Problems with Multiplayer

Hey guys,

So I received my Xbox One a few days ago, got it all set up and I immediately popped in my Forza 5 LE. Amazing game btw. After playing a few races in the career mode, I wanted to play with my buddy online. Well, it wasn’t working…basically it kept dropping me from the Multiplayer lobby or when I get in the race, I would be the only one accelerating after the “3, 2, 1”…then it would drop after a few seconds. I looked up the problem and I found out about this whole NAT stuff. I looked at my Network settings from the dashboard and the NAT type was Strict, so I researched and finally got it to Open with “All services available.” Even when I test the Multiplayer Connection, everything is fine and I hold down the bumper and triggers at the same time to view the “Detailed NAT information” and it comes out to be “Your network is behind a cone NAT” (which apparently means everything is fine).

My download speed is around 20Mbps, and upload is around 8-10Mbps, and yet, I’m STILL having problems. I will get in to lobbies, wait it all out to get in a race, and I would even be able to initially start the race with everyone in the lobby…but after 5, 10, 15 seconds, I get disconnected. I tried putting it in “Energy Saving” mode and some of those other suggestions like all the Port Forwarding stuff and it I am still having this issue.

I’m able to join parties, etc. but just when I initially start the race with everyone, after some seconds go by…I get disconnected. I don’t want to do all this bs with the DMZ and such, I just want a better, simple way of fixing this problem.

I don’t mind not having multiplayer connectivity with Forza for the time being since I’m still getting used to the game and I want to learn all the tracks through career mode; but I would like to get this fixed in a timely manner. It’s a fantastic game, love the physics, cars, graphics, and everything…but this multiplayer issue is really hurting right now.

Can anyone provide any assistance to fix this problem? Edit**: I do have a direct connection going from my router to the Xbox…I would like to keep it that way. Wireless has worked for me once but I wanted a direct connectkion for better, and more consistent performance. I should have another game soon to try out if it is doing the same thing with it.

Missing a lot of info in your post like DHCP enabled/disabled, port-forwards defined and so on.

Well, this is the only and fastest way to check if your console IS ALLOWED using XBL over your ISP since it bypasses your router. Or you can play your console directly into your modem (if that is separate and not also your router) and see what happens.

I find it incredible that even with a “next gen” machine, we still have to jump backwards through hoops in order to enjoy the product as advertised.

I can’t for the life of me understand why we can’t just plug the box in, plug the internet in, and play.

DHCP is enabled on the router, but I have a static IP address for the Xbox One. Port-forwarding 53, 80, 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500.

The reason why I don’t want to do the DMZ steps is because I shouldn’t have to. My 360 worked completely fine with Forza 4 with a direct connection and all these steps to diagnos this problem are ridiculous, AND ideally…I don’t want to screw with my network anymore if I don’t have to. That is why I’m looking for a more simple solution here. I figured someone probably had the same problem as myself and could share how they fixed it.

If it boils down to me having to set up the DMZ with the Xbox One’s ip address in it but I’ve already accomplished getting my NAT type to “Open”, which seems like that was the goal to get this thing working correctly.

Is your router compatible with the xbox one? I’d start there. I had to upgrade once because of that.

I have no idea what a DMZ is and never had to bother with that.

As far as I know, you are missing a few ports but these may have been changed recently though/again:
TCP: 53, 80, 3074, 3075, 42920
UDP: 53, 88, 500, 3074, 3075, 3076, 3544, 4500, 36081, 42920, 49390

I do understand the frustration but as RPM Swerve points out; your router may not be up to the task. Putting the IP for the One in DMZ, will immediately confirm/deny if there is an issue with your router, NAT and so on. The same goes by TRYING, just for 5 minutes, hooking up your One as the sole device directly to the modem.

I will try to add the additional ports later today. Like I said, I had the Wifi working with the Xbox One but I don’t like relying on the Wifi as well as losing a little under half the bandwidth coming from the radio frequency signal vs the direct connection.

Is there any determining factor that the router might not work with the Xbox One? I don’t think this is the problem since the Wifi has worked before for one full race (didn’t try another). It’s a pretty good router, and I find it incredibly annoying that I would have to get another router, just to support the Xbox One.

If the port forwarding with the new suggested ports do not work, I will try doing the DMZ solution…and if that doesn’t work, I will resort to Wifi and see if that works. Now, if none of that works…I will contact Microsft directly. If this problem doesn’t get figured out from them, I think I will survive with getting rid of my Xbox One.

I have been in contact with Microsoft Support and they instructed me through steps for about an hour. After nothing worked…I decided to see if another game works on multiplayer. I borrowed my friends Battlefield 4 game, and played the entire match on multiplayer. Something is wrong with Forza where it either disconnects me within about 5-10 seconds of the race with other people starting off the line, OR everyone sits on the grid and I am the only one that accelerates, which soon leads to a disconnection from the server.

I was told to talk to a Turn 10 developer from Microsoft Support. I’ve had this problem going on about a month now…and I’m getting more frustrated by the day. I’ve been calm about this since but it’s about time we solve what is going on here because I’m almost at the point where I am going to sell Forza, never looking back again. Please provide instructions Turn 10.

bump

Any updates Turn 10? …bump.

I don’t have that issue. I’ve not heard of anyone else having this particular issue on this board. I don’t think it’s just a Forza issue. but I’d reach out to turn 10 directly on this one. I don’t know the emails but do a search here for support and i’m sure someone will have listed the email.

However - I did see twitter post from Turn 10 that they are having some kind of issue today (or yesterday) but not something going back a month.

I play in the UK and the server performance this last couple of months has been shocking. Distorted sound, jerkovision and lag. I’m on optic and no problems with other games/media. This really is unacceptable and it’s not like it’s been a day or two of “server maintenance”. I know 5 has laser modelling but TBH it’s not as good as 4 with a smooth connection. What makes it worse is the (feels like) 5 hour wait from joining a lobby (1 lap completed) to your next race starting (the worlds longest and slowest countdown) only then to discover it’s unplayable.

C’mon guys - put a coin in the slot.

I just want to be able to join private lobbies and race without a problem for organized racing. Yet, I still can’t do this. Come. On.

I have had this same exact problem. I just bought the game on Black Friday, and everything works fine until I get into a multiplayer race, where I almost immediately get disconnected. I don’t think it is live, because at no point in the process am I disconnected from the internet (I could stay in a party the whole time, even as I am disconnected from the race). Also, all of my other games work online. I called xbox support, they had a lot of suggestions and tried hard, but after 3 hours nothing helped. I think it is a Forza related problem, but there is no good support avenue through Turn 10. Emailing them is unreliable. If someone has a suggestion, PLEASE let me know, otherwise at least I’m not the only one perplexed by this issue. I’m going to try it at another person’s house who has different ISP, I’ll try to report back if there is a change.

Have you found out anything Shagg?
