Would you still purchase it?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ this, basically. Giving another example, I play Fallout 4, which can drop to 0 - yes, zero - FPS. What does that look like? The game is frozen. The sounds are still playing, your console is still running, it just looks like the game froze and you can’t move anywhere or do anything. It resumes in a second or two, but it’s obviously quite noticeable. Also around the downtown Boston area (the game takes place in Massachusetts year 2287), depending on what’s going on in the surroundings, and more recently, what mods you have installed, the game will stutter quite a bit because the FPS drops.

There were some FPS improvements with some updates early on in the game’s cycle. I haven’t even played it yet, so I can’t say from personal experience, but I do remember readings many people’s stories. It’s probably improved quite a bit now; I doubt there would be none but it might be on a much smaller scale (perhaps no more than 5 FPS loss) now as opposed to around launch day. If it were to occur on such a small scale, that would explain why you haven’t really experienced it, you just haven’t noticed it (or there no longer is one, again, I haven’t played it yet). As far as your firmware question goes, I’m far from the person to ask about that, so I’ll just say maybe

Having all the settings maxed like im2fast4u711 suggests might make it noticeable. I’ll certainly give that a try when I finally get into the game.

I dont play pcars much anymore and if i do its usally just to hot lap. I can say when i did play everyday, i did notice frame drops. This happened with over 30 cars on the track, rainy weather made it worse and some tracks were better than others. You wont ever notice if the fps goes up or down a few frames, but once you start talking about double digits which can happen in certain instances it is noticeable. You can most likely force it to happen if youd like to see if it does it anymore by maxing out ai drivers, and set weather and tume of day to a multiploed time scale. Id be willing to bet that even if you had no opponents and time of day change, that just having it change from clear to lightly cloudy to heavy clouds would effect the frames. A way to check this because i doubt it would seem noticeable, but your lap times will be inconsistent. I remember on their forums someone brought this up because the timer will run like normal and not account for the skipped frames.

After all you guys have said, I think I’m either going to get PCARS or wait for Assetto Corsa. Most likely will be getting PCARS, since I’d like to play something now and don’t really see the point in paying twice as much for Assetto Corsa.
I am wondering though: I’ve read alot about the game being very glitchy and buggy when it was released. The official website states the GOTY includes “500+ features and improvements that have been added since launch”. Are these just updates that will be applied to the base game as well, might I buy that instead of the GOTY?

Bit of a useless reply, but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone putting in the effort to explain things and answer questions. Didn’t expect so many, in-depth replies.
I’m getting down to a point where I’m almost certain of my decision. You are all providing great support!

let us know what yiu think of PC and the weather. I see assetto Corsa, as the next thing Ill try., whenever it comes out. I sure hope they are not delaying it to get weather effects in.

If I get it tomorrow I will only be able to play it until tuesday noon, I’ll be gone for 2,5 weeks after that. But I will definitely let you know my thoughts on it.

I would like to have one last thing answered. Already asked it but in case no one saw/sees it:
I’ve read alot about the game being very glitchy and buggy when it was released. The official website states the GOTY includes “500+ features and improvements that have been added since launch”. They should have been, yes. After all, the updates and stuff came out before the GOTY edition did. There are still 10 free cars for you, so even if you don’t get the GOTY edition, you will still have a bit more to use. I don’t know if the livery packs were free or not. I believe all the DLC is sold separately too, at least from looking at it on my Xbox it is. You could bundle it all with the “On Demand Pack”, which is like the Season Pass in largely every other game. That is $30, so sadly, the same price as the game itself. If you’re really looking for all the content, I’d get the GOTY edition if you can, but take a look at some of the DLC. If for more of them than not you find yourself saying “meh”, it’d be better to get the standard edition and DLC of choice.

The free cars, in case you’re wondering, are:
-W Motors Lykan Hypersport
-Audi A1 quattro
-RUF RT 12 R
-Mercedes-Benz 300 SL (W194)
-Scion FR-S
-Lotus Type 49C Cosworth
-Radical RXC Turbo
-Ford FG Falcon V8 Supercar
-Aston Martin Vantage GT12
-Mercedes-AMG GT3

Perhaps, not wanting to steer you off course, do you have an Xbox 360? You could get an older 360 game, like one of the F1 games or GRID Autosport or something. Those should probably be the same price if not cheaper.

Fun fact: Searching Project Cars in the search games section of the Xbox Dashboard games store, the last item shown is the FM6 Top Gear Car Pack. Heh.

