Wrong. Some of the HE cars are very competitive. 3 that come to mind are the Dodge Dart, Ford Focus and the Chevy Chevelle. Many cars can be made to be competitive in some form or other. Mainly depends on build and being sensible in which class you upgrade chosen vehicle to.
As for the quoted post claiming to average 1st in online races, I find it slightly difficult to believe based on the vehicles you’ve stated that you use to get these ‘1st places’. These cars can be great in certain classes, just not particularly the ones as stated above. These sort of posts and claims can be very misleading to those genuinely looking for help and advice.
Usually upgrading a car that is average works for me. I decided to buy the Renault Clio Williams and was able to upgrade it to class A. Works amazingly. It just depends on what “average” cars you want the most and are willing to upgrade.
I almost never use other people’s tunes. What I like to do is build and race cars that few others even try to use. I don’t always win, but when I do, I know it is because of my own tuning and racing skills. Some examples…
I have an s1 class Subaru Brat (I like the aussie name for it better, the Brumby) that just kills in offroad and mixed surface races. It’s not the fastest car out there, but it is well balanced, easy to control in a slide, and it always lands on it’s wheels no matter what i do to it.
One of my bast handling cars is the Holden #22 VF Commodore, s2 class. Again, not the fastest car, but it drives like it is on rails. I can take corners at high speed while everyone else is sliding off into the bush.
My s1 tuned Honda S800 is probably one of the smallest and most overlooked cars in the game, but I can hit 222.3 mph with it at the airport. I can’t even begin to compete with the v12 swapped darts, or any of the more popular faster cars, but i do manage to surprise most people I race against with it, and I often win.
I also have an s1 tuned Fiat 124 Spyder that is just incredible on almost every track I run it on. Like usual, not the fastest car, but I run it AWD on rally suspension and tires, and it is so easy to drift around corners and stay in control even on bumpy surfaces. Ken Block would approve. …oh yea, and it’s a cute car.
The more you play the game and drive different cars you get a feel for their capabilities, just try out some popular cars and stick a few tune setups on them.
