A 6-Year Hiatus for This? I’m Going Back to FM7

That puddle on the apex of the high speed left hander at Sebring was an abomination but! Total lottery.

Puddles were a great concept but their effects were too strong!

But loved it generally. The way they forced you to change your lines and take different risks was really cool.

correct me if I’m wrong here, but does anyone else feel the lighting and feel of the game is off, it’s very fake and saturated to me, FM7 and FH5 look more natural, wheels to me look plasticky and reflections can look off too on cars etc. I go back to FM7 and to me it looks more natural and I’m playing FH5 right now and it looks more natural, sure FM23 can look great with some lighting and at night looks pretty good. Also raced around Hakone in the wet the track looked really shiny :frowning: it just looked off, (I’m on Series X performance mode) also had my fuel tell me I had 1100 in it then it dropped to 400 something then settled on 12 laps lol. Gaming is so frustrating because they come out broken or inferior to a past entry then a year from now it will be somewhat, Improved. Why not release the game when its ready and full of content.

So am I wrong with how I think about the lighting and feel, Sorry if I am wrong.

I’m in agreement that something is wrong with the lighting model or maybe even the graphics engine in general. To me, there looks like a haze or matte look to entities in the world much of the time.

FM4 was my first Forza game and I absolutely loved it. It’s still my favorite FM game. Enjoyed both single player and MP.

I skipped FM5 and stayed on FM4 until a week before the launch of FM6. I used FM5 to get a feel for FM6. FM6 was an excellent improvement over FM5, but still retained a lobby bug where if a person dropped, it could lock up the entire lobby. Don’t think that ever got fixed. The track selection was a little sparse. FM6 also had a bug for a while where it would just drop you mid race. Took a few weeks for them to fix that. The MP menu was excellent. Extremely responsive when flipping through cars before the next race.

FM7 had a rocky launch that made the early access useless for me. I refunded that version and got the normal version on launch day. It was(and still is) plagued with a terribly laggy car menu between MP races. They did manage to fix the lobby bug with folks locking up the lobby. I’ve got other grievances with FM7, but won’t beat a dead horse with it or this latest game.

Things dont have to be new to be innovative or creative. Thats my issue with forza, they can take something from another game and make it better but they dont do that. Most features in racing games are shared with little tweaks here or there, thats a good thing as eventually one of them creates a standard. Forza takes too long to implement these things nevermind often times being below the standard.

With this game their innovative addition was adding ray tracing, but its not really done properly. It was a waste of time as it adds nothing and has taken likley 100s of hours of work away from making the game actually look next gen. Theres a reason why no other racing games do it, its a waste of processing power that could be used for everything else. They put ray traced reflections in yet the rearview mirror looks like its runnig on sega saturn, its stupid.

Good writers borrow, great writers steal. ← innovation in a nutshell.

Since they took the development/RPG mechanics from F1 - how about stealing some other things?

  • A “my story”, where you start as a young buck racing some small circuits, sign with a team, and work your way up through the divisions. All with cutscenes, dialogs, a jerk for a rival, etc…

  • A “my team”, where you put together your own motorsports team using your limited resources - essentially buying access to tracks and divisions.

There’s a whole world of innovating things they could have done.

That’s a good point!

You’ve hit everything spot on with the release of this game.
I was really disappointed after buying the Nissan Pulsar GTi-R which I’ve owned in real life only to find that the details of the car are no where near as great as FH5.

I will also add to your list about racing with a steering wheel and pedals that the clutch work required to get a stock car off the line is ridiculous. There’s no difference between a stock clutch and a racing (6 puck) clutch.

I wouldn’t read a post that long even if a loved one wrote it, There is no way you can dislike this game that much.

The track locations may be rendered better but FM7 has over 50% more of them than this game’s 20 at 33, 32 if you discard the useless + barely ever used test track airfield, and like I said further up this thread there are more than 15 variants missing amongst the 20 that are present that were once available previously.

Also as bored as I got of it in the XB1 era FM’s I can’t believe Sebring along with Road Atlanta aren’t here at launch, 2 FM staples.

I’ve been through it with FH4 + FH5, getting on a metaphorical train that takes 1-2 years to reach where it should have been in the first place, I just don’t think I have it in me to let myself be taken on that ride yet again.

I can relate to everybody’s frustrations. It feels incomplete and I don’t think the 6-year development time is true. Proably 1.5-2 years at best from the state of it.

What angers me though is when people try to draw their attention to wrong car sounds or lacklustre sound modelling, they expect us to create a seperate thread for every single car?

What were T10 thinking? They think we’re all beta testers, creating dozens and dozens of threads because there are literally dozens of wrong sounds in the game across multiple manufacturers!

What a terrible attitude. I think this was the last T10 product. The line has to be drawn somewhere.

If the product is unfinished, you DO NOT release it until it’s finished!!!

Nup. I would still prefer 20 laser scanned and fully dynamic tracks than 50 of FM7’s quality.

People keep trying to compare those raw numbers but they’re not the same thing at all.

If you care about the racing feeling realistic there just is no substitute.

I’m personally happy to wait for the other tracks to come out in the coming months so they all get the same treatment.

When we’re talking about innovation the only thing they innovated in was blind assists. Everything else they talked about was the new physics, “built not bought carpg stuff, FRR, ray tracing, and 24 hour fully dynamic weather/time of day on all tracks. From the interviews it’s clear that inclusion and making players love only a few cars instead of collecting was the goal. (Ironically they lowered the prices which contradicts this system lol)

Thankfully the physics are good but the little things took a back seat.

Doesnt matter much the detail quality in this game when on Series X there is little to no Anisotropic Filtring, Image quality wise FM7 looks better.

Agreed. And this was the goal because hamster-wheel game mechanics are cheap. Instead of spending the money to license and update new cars/tracks and give us the features that we’ve been asking for over the past 10 years (radar), spend it on misleading, flashy marketing trailers and create mobile-style game mechanics to hopefully keep players engaged and sub’d to gamepass.

Thank you. You expressed 90% of what I feel with the game. I came from others race games, was expecting a lot about the Forza and no. The physic sucks in some cars (for example the civic type R). Everytime it is raining in multiplayer race (ok, its nice one time or another. but not everytime). For sure I run more raining races than sun races in multiplayer. And the game crashs a lot to me. I got stuck in the loading scene, the car stop to acelerate. Its painful.

Neither laser-scanned nor fully dynamic, the assets are simply copied and pasted from FM7, with significantly downgraded details and graphics.

I’ll take physics over graphics any day.

I’m no graphics nerd but I’m happy with how the new game looks.

You can be as cynical as you like but that’s simply wrong.

Forza Motorsport 2023

Forza Motorsport 5

Build from the ground up

And both are from Xbox series x. So no PC lowest setting shenanigans. Im currently installing Forza 6 and will compare it with that version too

I’m sorry… but you can’t see how much better 2023 looks? I really believe that some people just like baked lighting. I but I could play 2- 10 sec clips with RT on and off and most will get it wrong…