Provided you have time to return the game (Return within 7 days or something), you can think about it for a bit.

Sounds like a bigger mess than the forza dlc etc. dis they say how and when they are going to release the porsche dlc?

Definitely get the GOTY edition! There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to get the base version if you start from scratch! GOTY includes the standard game (+ limited edition version with modified car pack) and all DLCs, free cars, extra tracks, community liveries and so on, so you’re not missing out on anything.

If you start out with the singleplayer zero to hero career, don’t let the weird starter kart handling throw you off (like it did with me in 2015 :p), normal cars and race cars drive a lot better than the starter kart (the more powerful superkart is much better too).

For more questions best to visit the official forums : http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/forumdisplay.php?127-Project-CARS-on-Xbox-One What’s also incredibly pleasing to see is the story behind the DLC cars and how the devs worked on that getting info from the manufacturers etc. Really fun to read and what a huge difference with the lack of communication we get from T10. There is a post on their forums where someone linked all these posts from all DLCs but I can’t find it right now.

Ooh and even though I liked the FH3 trailer and music used in it a LOT, nothing beats the Bannochbrae trailer and music for the StanceWorks expansion trailer. Of course all that included in the GOTY edition too. Best racing game DLC trailer ever made IMO, enjoy!:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1WbupiVTwU

Yeah, well, thing is: I actually already bought Forza Motorsport 6 before I started this thread. I didn’t unpack it in case I wanted to return it, which I’d like to do now. The bad thing is, I just read the receipt and it says they won’t return the money but give me a coupon … That wouldn’t be a problem if they sell the GOTY, but it’s not listed on their website nor did I see it in the store today. That’s why I asked.
I did find another store that is selling the GOTY, but buying it there would mean losing my 30 bucks I spend today and having to spend another 45 on the GOTY in the other store. That definitely sucks.

You know theres a forza 6 demo right? You can use the wheel and it gives you a few cars to test out to see if you like it or not. If you dont you could use the coupon to preorder assetto corsa and play it when you get back. If you’re leaving on tuesday your not gonna have much time to play anything anyway. Pcars isnt exactly a game you just pop in and play expecially if you have a wheel. Theres many settings you have to tweak to get it to feel right. Good luck to you hope it all works out.

If you learn to race with manual/clutch and no ABS, it’s the best money you’ll ever spend. As flashy as FH3 is, it will not come close to the fun of FM6. Partially because of the nuanced feel of the cars and mostly because 30fps animation is not enough for a racing game. Your car jumps from 5 car lengths behind, to hitting the car in front within like 2 frames. Even FM2, 3, and 4 were all 60fps. Deal breaker!

Anyway, FM6 is the best out there, miles ahead of FM5. But, the car packs could’ve been so much more exciting and had cars with more replay value.

I’ve played every installment of the Forza franchise and I’ve owned every Forza game from Forza 2 to Forza 6 including the Horizon spin-offs. I love Forza 6 and if you can pick it up for €30 then I would definitely say yes buy it. I have invested a lot in a TX wheel and Playseat Evolution. The game feels nice on a wheel (very similar to Forza 4). Yes there is no Dynamic weather but the rain and night is the best feeling I’ve ever played in any racing game. The game runs at 1080p at 60fps which I have never noticed drop once for me. Graphics are fantastic and overall the game has a lot of content, the most out of any racing game. No qualification system and pit crew bugs me as well and also no FOV or POV is very annoying. The career is also not the greatest either and the AI well there funky at the best of times. But as value for money and enjoyment goes Forza 6 is the best game I’ve played. It has a good track list, a huge selection of cars, I quite liked the DLC (a lot of people didn’t), there’s two expansion packs, more content updates coming in the future, nice physics, the showcases are good, forzavista, good online options in private matches (don’t do hoppers those are hell, leagues are good… the list really goes on. I’ve played Project Cars and it was ok at best. The physics were really nice but the odd car felt really awkward and just wrong and it felt like the car was impossible to save, there were so many bugs that in the end made me stop playing it, there’s not a huge selection of cars, graphics don’t look as good in my opinion, the framerate would drop especially in the rain and there generally wasn’t enough content to keep me interested. Assetto Corsa is a good game. The physics are the best I’ve ever played but there’s no rain or night, not a huge selection of cars, not that many tracks, the graphics are ok and the one thing that really kept the game alive were mods but I don’t think there coming to the console. I do give Assetto it’s due though it’s a very stable game but obviously it costs more than Forza 6 and Project Cars.

