche, various Lambos and the FE Pagani Huayra are very very quiet in chase cam views, and although much louder in cockpit view some vehicle still sound a bit muted or muffled. I thought it might be the case to upgrade the exhaust to see if that changes the volume and it does on some but the problem is vehicles sound louder revving them in the autoshow compared to in the game world. Some cars are really loud for no reason and some a very quiet for no reason or have silent external audio and blaringly loud cockpit audio or like the new MX-5, decent external audio and quite loud cockpit audio volume. Would Devs consider having a look in this please?
Transition between exhaust upgrades audio in upgrades menu can lag or stutter the sound when trying to hear the effects of different exhaust sound upgrades, also, some vehicle have no sound differences at all with exhaust upgrades? This is a two in one. When revving the engine in upgrades menu, I am on a fast SSD btw, the audio can lag behind and take a while to adjust to the new sound when flipping between exhaust or intake or engine swap upgrades. Why is this? Also there seems to be a lot of vehicles that have no engine or exhausts upgrade sound differences at all, this is mostly noticeable on the New Ford Bronco starter car, doing exhaust upgrades doesn’t change the sound at all, is this intended? Or a bug? Same applies to some older Lamborghinis and random Fords. Would Devs consider having a look into this?
Some overall game audio can be incredibly miss balanced and blaringly loud. The Cossie V2 showcase event was almost deafening I had to turn the volume down for it, you could barely hear the car external cam again but much more so it was better in cockpit but the equalisation was all over the place, sometimes the bikes were mega loud, the plane was ear bleeding at times which isn’t so bad as that’s fairly realistic lol but wow, please make the CARS louder. Second point of this the game world volume ambient volume of nature etc can also sometimes be very loud compared to you and your car despite being at a lower game slider volume. It almost seems like the amount of reverb or ray traced audio events are too strong and overpowering despite the actual quality of these sounds being amazing.
Long post, but that’s all. Overall the quality of car sound is better but there are definitely issues with sound balance, volume, and the strange decisions to change engine sounds between games when the examples I mentioned were considerably better In FH4. I hope future updates can alleviate these concerns as I am enjoying the game so far :).
The exterior volume of all cars are too low in my opinion. other cars or effects are louder than mine. i tried everything but it seems to be an issue. Theres also an thread for that if you search fh5 low volume
I think there is a greater issue at play with the volume of the game. It’s a wider problem I think as some cars are so so quiet it is as if the games mixing is messed up. Then you get one car that is full volume and it sounds amazing. As for the cars like the 205 RallyE I really hope they consider giving it back the FH4 engine sound.
Totally agree 100%. The equalization/mixing of all the sounds is off. Like you said, some moments all you can hear are opponents cars, or the train/plane/trucks and you cannot hear to shift your own car. It almost makes the game unplayable for me.
And you stated the sound reverb issue perfectly. Some strange things going on when you get up next to a wall or object. Why try to do this sound ray tracing stuff? It sounds horrible and muddies up the sound in general. Too many sounds going on.
And the environmental sounds are way too prominent. Why can I clearly hear the town bell ringing over the sound of my car when I am not really that close to the bell tower? And a sandstorm sounds more like you have been sucked up in to an F5 tornado rather than being in some gusty winds. I think you should still be able to hear you cars engine at least. The game is totally unplayable during a sandstorm because all you hear is whoosh. And that can last for several minutes at a time. And dogs and birds should not overpower you car. The dog whining is seriously louder than my Hemi at full throttle? Really? And the wind and road noise just adds too much extra white noise that drowns out the car. It’s just not mixed well.
Sorry, long post as well, but the sound setup is ruining it for me. The sounds themselves are good and authentic and genuine, they are just horrifically mixed in together in the game. The car sounds should be the most prominent sound, not the wind or the crowd or the texture of the road or the environment.
Ah crap, I just posted something similar, regarding the volumes. Apparently I’m blind.
I did find something strange, I recorded a short clip for a friend who wanted to see a bit of my poor drifting, and the sound is top notch on the recording. So somehow, recording through Shadowplay fixes it? Clip below for reference.
Glad to see this is getting some traction because the sound quality is fantastic, no complaints with the source of the audio or the recording quality but it’s how they are mixed, either the FMOD engine solution used for the game is not up to the task (which is rare because FMOD is usually and awesome middlewere) or something else is going on with the way sound is loaded. Cars with a 1000hp sound quiet but cars with 50hp sound clear, or again, vice versa.
