This game for the most part is pretty good. I have played Forza since 2 and can appreciate where they are now, but the career has problems in my opinion. First complaint I have is the stupid Top Gear track. That needs to be gotten rid of with driving through “London”. We get it, Turn 10 thinks London is for some reason full of trash and other crap in the road. Well guess what?, it’s not that fun to drive on that stupid track. It’s already bad enough that a race occurs on that track at all. The Xbox is trying to process the audio for crap being hit and in the mean time the gear change from 3rd to 4th in the Merc Black Edition gets jammed at the same tune and you can’t make anything out until it fixes it’s self with the shift into 5th (maybe it’s just my game).
Second, as has been stated with past games, the two lap races are annoying as hell. Why are they so short? Starting in 14th or 12th is stupid to get to 1st in two laps. I mean it is doable, but not before you restart the same race 30 times to make it a clean race. I don’t understand the mentality of short races because they don’t occur anywhere in real life (to my knowledge) and the concept of making up that many positions in two laps is dumb. I mean even 3 laps would be 10 fold better than 2.
Finally, the drivatars can be all over the place. I understand they want the race to appear “authentic” or whatever they want to call it but when a car moves from the left all the way to the right side of the track or vice versa in a split second, that can be annoying. I drive clean laps in that I avoid hitting cars just so I don’t get stuck with bad versions of these drivers and a lot of times to do this in two laps you are anywhere but on the track I feel. I leave it on expert setting for now, but I don’t see much difference between that and average at this point. And right now I don’t want to be humbled on professional.
That’s the end of the rant even though I like this game, but some stuff is just stupid.
i dont think they are trying to insult london. its a tie in with top gear that went a little overbaord to show off the physics on the xbox 1. 2 lap races are to apease the casuals who cant be bother to spend more time with their short attention spans. starting at the back i think was their attempt to make it challenging to forza fans. the drivatars…like you said 2 laps to get from last to 1st? you have to remember the drivatars were trained trying to get from last to 1st in two laps. yeah that takes alot of uncommon in a real race moves. pc sales are down. console sales are down. you know whats up? phones. ever played a phone game? over all they are time wasters for short attention spans. and i think turn ten hired some analyst, actuarian, accountant, or other pencil pusher who noticed that…but failed to notice the xbox one is not a flippin phone.
the same people back in the 90s would have looked at all the drowning stats for phoenix (the middle of a desert) and come to the conclusion we must be the middle of the ocean and needed a system to get rid of what little water we do have.
I never really thought they were trying to insult London with the premise but that kind of racing is annoying in my opinion. I understand the want of trying to do a tech demo but it is frustrating. I can also see where you are coming from with the short attention spans and how the drivatars are doing the same thing to beat really low odds of getting from last to first cleanly. Anyway, like I said the game for the most part is better than the previous games even with less cars and tracks I just hope they can eventually increase the laps from 2 to even just 3 and fixing some of the audio problems.
The career mode seems to be geared now to players who just want to ‘pick up and play’. Casual users don’t want more than a couple of laps. I’m old enough to remember arcade, real arcade! , racers that only had two laps. It was that or time limited. For me the current career format is loathsome. It has created maniacal new players who take their ‘expertise’ online and drivatars that verge on the psychotic. You only get away from the demolition derby by upping the difficulty level to pro or unbeatable. But then you have the snag that the guy starting first when you start fourteenth drives like the wind!
I must say that I have really liked the race grid format available in FM 3 and 4.
Yeah, I’ll move it up to pro and see what happens. It seems like an effect exists where cars drive really well before you pass them and then when you do they fall off the face of the earth. I also do have the occasional side swipe problem where drivatars tend to scrape your car in turns even though you got in first. I finished all of Forza 2’s and 4’s career mode but like you say it can get repetitive and the psychotic drivers can come in at any time and make it worse. I tend to stray away from online racing due to the overwhelming pile ups at the beginning of races or feeling the need to do well and inadvertently doing something that screws someone else over. Either way I will continue playing career and see how far it takes me.
as you go up in race class the laps do increase. r and x class races are about twice as long as d class. the audio problems are new, the last update/fix broke something. hopefully they “unfix/unbreak” it. all i get now online is wookie chat and i cant understand anything chewbaca is saying. they can either fix the new problem or lacking that they could roll back the update.
