Inclusiveness is fine, one of Forza’s best qualities. There just needs to be a way to have players of wildly different skill levels enjoy themselves in Public Multiplayer races as right now there isn’t.
Although I have wishlisted a few suggestions I don’t know the right one, none of us do without access to the data and feedback that Turn 10 have. Maybe Custom Public Lobbies is the way forward, maybe more aggressive matchmaking filters, maybe an in-game rating and penalty system, maybe all 3 and more.
Whatever the solution is I hope Turn 10 at least do something significant about the state of Public Multiplayer racing as right now it is just not fun for players above a certain skill/maturity level and the number of high quality alternate racing titles available this year is higher than I can ever remember. Some people will jump ship, and it’s up to Turn 10 to either keep them on board or let them walk the plank.
No offense PJ but you are one of the best drivers this game has. You’ve raced against the best in on site events even. Why even bother with public multiplayer? There are tons of private leagues and clubs to drive with. I drive with a group called Evercool Racing. I’m not fast at all but I like clean racing and these guys are very good. Check out evercoolracing.com. We have a modern GT event tonight at 7 eastern and I’m sure they would welcome you in. If you see me on, send a message.
The reason I prefer Hopper races these days is a simple one: I’m not as young as I used to be.
A few years ago I competed in all sorts of private racing leagues, against the likes of F4H, CQR, VVV and so-on. It was a lot of fun but also required a lot of dedication as I would spend many days running hotlaps, tuning cars, talking to teammates etc.
These days I am very busy with my day-job and when I get home all I want to do is pick up the controller, hop into whatever car I like and race against a constant stream of new and random opponents. I am fast and experienced enough to avoid getting hit by the majority of amateur opponents or deliberate crashers but I would like to be in a situation where I can hop on at any time and not have to deal with those issues in the first place.
I keep pushing on these forums for changes to the Public Multiplayer racing structure because I know it can be done. Forza Motorsport 4’s Custom Public Lobbies were full of “clean racing rooms” where unsportsmanlike people didn’t last long, Gran Turismo 6 made use of several features to ensure that racing was as clean as possible and Polyphony’s upcoming title is moving even further in this direction.
I firmly believe that Forza’s car/track selection, handling model, customisation and community options are the best out there in terms of enjoyment. If a clean Public Multiplayer racing environment was another core feature it would be the perfect racing franchise. It is because the series is so close to perfection that I am so invested in the idea of cleaning up Public Multiplayer racing. Forza Motorsport 4 almost got it right, and that’s the direction I would like to see things go in future.
Pubblic hoppers in its current form - race anything against anything dosnt work and I doubt it ever has. But the short sharp fix they provide with minimal preperation is defineatly needed. Racing in orginised events is time consuming and is not In my opinion an alternative to switching ur xbox on and having a few races in any given class or car.
Something needs to be done for forza 7 like pj has already said, personally I think match making is the key here followed up by community voted leagues and division specific hoppers completly scrapping all the pi specific hoppers.
I’m going to wait at least a month after release and see all the game play footage on YouTube before I even think about buying this, the way I see it, if Turn 10 is too incompetent to place tire walls on tracks that have been notorious for corner cutting ( IE; Sebring, Le Mans - Bugatti) while “fixing” tracks that were fine to begin with and be so out of contact with it’s own player base that they allow a semi truck in the online hoppers only to ban it that same day and fail to fix bugs since release day ( such as losing communication with other players randomly) … then there is no chance in hell they can improve.
I still plan on buying FM7, because I still enjoy FM thru FM6.
I will agree that there are significant issues that need to be addressed when it comes to multiplayer, but the career, tuning and painting are still the best in my opinion.
I used to argue against CPL’s, because I saw way too much bullying when it was an option. If you weren’t part of a clique, you often got booted. I saw people booted who wanted to learn, but nobody wanted to take the time to help them. Thankfully, I found a few folks who helped me learn. But, the increase in greifers has changed my mind. Some kind of control has to be given to the players, so they can control their enjoyment in multiplayer.
I’m still a die hard Forza fan. I’ve tried several of the other titles and they just leave me baffled. Maybe they are best played with a racing wheel? I know I couldn’t get a decent handling car in any of them and the paint options were horrible.
I hope some serious thought is going into multiplayer. Penalties, like in FM2 would help a lot, and CPL’s are a must.
