Car Audio in FM behind the scenes update | AMA transcript added Nov. 22

Does the Superfast really sound like that IRL? In game compared to the F12tdf and LaFerrari it sounds muffled in chase view and ugly at high RPMs. (That said I think the other two Ferraris they updated sound amazing.)

I completely get where you’re coming from. I don’t like how “tiny” and high-pitched the Superfast sounds in chase cam, it’s got way too much pitch and treble, almost makes my ears hurt. The F12 and LaF though sound really, really good.

In the “in the garage” stream, I think it was Nick who said that the equipment can’t faithfully capture the actual crazy amount of decibels some of these cars kick out so they have to make compromises and whatnot. These V12 Ferraris are fiercely loud IRL and I can understand where Nick is coming from but then look at the work Echo 19 or Sim Acoustics have done when capturing fighter jet engine sounds for Flight Simulator 2020, those are properly Earth-shattering loud that will make your ears bleed, shake up your couch, and punch you through the chest.

So, coming back to the updated sounds and especially the 812, yeah it’s not the best, it sounds fiercer and more visceral IRL, but I can understand that accurately capturing these nuances through a mic can be a complex ordeal. T10 do not have the budget like they used to for FM4, 5, and 6, so we are seeing that in the car sounds for sure.

With that out of the way, I would argue the Supra RZ, LFA, and Exorcist sound so stunningly real - maybe the Ferraris are not getting the same “VIP” treatment, at least not yet anyway.

I hope they continue to improve the V12s and V8s in the game - at present, the modern Ferraris, Porches, and McLarens are my biggest complaint - they are quite far off from the beautiful, soul-pleasing, and intoxicating symphonies they produce in real life.

In the next update, I really want to see the Porsches and McLarens getting some attention (they’ve all been reported, with most of them bug logged), and also improvement to cockpit sounds for:

  • LaFerrari
  • 812
  • P1
  • P1 GTR (both the P1s lack off-throttle sound character/motor rumble and turbo BOV effect)
  • All the modern Fords with really quiet and “faraway” weak cockpit sounds

Complete overhaul/update to:

  • FXX-K and FXX-K Evo
  • 599XX and 599XX Evo
  • Monza SP
  • Enzo
  • F430
  • 360 Modena
  • 458 and 458 S
  • F40
  • Cinque Roadster
  • 918
  • Modern 911 GT3 and GT2 road cars, as well as the other 911s (modern day only)
  • R35, both versions

@ManteoMax I’ve updated the above list so tagging you, just in case. Please don’t mind!

There’s just too many to list, but these are the really desirable ones, at least it would be nice to see these updated first sometime in the next year, early please, thank you!

The Aussie cars would’ve been pretty easy if that’s the case because at Murray’s Corner (final turn at Bathurst) you have the National Motor Racing Museum and they have plenty of cars. Plus you have the longest straight in Australia to do the testing. It would require them closing the road from Forest Elbow down to The Chase or at the very least restricting access but it would be easy enough to do.

Extremely disappointed that the bad cockpit sounds for the reported cars are not being addressed and that some of the cars being improved are still off.

Surely, Mike and Nick can’t be happy with this quality and standard of work …?