In the end Forza 6 is the best value for money and for me the one to buy but It has it’s downfalls and it can get super frustrating at times (Especially the career mode).

Steve, like the guys like Brezhnev have pointed out do clearly, the ultimate descion to buy a game lays solely in your lap, or hands as it were. And as I’ve said many times, and like those who’ve have rightly pointed out, games like Forza Motorsports and Horizons are designed primarily for the controller.

Thet being the case, I’d get yourself a great controller, namely the great very customisable Elite Controller. Xbox and thus MS do have the great Customisable Xbox One Controller ability where you can literally design EVERY aspect of your controller. From combined colours, button custom mapping, but they don’t upgrade it to the level that the a Elite has.

My son has a decent cockpit setup in his loungeroom, yes, he doesn’t have a partner -at the moment lol, and has used it as his primary means of playing both Xbox and PlayStation racing games. He’s mastered it a great deal, and can definitely out do me in an even based race in co-op and he can lay down a very decent got lap on most cars and tracks.

But I gave him the a Elite to use for a fortnight to see how he managed and to get his honest feedback. I figured he’d stay with the wheel, seeing that he’d basically grown up with one permenantly glued to his hands.

So, to say I was amazed when he asked me to get him one, as he found that on Forza, both Motorsport and Horizon. He said he had not only more control over the cars, after a period of becoming accustomed to the highly sensitive thumbsticks and triggers, and the oddity of the brakes not doing their job like they could with the pedal setup.

But he was set on having a controller to play Forza, it gave him more ‘fun’ and also more control on his cars, his times got much better, and so did his racing lines. Now before someone says something g along the lines of - he’s just a boy and just plays with a wheel set up. He actually is 39 and has been driving for a Liv g for well over 20 years. He drives in Sydney traffic every day, often covering over 350-450 kilometres per day 6 days a week.

We both have dabbled in PCars and the Coddies F1 series, the Supercars series and cut our teeth on the Colin McCray (Dirt) series. And without a doubt, if you just want to have some basic fun, then Forza Motorsports will give you the semi-racing fun, while Horizons will give you the full arcade type of racing fun.

No one can make the choic for you. We can only give you hints, some feedback on how WE have experienced the game/s. In the end, it’s your choice. You have to make up your mind as to what STYLE of racing you want. Do you want full on true sim-racing? Do you want an arcade game that plays very little to true physics of how cars handle, perform, and even look smart with pretty colours all over them, yet don’t represent proper racing teams.

It’d be nice if you could experience a melding of the two, which I believe Forza Motorsports dies in spades. While Horizon offers the best I. Really nice looking arcade racing gaming.

Of true sim-racing is your bag, then PCars, iRacing, Asserto, etc are where you need to park your daily sedan. There’s really no middle ground. You must make the choice, you must deal with the choice and the results of your choice.

We ALL will support whatever choice you make mate. And I’m sure there will be many who’ll want to test your skills around the various tracks. Be it here in Forza Motorsports or on any of the other ts I got games. As in the end, we all have one thing in common. The love of really enjoying virtual racing.

In the end, that’s teally all we all want. The ability to have fun. And share that Ruth our family and friends, be they real life friends or digital ones such as those giving you great feedback in this thread.

The thread has been a great positive thread thus far, mainly due to the fact most kids Re on holidays and running amuck elsewhere lol…or just making life miserable for their parents… Hehehe

Stick us on your friends list, hit us up if you want a simple enjoyable race, as that’s the only wSy you’ll get a fair, honest and clean race I any online racing game. Gris your friends list, keep in contact with them, keep them on the right ride of road and just enjoy having fun.

And like xJonxMonx56 directly above said, grab an xbox360 (I always have mine set up,to run whenever needed.) and definitely grab GRiD, GRiD Autosports, GRiD 2, even a copy of the various Supercars and Rally games that came on the 360, as those games will show you what some serious racing could be like, plus give you a whole lot of fun.

Yes, they might be console racers, so they aren’t REAL as dome will say, but they do give you a taste of what could be included in the next iteration of Forza Motorsports. But as I’ve said several times already, I think we’re in for something different when the next iteration lands sometimes e Kate 2017… (My thoughts only btw)…

As you seemed to like FM2-4, I’d say get it. I was underwhelmed by FM5, and thought the previous titles (FM4 definitely) had lots to recommend over it, it generally just seems like it was a bit rushed (understandably, to be a release title) compared to previous versions. The graphics were easily the best, but that and full Forzavista (or whatever the term was) seemed the priority over gameplay. FM6 is a great return to form, and personally I prefer the consistency given in dry racing for computer games so don’t mind limited weather options.