Guessing you will be much more annoyed once you progress in the game and will be driving high speed cars (let’s say a souped up sixties musclecar) around the same track several times for 4 or 5 laps at a time “because that how the series are programmed” in the game.
I am thinking you might need to tone down the aggrevation towards the game and learn the physics of FM5; I feel it is much more enjoyable to drive, even with the Drivatars on Pro or better, if you know how a car handles, when & where to brake and how hard and to learn the nooks and crannies of every track.
Look, I am not a good driver. I manage maybe top 5000 times during my regular career, even when trying hard. But once you get the love for a certain car and know each track like the back of your hand, you can do amazing things on this game. Yes, I did a top 250 time on a Community Bounty Hunt about a month ago. Proud as **** on my effort. But it only happens if you perfect the interaction between player & controller, unfortunately not by ranting & raving early in the game about a London challenge.
Chin up mate; you should be fine in a few weeks time after 50+ hours or driving hard with as little assists as possible.
The physics and learning a car or track have little effect on how you have to drive just to get up front in two laps. The drivatars are terrible no matter the difficulty. If the races were longer it would be a bit more enjoyable. 2 laps is just stupid. I know that’s harsh, but I don’t understand how nobody in game development thought, “Oh 2 laps might be a bit too short and may cause drivatars to act unnaturally”
I work in the pencil pushing field as the ignorant fool up top so eloquently put it, and I even could see this problem well into my first series in career.
It sounds like the higher up decision makers got caught up in the idea they had for the game without taking a step back to analyze it’s effects. Being under a strict deadline likely contributed to the oversight among other design ideas I would think.
I don’t think he understood that before he made his post. You are right in saying that in everyone’s attempt to get 1st place the drivatar system would fail in that you get a bunch of unrealistic actions for something that is too short. If the races were longer you would get a lot of people that were a lot less rushed and a more natural feeling race. Like you said, physics and learning a track have little to do with anything when it comes to the actions of others. What point is there learning a good line through a track when it will be constantly blocked while you are racing due to the amount of cars and what they are trying to accomplish in the 2 laps? The race is dynamic and you could be anywhere on the track and need to make adjustments accordingly. Once you get out front the cars tend to fall off pretty fast.
OctagonQontrol is right in saying that I need to spend more time with the game before ranting, but I will say that I will never like the concept of smashing through a bunch of objects on a track while trying to race especially starting in last place with just two laps.
vwpilot70 put it well in saying that it seems like a crash through to the front due to the short race. I mean I get to the front without crashing but it’s definitely not done in a decent amount of time. I mean I know there are people who don’t care about crashing because I have seen them, but for those that do, 2 laps wastes more time than 5 ever could with the amount of times you restart.
I don’t drive with any assists on and I know how a car handles, but you can’t account for how a drivatar will drive their car at any given point. If you restart enough times you can see weird things happen with the same drivatars on the same track and even in the same race. It also doesn’t help when you aren’t being aggressive and you allow the cars in front of you to take a turn and all of a sudden you get slammed in the back of your car for not getting through the turn due to traffic backing up or you get side swiped because you are on the inside of a turn and a drivatar comes from the outside in.
Also, why would I be annoyed if they are going to give you 4 to 5 laps to drive the muscle car? I even stated that 3 laps would be a lot better. I’m not complaining about how cars handle from me driving it. I was complaining about what other cars do unexpectedly and it’s not like the drivatars do the same thing on the same track every time.
Finally, the only track I’m complaining about in particular is the Top Gear track with the trash bins, barricades, and other stuff on it. Turn 10 usually has you repeating the same stuff over and over again in career mode and it wasn’t farfetched to believe you’d be doing the London thing many times.
It would be nice if T10 could simply implement an option for race length. That shouldnt be hard to do at all, just like a difficulty setting, you just have an option for length of race.
In that way, those that want to crash their way through two lap races for lack of attention span can do so, and those of us that want to have a 5 or 10 lap race so that we can actually drive through the field in a normal way, have that option as well.
