Worst Level System Ever - Environmental Shame

FM 2023 is a shame…, an environmental shame.

The new XP system is so tedious and annoying that a lot of players prefer to use disablilty settings to AFK-farm car XP, often enough without even reduciung graphics settings beforehand (or without being able to do that, e.g. XBOX).

Ridiculous you think? Thought so too, till I saw my mate’s playtime:
22d3h… or 531h of RTX ultrawidescreen playtime (3440x1440), and estimated 5-10% actual non-afk play. Probably 400-500W per hour average. If the electricity bill came monthly, his girlfriend would probably smash his PC :hammer: right away and him along :stuck_out_tongue:

STOP THIS MADNESS (not by disabling the disability options!) and boost XP to 400%.

At least he can set the heater to a lower grade when “playing”.

I sort of understand the AFK needs (I don’t AFK as I want to play the game) but as you point out the environmental impact is not really considered.

There’s plenty of people doing 7-10 hour AFK flights on MS Flight Simulator where they are out at work as well.

Crazy

Never understood that one, do they do it for flight hours? Some achievement? FS2020 is such a beautiful and well-cared game, even when using the autopilot, I usually go afk only for a snack or drink. With small planes there’s enough to watch over: clouds, wind, terrain, engine heat, fuel consumption, mixture, temperature. It’s the last game I’d use as glorified screensaver.

Back to FM2023, the saddest part about the Car XP system: it messes up MP for me. In former Forza titles, casual but skilled players could keep up by copying succesful drivers. Get the same car and tuning and voilà: instant fighting chance. Now you first have to level a car for 1-2h to unlock the necessary parts.

I’ve been saying this for weeks now. A lot of people should be getting their first electric bills soon to see the effect all this AFK leveling is having. You can’t call yourself a green company and hand people games that encourage this behavior. Just one of the many LEVELS the carpg system is horrible on.

The worst part in this system is that Turn 10 did not think for one moment about players who have little time to devote to video games because of the pace of the life, family life, work and other obligations…

What I mean is that forza is a car racing game, the rhythm is important, it must be fast to chain the races, adjust them to our convenience in order to adapt them to each race and that everyone has a equivalent car, it’s not an rpg where you have to level up each car for hours.

Freeing up a little time to play is already hard for some players, so if it means wasting that time leveling up cars unnecessarily in modes with no interest apart from doing a series of laps against a stupid AI on top of that, it has no interest.

The old system by purchase with credits was entirely viable and suited the majority of players and above all allowed everyone to be able to play immediately with the car of their choice and especially the setting of their choice without wasting time unnecessarily .

Above all, this system allows them to give their game a false consistency and a misleading lifespan to the detriment of the players and the fun.

This should not be a factor in any games design. If the games pacing is bad, then its bad. It doesnt need shortcuts just because people have jobs. This is just bad implementation of a system.

It saddens me that both Turn10 and Microsoft do not care about the environment. If they did care then they would remove car leveling immediately.

what if they would just add a new second career mode option ?
with everything unlocked or a setup like previous games where you buy the parts and bigger credit payouts with races .

It’s terrible really, worse than the consistency: hardly any car feels fun at all and definitely so much worse than its stock version from a dealer, at start. Imagine the BMW dealer informing you that before enjoying all the high tech components of modern cars, you’d have to drive in a far less performant and safe car for a couple of weeks. Sorry, pal -no “Freude am Fahren”, all extras extracted. :exploding_head:

“We exchanged your tire-set for 30 year old tires of one of the previous model iterations. Beware the brakes, they’re a bit worn down and might fail in a crititcal moment, so plan to break way ahead. If you feel that the car feels a bit sluggish in the curves, it is. We added a few extra lead weights, so you can fully enjoy a 1980s driving experience in a badlly maintained car.”

“Oh, you like to drive in competition? Don’t, unless you prefer the lower ranks. For a little extra fee (petrol mostly), however, we can hire a driver to do the driving for you and get your race car configuration ready without your active involvement. He still has to work down the needed time. You might want to return in a few racing weekends or so. In the meantime, why don’t you enjoy the Bavarian landscape for a while and do some hiking?”

Is it them or Mercedes that sells a subscription to their heated seats?

I believe that is BMW as well. Though I think they backed out upon hearing their customers complaints…lol.

Does AFK farming effect your driver level?

It does not affect the driver level in the game, but I believe it does not improve your level as a player.

Am i the only person in the world that thinks this system actually has potential?

So you want to have a maxed out car on your first MP race? What game do you start with max wapons and gear, or skills, or the best team or player or whatever?

I think this system is starting from a very good basis. Could 100% be improved.

How i would’ve done it? Ingame money system. Well done. Fully realistic.

As in, cars cost a lot. Parts may cost a lot if they’re top tier, if you smash your car and parts in a race, you have to pay full price for it, or have it refurbed at a cost of performance, or you just put back the stock one if you still have it around. Affinity could be used for getting part discounts or a fixed number of free parts (like sponsor). If you don’t perform with the car, you lose affinity and the sponsor. You smash other ppl’s car and it was your fault? You pay for it. No more money? Back to SP or sell some cars…

Wanna play MP? You pay for an entry fee for each race (there would be good prize money but you’d be breakeven if you finished 5th from last all the way to losing the entry money fully if last).

This, of course would be a bit taxing for new or unexperienced players but eventually, the game itself would come out as the benificiary.

If they made a full career mode with the things above but in a MP context, where everyone is basically playing their own career and they’d have to drive X races of this type, using X car(s), with X drivetrain, X perf level, etc and get a min. grid place in each race to progress, that would be a gamemode i’d play. Even casually!

For the casual gamer that sometimes just wants to play and that’s it, you could have fixed performance level races where everyone is at the same level, weekly races, theme races, blabla. Same boring old stuff, tbh.

But please don’t make MP a tasteless clash of ppl with the same exact cars, using the same exact upgrades.

Seriously carxp has nothing to share with FM series and it’s also badly implemented in this title…
The player base leaving Is Just a confirm…

Can we equip cars with guns or equip them with gear? No. This is a car racing game, not an MMORPG or FPS game. The car leveling system serves no purpose here other then turn away players by the masses.

I think it does, my mate is far beyond L1000 by now (afk farming his collection to max). I play actively but scarcely (waiting for a patch to fix the whole mess that is FM 2023) < L200.

Yes it does

You’re just asking to make even more players leave at this point

They need to remove car leveling not only to help save the environment but also to save our sanity.