PCars had multiple issues at launch and I know a lot of people returned to FM quickly, BUT I’ve not yet played it so can’t comment, the reviews above seem very favourable and will push me to give it a look when I get time. If you want the dynamic weather it seems that might push you away from FM, but as I said at the start, you seemed to get a lot from FM2-4, and I think FM6 was a great return to form. FH2 on XBone could be another option for you as I enjoyed that for a year or so, and might get you prepared for FH3 better.

Once again, thank you all for replying and making this easier step by step!

@im2fast4u711:
I know there is a demo, which I played already. I got used to playing Forza Motorsport in the past which is why I thought it would be a good choice to go with Forza Motorsport 6. It was only €30, which made the choice fairly easy. Though when I got home, I was in doubt whether I made the best choice. That’s when I started the thread and I’m glad I did.

@xJonxMonx56:
I do not own the Xbox 360 anymore, but in all honesty, there were few proper racing games at the end of it’s cycle. I’ve owned Forza’s, Need for Speeds, F1, played GRID. The one that always felt best was Forza.

@XboxOZ360:
I know it’s my decision, but I asked for some help along the road. I wanted to compare some games, know there pros and cons and without the help of everyone in here I don’t think I would ever have gotten such a clear image. The fact, as you’re clearly pointing out, that Forza titles are designed mostly for use with a controller put me off this time. I do not mind using a wheel when Forza Horizon 3 drops, even when it’s performance would be less compared to a controller. It’s an arcade game, in which I’d just like to have fun, cruise, race, tune and paint. I wouldn’t mind being a little bit slower, not setting the fastest lap times, as that’s not what that game is about to me. When I’m buying a sim racing game though, that’s what you’ll be doing most of the time. Focussing on the optimal driving lines, find the best tweak for your car, trying to beat your own and other’s lap times over and over. It’s a completely different type of racing in fact.
I do already own the Elite controller, since I bought the entire Elite package. I haven’t tried tweaking the controller, since I have never done so before and don’t want to mess things up. I do use the extra paddles and I think they offer great advantages. In racing games they could be used to create easier accessible clutch and shifter buttons for example. But now that I bought the wheel, I will mainly just be using that with racing games. I did not spend all that many for just one game ;p

As I mentioned, I’m very grateful for all the nice and elaborated responses. Everyone’s been of great help and I would definitely team up with anyone who’s in for that. Be it in Forza Horizon 3 in september, or in Project Cars.

Yes, I went with Project Cars. I went back to the store yesterday afternoon and traded it for the Project Cars GOTY. So far I’m glad I did.
I did not have much time to fool around and only tried a handful of cars in some quick races before I started looking at the hundreds of options, half of which I don’t understand (if anyone’s in here is up for helping me out when I get back in 2,5 weeks, that would also be greatly appreciated!)
So far it already feels great with the wheel. I do agree the graphics could’ve been a bit better, but I’ve mainly been using the Helmet Cam View, in which everything looks perfectly fine and thrilling.
After reading all of your posts, I decided to go with Project Cars, as it’s more sim oriented and offers better support for the wheels. Something I was looking for right now. The better structured career, dynamic weather and helmet cam view add up to that. I’ll get to play with all the cars, the painting and enjoy the better graphics from Forza when Horizon 3 drops. I’m glad with the decision I made now and once again want to say thank you all for the great responses.

If anyone is interested in some online multiplayer, I’m always up for that. Feel free to add me, PM me, whatever suits you.
Now, onto understanding the hundreds of options on Project Cars to make it superb …

Good choice! Thumbs up! Steve when you get back from your holidays send me a PM, I got some good links to ffb tweaking settings, both general and per car. Also better to talk about the game on the PCARS forums than here, you’ll get more asnwers to your questions there too. My nickname on the PCARS forums is breyzipp as well.

And about those graphics, yes in Forza they are overall better, but in PCARS they feel much more realistic. Especially the lighting in PCARS is way better than in Forza 6 and as you already noticed, the helmet camera is awesome. But there is more, take for example the cars driving over wet tarmac, in PCARS the water splashing up and the trail of both wheels look soo much better than Forza’s simplistic grey cloud around the car.
