Why???

I have been a huge forza fan since the first, but I’m pretty upset ever since they went to the cloud servers i haven’t been able to play i have a moderate NAT that i cannot set to open as it is used for business, I’m pretty convinced there is no way around this so i guess this will be a short rant i sure hope the next forza isn’t like this.

It’s not just Forza … it’s gaming in general. Cloud based storage is becoming the wave of the future. Grab a board.

Does titan fall and battlefield 4 use cloud servers? if so why is forza the only thing not working?

Try going into console settings by pressing the menu button and choosing settings. Then go to power and startup and if it is set to instant on change it to energy save mode.

Backlit and turn off your console. Turn it on and try again.

Last night I had to reboot before searching for a lobby. If I did anything else I could not join but rebooting and immediately going to multiplayer it let me find a room.

Put your Xbox in the DMZ. This way, you don’t need to open the NAT up. If your router can’t do a DMZ, well, you need a new one.

I don’t think you can’t play because of moderate NAT type. I always have a moderate NAT. As my son has Xbox one as well I cant do the port forwarding to mine as it would affect his.

I’m assuming that everyone here is using a router (don’t know your brand).

You can do port forwarding to both consoles. You need to assign a permanet IP address to both xbox one colsoles. Then do port forwarding to both IP addresses.

To the OP. You can set a permanent IP for your Xbox One & port forward that IP address. Then you have open NAT, on that IP adress to that Xbox One.

I’m no computer/router wiz, but I had no problems setting mine up for permanent IP address & port forwarding. The router I use is D-LINK DGL 5500 & I love it. I use a wireless connection. Both my Xbox One & 360 have permanent IP addresses & both have been port forward. Both consoles always have open NAT (even when both are on & being played at the same time). Now, I did put my DSL modem into bridged mode (quick call to my internet provider) so that only my router is doing the firewall.

I hate to derail or hijack this but I assigned an IP for my Xbox1 and port forwarding, I still show moderate NAT. I can play online so i have no clue if its affecting me lol, but any direction you could point me to OPEN NAT would be appreciated. I too am no tech wiz, i can do enough to get me through things if i find the steps.

You probably need to call your Internet provider & have them tell you how to put your modem in bridged mode. What’s happening is your modem & router are both trying to do the firewall. This can cause strict or moderate NAT, even with port forwarding. When modem is in bridged mode, only your router is the firewall, leading to open NAT. I was having that problem till I called my Internet Provider, & the person on the phone told me about bridging my modem. That’s how I found out about both modem & router firewall causing NAT issues. that’s how I found out that putting modem into bridge mode leaves only the router handling firewall. With my modem in bridged mode (only router doing firewall), assigning permanet IP addresses (to my xbox one & 360) & port forwarding (to both xbox one & 360 IP addresses) has my NAT always open on my Xbox One & Xbox 360. Even with both consoles signed in on xbox live at the same time playing online.

There is good information on portforward.com and also try your router manufacture forums. I have been setting up my own routers from many manufactures and the process is almost the same for every router. Sometimes it can be difficult. Once I learned it, I have been able to troubleshoot any connection problems. It will take some time to understand it but it is better than spending hours on the phone with tech support.

If you are still getting moderate NAT, try powering down your Xbox, router and modem for a minute. Then power on your modem and wait a minute. Then power your router. Next try to test the xbox live connection. This usually helps any hicups with changing router settings.

I’m no expert but I wanted to learn how to fix connection issues when no one could help me.

Also, setting up 2 xboxes on one router to play at the same time is a whole other beast. I won’t even touch that one.

Let me tell you story/experience. 3 yrs ago, around the time Forza 4 was released, Microsoft did an update for Xbox 360 console (or 5 yrs ago when Forza 3 came out, I can’t remember). Ethier way, this update wrecked havoc on my NAT and the ability to connect with people to race on Forza & COD. This led to me calling my Internet Provider. This is when I learned about bridging my modem. Apparently, after the new 360 update, my modem & router firewall was causing my NAT issues. Putting modem in bridged mode let the router be firewall only & fixed my NAT problem. Now my NAT would be open 95% of the time, unless my power blinked & caused havoc with my NAT on my old cisco valet router. After going through the re-set up junk with that router my NAT would be back open. At this time I had 2 xbox 360 consoles. My main console was open NAT & one used very little was strict. This didn’t bother me because I really didn’t use other console. Fast forward to last fall when D-Link released the DGL-5500. I was itching to get rid of my sorry cisco valet, so I bought D-Link. When Xbox One came out, my NAT stayed open. Only time I had problem with my NAT now was if I powered off router to re-set the abilty of my router to show me bandwith useage by device (cool feature). But I would have to play with Xbox One/360 to get open NAT again. Like by doing network disconnect & hard start on Xbox One. Or just disconnecting xbox 360 & reconnecting would fix that console. However I grew tired of this.

That is when I looked into port forwarding on xbox support website. They had a link to portforwarding.com. They had excellent instrutions on how to port forward on my D-Link. I assigned the respective port forwarding to the IP addresses of Xbox One & 360. Now while I was logged into my D-Link via laptop, that’s when I noticed that all my devices didn’t have assigned IP addresses. Which ment doing port forwarding to consoles current assigned IP address was pointless, since my router after a set amount of time would assign new IP address. So, I reserved the 2 IP addresses for my Xbox One & 360. They always will have that IP address. Therefore the port forwarding will always be assigned to their respective IP address.

I no longer have NAT issues at all with my modem in bridge mode, assigned IP addresses & port forwarding to the consoles respective IP addresses. Even if I restart my router for specified reason given earlier. I’m totally happy with 100% open NAT on Xbox One & 360. Even if I got both consoles playing any game online at same time. Always Open Now!

Remember, I only got port forwarding set to both consoles IP addresses. Will not effect my laptop, tablets, DIRECTV genie, or cell phone at all, because port forwarding is not assigned to their respective permanet IP addresses. Therefore, the firewall will take care of those devices just fine.

Just edited my last comment ^^^^^^^ with better info. Hope this fixes your issue WHITEMANLS1

@ Gangrel, It sounds like you have been through the whole range of NAT fun. The router you have now is excellent. I think all the AC routers from Dlink and Netgear have made a giant leap forward.

I’m using a Netgear WNDR3700 on a cable internet modem and It works great. It has a menu button to turn NAT off if I wanted but I never have 2 Xboxes on at the same time. So the XBox One is port forward and the 360 is DMZ because I hardly use it.

I have been looking at the AC1900’s and almost bought one but my current router is working perfect. I’m glad to hear that you are having good results with the AC1300. It’s nice to know that they work as advertised.
.

I have a DSL modem. Real soon, I should have gigabyte internet (can’t wait either). Just waiting for the email from the company saying that they have it in my area, ready to go. Hopefully before end of the year. Their fiber runs through my city. Just waiting for my street/area.

As long as they keep having issues with the XBL servers for Xbox One, it won’t matter how fast your Internet is. I have a FiberLAN connection with 250Mbit/s down and 100Mbit/s up with NAT open, and I still get “weak connection” occasionally when I play online. Hopefully the Xbox One server issues will be solved by the time 26 more markets open up in September.

I know that should be sorted out soon. I’m more excited about downloading my digital copies of games blazing fast. Quick example. downloading a 30 gb game with 1000 mb download speed will only take around 4 mins. Download time chart

As a matter of fact, my 4tb external usb 3.0 hdd will arrive today from amazon. When ever June update comes out for Xbox One, I’ll have a ton of external storage space for my Xbox One.