I think that Turn 10, while attempting to reach a broader market, has actually narrowed the base and pushed away some of its most loyal fans. If they can’t see that, nothing we say in here will open their eyes.
Yeah? No. If reviewers who get early access to the game say there isn’t a full penalty system for wreckers + corner cutters and if force feedback still sucks with wheels like the Logitech G920, I will certainly not buy the next title.
What, you don’t believe me? It’s not like Forza is the only title out there. We got Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, Dirt Rally…and I’m also on PS4 so I will definitely buy GT Sport (I’m playing the closed beta right now).
I am just undecided, hence why I said that I am “on the fence”. I have played Forza since the very first game, I have seen it get better and worse over time. The 2 issues for me are the current state of multiplayer, and the poor excuse for force feedback with regards to racing wheels. Everything else I like, but those 2 issues really make it hard to want to play Forza, especially when I can boot up assetto corsa or iracing on my pc.
Sure FM has pretty graphics and sounds now a days but it’s pretty stagnant when it comes to gameplay, they are still doing the same stuff that was done 10 years ago. If FM7 is more of the same that we’ve seen on this generation of consoles then I will not be buying it. I’m not asking for a pure sim racing game but all I want is a more authentic racing experience with more depth, not a disposable & dumbed-down arcade racer.
Say what you want about SMS/P Cars, but they did a lot of things right that T10 should be implementing into their own games. The handling and controller setups is not nearly as bad as some make it out to be either.
Simple things like letting paint layers stretch over from the side to the front bumper or the top to get continuous lines to complicated things like revamping tuning settings and upgrade paths to be wider and more encompassing.
Graphics are always at the forefront of Turn10s design philosophy which is unfortunate because a polished poo is still a turd. I’m not saying forza games are bad I’m just using a southern colloquialism to explain a situation. I still enjoy the games but the cut and paste of game features and the lack of improvement post release wears thin very quickly.
If I turned in a dissertation every two years that featured 75% of the exact same content as previous versions with a super slick illustrated cover I would be flunked or expelled after the second dissertation for at worst plagiarism and at least lack of creativity.
Turn10 does not need to reinvent the wheel here they just need to redirect 30% of the focus they put on the visual polish to game features and structure. If they could pull that off, I don’t know what I would do. It’s been so long since I’ve felt like Turn10 focused on their gameplay first, graphics second.
The extreme emphasis on looks is exactly what I worry about with 7. 5 felt like they were trying to show off the xbox one and forgot a lot of other things. Now with 7 and Scorpio they are much the eye for that system. They need to show off the power and it could be 5 all over again.
I really hope that’s not the case, but it’s definitely a worry.
Another constructive comment from a valued member of the community. Is it any wonder why t10 don’t listen to us when it’s own community can’t stop digging at each other
I do not believe in this “shut up and deal with it” mentality of yours.
Also isn’t complaining about others complaining still complaining? I have a right to voice my opinion on these forums and you know what, right now my opinion is not a shining light of joy.
This game should be so much more than it is. We are currently playing forza 6 yet the menus, upgrades, rims, tuning, PI system, leaderboards, online glitches are virtually unchanged from as early as Forza 3. In fact we have less features in the last two versions than any Forza released on Xbox 360. Yet they cost as much or more every time a new game is released. Is that something I am supposed to be ok with?
I don’t own a PlayStation, I don’t care for driving race cars, and I don’t have the cash to invest in a steering wheel rig, so my most logical outlet for a sim racer is still Forza. And until some of my concerns are addressed I will continue to voice them.
Calling us crybabies does nothing to advance the series. You can’t tell me that you wouldn’t change anything about forza 6 if you could because it is far from perfect (one example: they never fixed the lobby chat in online mode, they just recommended that we start a party chat and invite other players into it, which no one ever does). There are plenty of obvious examples where the game falls short of expectations.
I would be almost as happy if someone from the development team would acknowledge that they hear us. They say they learn from players every time they release a new version but it’s just a shinier, slightly modified take on the previous version with some features omitted. I can’t think of any players who said they would prefer there to be less content in the game on release.
Feel free to elaborate on this if you’re still around.
All I see in this thread are people who want the series to cater more to their tastes, and are trying to provide constructive criticsm. That being said, the first post and the thread title aren’t the most encouraging even if the comments that follow are a good read.