The lag and stutter when upgrading cars and switching between the different exhaust and it doesn’t play the new sound immediately and cuts out and you just hear the pops and crackles until the audio comes back is very disconcerting. Something more critical is going on somewhere
I recommend everyone in here who has issues, PLEASE report these things on the Forza Support main page bug submission page so they can be added to the already massive list of “known issues”…lol.
I am currently in the process of recording some video clips to attach to these tickets so they can “hear” what we mean.
the crowd and other vehicles drown out the sound of my own car engine exhaust and tires
tire noise during under steer (or really any tire noise at all) is very quiet and nearly impossible to hear
It seems all the sounds are there but not balanced well especially in the cockpit. I have messed with the audio settings but it doesn’t really seem to improve much. I will keep messing with it.
One thing that really helps with the mix if not a complete solution however… turn down the SFX volume. It makes the general volume balance much better. Ambient sounds from nature, animals etc and storms as well as all the collisions and debris you encounter wont blow up through the mix and now the game sounds much nicer balanced.
Also the UI volume is way too loud. Wheelspins were very unpleasant until l heavily cut UI vol.
You should see my deception when I got the huracans and the R8… started to cry… Another horizon with a huracan and R8 with almost zero pipes sound… And the worse is: In Horizon 4 they had the perfect R8 sound.
Maybe the best huracan sound where in Forza 6.
If you’re using a USB Headset with a 7.1 Surround option, if you can, try plugging it directly into the headphone jack. My Logitech G Pro X has a separate dongle that’s used for the Blue Voice feature, but you can plug it in directly with a normal 3.5mm jack. When plugged in via USB, Windows assumes it’s a 7.1 device, even if 7.1 is disabled in G-Hub.
This has fixed the issue entirely for me. Hopefully it works for y’all!
As someone who suffers quite badly with sensitive ears, if they increase the volume of that awful high-pitch scream, I’d like a slider option in the sound settings menu (just as they already have for low frequency sounds) so that I can shut the damn thing off again. I had to stop playing Euro Truck Sim 2 for 3 years until they fixed the damn turbo screech. I don’t want the same nonsense here.
Yeah, there’s definitely little to no audible turbo spool (whine/whistle). Even in interior/hood cam, the transmission noise (upgraded or sometimes not) overpowers any spool noise. Even the blow-offs are far too quiet on most cars. Rev any Skyline in the garage and you’ll only faintly hear it. Compared to Horizon 2/3 turbo and spool noises, this is pretty disappointing.
Just thought I’d also leave feedback in here, overall the sounds are great on most cars I’ve tested (and to add to the points above I actually turned every sound vol. down to like 70-75 and left engine vol. on 100) but I have just one pet peeve.
The RB26 race exhaust (2.6l I6 - TT) has the same sound file as the A90 Supra race exhaust, and the 3.0l I6 T - Racing engine swap exhaust. Despite the great sound, it’s disappointing to hear 3 different engines sharing the same sound.
Now yes, a casual may say the engines are “close enough” given the displacement and being inline 6 turbo/twin turbo, but if you know these engines they definitely aren’t the same nor produce the same sounds. And yes luckily the stock/street/sport exhausts do sound different and more accurate depending on the car (e.g. stock A90 supra exhaust sounds more accurate than race.)
However the triggering thing is that the A90 has DCT, meaning it has that ‘fart’ noise when shifting which is cool and accurate, but because the sound files are shared, the RB26 race exhaust ‘farts’ when shifting gears like it has DCT, even if you leave EVERYTHING stock besides the race exhaust. IMO, the DCT/DSG sounds should be attached to the transmission upgrades, NOT the exhaust.
The A90 are not DCT. They are Autos. and besides all cars use the same gearbox in forza. Just the shift times gear count change. Cars that are DCT or Auto in RL they just have no shift time penalty. Good info on the sound files I would Love to know what the racing 3lt is from
so I absolutely fell in love with forza horizon 5 and love the new sounds. But is there a way to make the turbo sounds louder? They sound quite nice in the showroom but in a race you can barely hear the turbos.
Maybe there’s even a chance that playground games will make them louder.
