I’m sorry if this has been discussed somewhere before, I didn’t find anything related to this issue. Anyway, I’ve had difficulties with driving with more powerful cars and without traction control. Yesterday I started properly investigating the issue, and I found out that my Xbox 360 controller’s Z-axle’s (which is the triggers) minimum and maximum input points are almost exactly at the physical halfway point when pressing the triggers down, which of course makes me have full brakes and full throttle when pressing the triggers only halfway down, which again makes controlling faster and especially rear-wheel-drive cars more difficult, almost impossible for my skills. It hasn’t really anything to do with the game sensitivities because it happens in the Windows’ calibration settings. I’ve tried the so called “0-100” deadzone settings which I like, or course it doesn’t help that much when the physical range of the triggers is so small. Somebody said it is controller specific, which probably is true because my older (and hundreds of hours more worn) controller’s trigger travel range is much longer. This controller with worse issue has been used for a couple of dozen hours only, you can even feel the little grip dots the sticks have.
I’d like to know the answer to at least one of these questions: Am I gonna be able to fix the controller and reset the usable trigger range, either opening the controller and cleaning it up or doing something else or could I buy some replacement parts to make it work again? Or should I invest in a new controller and is the Xbox One controller quality any better or are they gonna start malfunctioning after a few dozen hours too? I don’t really know yet which gamepads would be the best for actual driving because everybody just goes on about the shapes of them, nobody seems to care about performance or durability. I don’t want a controller that fits my hands (which they probably won’t anyway because I have quite big hands) that has “analog” triggers or sticks that work like digital ones. Or would I be better off buying a proper wheel? I’d like to have one but I don’t know if I have the space for it and whether it’s worth it, of course I could use it with all the racing games and not just Forza, like with even more realistic ones e.g.
Feel free to recommend proper gamepads for driving games that have the full throttle on while actually pressing the trigger the whole way down, I’d play with keyboard otherwise if the buttons didn’t have the crazy lag (push the arrow key for two seconds to make the car turn similarly than with a 0,2 second flick of the analog stick) and were more sensitive. So, a proper and durable analog gamepad at least, I guess you can’t really go wrong with Logitech or Thrustmaster whether going for a gamepad or a wheel, but mostly I’d like to know if the Xbox One Elite gamepad is worth the price and a clear improvement over the 360 pad. I’ve understood it even has this halfway trigger lock, which could be of use in shooters and whatever but not really in driving games, which is kinda how my 360 pad already works. And the paddles for gears sound cool.
I’d be happiest though to continue using my 360 controllers because otherwise they are pretty nice, but if they are FUBAR I have to sadly purchase some new cool gear, can’t really help it. Thank you a lot for your time!
