Car classes in Stories of Motorsport

I agree with the OP.

I thought the way they did it in FH2 was perfect and not sure why it did not move forward in FM6. Its great in FH2 cause you can just use any car any way you like it and know you’ll get a matched race. It allows you to race different cars and different levels in the same series if you want. I can go through and use B cars then when I want more I can use an S car in the same series.

It made total sense. Disappointed it did not make it in FM6 as it does take the fun out of certain series.

I agree, and some restrictions are like A 650? Why not just go to full A 700? Seems silly that its only half. And like PPi I liked the way Horizons championship ranking was with points and you get awarded based on your final ranking, having to finish podium on every race and having to pass on the first turn isn’t that much to my liking.

I agree. Though I did try several other cars from the list upgraded to 500 and the i235 felt like it was outclassing them in comparison. I was very disappointed the FH2 AI scaling didn’t not carry over into FM6.

That’s not what I said though. I said that it was nice to pick a car for the appropriate category and put it to any PI I wanted while the AI would simply scale to the PI class I chose.

That would be user friendly and good design. Two things Forza does’t do well anymore.

Butas M4dd Dogg said, if they are going with the way they do it now, just make it the full class, not some arbitrary PI in the middle. I’m not going to tune out a car for a 4 race series when every other time I use it I’ll be able to run full class. If they are going to limit it, just make it stock.

Should have been done like FH2, you select the car and the PI YOU want to drive, and the AI tailors it’s cars to what YOU want, rather than you having to tailor yourself to the requirements.

When you pick a new car they take MORE money from you and auto upgrade the cars to the max they can be for the race you’re going into.

Ok so every race I do my car has to be modified like crazy? what gives? been trying to figure this out since the 10th… there’s no option of having this disabled. I know in forza 4 was an option to allow upgrades for computer. Now when you get a car you have to upgrade it to make it a monster.

like the game other then this issue… just hope the car downloads brings back the Pontiac selection and chevy rather lacking…

It seems like if you want to drive a stock car (or at least, very close to stock), then you need to choose a car that has a maxed PI (300, 400, 500, 600, 650, 700, etc.) or one very close to it (within 1-5 PI without going over). Other than that, it’s upgrade time.

I don’t think there’s a way to have you and your opponents race stock/match your PI.

Horizon 2 handled this very well where the opponent cars would upgrade to around where your car was when you enter the race. It’s a pity they don’t do this in F6. It’s ok for modern sports cars but I kinda feel it kills the magic with classic cars to upgrade suspension and brakes and give them more power - they lose their character.

you hit it… I like upgrades as they are to make you better then the computer. Forza 4 I thought handled it awesome have the computer with upgrades or not…but like you said takes the characteristics away from the old muscle cars/stock cars. So now I play career mode like WTH?

Yes, you nailed it.

I’m having fun playing FM6; no regrets. But…I don’t like the mandatory mod system. I’m hoping it’s something that’s addressed in a future update, but since it seems so core to the way everything’s set up, I don’t have high expectations for this.

You can see what cars are eligible for whatever series your racing in, then go the find cars section and buy them separately in the main menu, totally stock

After that you can crank down the difficulty so the drivatars don’t leave you in the dust

This is what I do since the drivatars are always upgraded no matter what and I have no interest in modding my cars

So I assume that PI levels from FM5 apply to FM6?

If so, then why are there a bunch of series with arbitrary PI restrictions, like 660? It’s not the end of the world, but I am not the world’s greatest tuner, by a mile, and so I like to use other people’s tunes, because many of them actually know what they are doing. This silliness makes that impossible. Is this the game trying to force me to tune myself, or use the nasty auto-upgrade system?

There is a bunch of restrictions like this

Modern Hypercar, PI limit R880
Sport GT, PI limit S750
Ultimate Grand Tourer, PI limit S750
Modern GT Racing, PI limit R865
Historic Sportscar Racing, PI limit A675

Why was it implemented like this? To upset me? This is really going to limit my enjoyment of career mode :frowning:

Edit: To clarify, I got these restrictions from ManteoMax’s spreadsheet.

The auto upgraded drivertars is the only thing making me reluctant to buy the game. If they made it an option like in forza 4 I would have pre ordered it.

Yep, they did it just to wind you up - just you, no one else in the world! lol

Just kidding mate, I think it was so you have to choose/build a different car to the usual leaderboard cars/tunes.

Makes sense if you think about it…

The problem with the FH2 way of doing it was it seemed like the majority of people playing upgraded their car to the max, the computer responded accordingly, and then every road trip was just voted to the highest available voting option. It made the online road trip racing kind of lame and it made it so there were no times at all on the lower class leaderboards.

I like modified cars, so I cannot share this sentiment. Stock cars = meh, in my opinion.

I like building up cars for racing as well, but I really appreciate that there are people that want to experience the cars in stock form as I feel it gives the manufacturers more incentive to want to have their cars featured in the game.

As far as running stock cars against other stock cars goes, there are a lot of showcases that let you do that.

Although the modern muscle one pitting a base 5.0 GT, new Z28, and Hellcat against one another at Laguna Seca is kind of comical in it’s lack of real decision on which of those cars to pick when you go run it.
