Why Lobbies Are So Terrible

I just wanted to voice my frustration as to why the hoppers and leagues are so flawed in Hope’s they’ll change in the future:

1 Races are too short.

Races are far too short in the game which means you have to drive overly aggressive to win or make places. Smooth and cautious driving styles aren’t rewarded past the lap 1 mayhem. More endurance hoppers and leagues are needed badly and standard races should be longer.

I think a perfect solution would be to scrap the lap counter all together and base it on time instead. 10 to 15 minutes (depending on the class) + 1 lap is the perfect length for a standard hopper, whereas 30 to 45 minutes (depending on the class) + 1 lap is perfect for an Endurance race.

  1. No qualifying or practice.

All hoppers should have a one-shot qualifying session. It would make the starting grid more fair, clear up a little bit of turn 1 carnage and give a slight bit of practice before each race starts. For endurance hoppers I think a 10 minute qualifying session is perfect. Again, it would just give players that little bit of practice for that track before the race starts, it would make the grids more fair, clear up some turn 1 troubles and add another dynamic to the game.

  1. Rolling starts should be forced on in multiplayer unless it’s a division that specifically uses standing starts in real life (F1, IndyCar, etc).

Rolling starts would prevent a lot of the turn 1 chaos. I think they should be forced on in every hopper unless the division doesn’t use them in real life. I think they should be forced on in rain races as well. Standing starts are just too unpredictable when cars (especially in class hoppers) launch completely differently. Theres been multiple times where someone stalls or doesn’t move off the line and all of a sudden there’s a huge pile up. Rolling starts would help prevent that.

  1. Proper vote to kick system.

The current system doesn’t work. People need to know who’s being voted to kick, the amount of votes required for the offender to be kicked and the time remaining before it resets.

  1. More lenient track limits & penalties & more sophistication.

People keep saying the track limits need to be re-drawn and I agree but a simple solution to make the limits slightly more fair would be to make is so only 1 tire is required to be on the white line instead of two. That would allow a little more leeway when pushing the limits and if that’s not enough then they could look intona complete redraw. The penalties for cutting the course are also way too harsh and I do think there needs to be a three strikes and you’re out system for really minor offenses like a tiny track extend. For a huge cut, even if it’s your first offense you should be hit hard but if I make a tiny extend for the first time, I really think a warning is sufficient like F1 2019’s implementation. The system also needs to be more sophisticated coming back dangerously on track needs punishing. Contact fforcing player off should impact whether you get a penalty or not and so on.

6 Disqualification needs to be harsher.

If you get disqualified from a race, you should be booted from the session and furthermore I think you should be soft-banned from entering multiplayer for maybe an hour or so.

  1. More penalty types needed.

As I said earlier a warning system is needed for slight corner cuts or track extends. 3 strikes and you’re out is the perfect system. Same goes for collisions. Extremely contacts shouldn’t receive a warning but if nudge ssome to overtake them, that’s definitely a wearable offense. I also really like the idea of a drive through penalty and the final punishment before disqualification. Sort of a final warning before getting kicked. There also really needs to be penalties as I said, for rejoining the track dangerously, cutting the pit entry or pit exit lines, going backwards on the circuit and so on. Collision penalties also need a big overhaul.

  1. Flag System Needed.

A yellow flag system is badly needed. All that needs to happen is a yellow flag should come up on screen saying what’s happened in what sector. For example, “Caution! Car Off In Sector 3” or something Along those lines. We sort of already have the system in place but it needs refining. Blue flag isn’t needed because of ghosted backmarkers but it still could be handy just to warn them. A Virtual Safety car or Safety car in general could be handy like in F1 2019 but I think the yellow flag system would work fine.

  1. Track rotation is terrible.

It needs improving immediately. Fast cars on mini circuits is plain dumb. I don’t understand why they don’t keep lower classes (E, D and maybe C) predominantly on mini circuits, mid classes like (B, A & S) predominantly on short layouts and fast classes like (R, P & X) on full circuits only. Its makes complete sense to me. Some tracks should be omitted completely like Top Gear Full. Not only that but here’s how the algorithms should work for example:

B Class League:

Type of circuit: Short (No mini or full layouts)

All locations have an equal chance of appearing.

Once a location is picked, all layouts within that (which meet the criteria of circuit length) have an equal chance of being picked.

The second vote choice follows the same formula.

The random vote choice follows the same formula but is obviously unknown Untul selected

I didn’t want to turn this into w wishlist, hence why I didn’t list any features I’d like added in. This is all just refining the current system that’s already there in place. Theres tones of things they need to add but if they refined all this first, I’d be happy.

support for this game has already ended. That means that this game will probably never receive another update again. Let’s hope to see FM8 meet our expectations, since they are currently working on that.

Oh I know support ended a good few months back. I’m hoping that this is refined for Forza Motorsport 8. I probably should’ve cleared that up, apologies.

Call me silly, (and I know some of you will :p) but I’m keeping a positive outlook for the next Forza title. FM7 received more support and for longer than any previous title, most of which was in response to community feedback. A big development was the FRR. We all know it isn’t perfect, and I’m sure T10 is aware of that as well, but they have the foundation for the next title. I’m thinking they will build on that to make it even better in the next game. Will the next title be perfect out of the box? Probably not, no game is anymore, but I feel it will be pretty damn good, and given the attention the gave to FM7 I think they will strive to make it what we all want.

I think they’re going to need to split how the lobbies are handled or something. Have longer races, with qualifying and harsher penalties and then something similar to what “normal” lobbies have always been. The Motorsport series has an extremely diverse audience, so pleasing everybody or finding a happy medium will be extremely difficult (or basically impossible).

I think it’s also fair to note it needed all that post launch support because of how the game was on release. As you said, there’s a better foundation to work off now and hopefully FM8 takes advantage of everything learnt from the past few titles.

Agree with everything you say here

As for splitting lobbies, they could do the more “realistic” stuff I Leagues and leave class racing to hoppers.

I will say this though, though FM is diverse, they need to focus on the core audience. They’re the ones who don’t jump ship when Horizon comes around and the guys who put hundreds if not thousands of hours into the game. It’s all well and good pleasing the casual audience but the core audience is far more beneficial to the game’s longevity and success.

As for platforms, FM7 is an incredible platform to build from if done correctly.

  1. No qualifying or practice.

All hoppers should have a one-shot qualifying session. It would make the starting grid more fair, clear up a little bit of turn 1 carnage and give a slight bit of practice before each race starts. Again, it would just give players that little bit of practice for that track before the race starts, it would make the grids more fair, clear up some turn 1 troubles and add another dynamic to the game.

Actually, isn’t every race is a qualifying session for the next race? Fastest, clean lap will start on pole and then everyone lines up in order of lap times, clean and then dirty.

I always dirty my laps so I start mid to back of the pack. I love passing everyone!!

  1. If no input is received from a player in the first .25sec of the race (very lenient human response time), they are ghosted out until they resume racing (meaning they remain ghosted until they wouldn’t be an impedance to other drivers).

Here’s a problem: I play on a two-screen PC. When in a lobby I often will browse the web on a second monitor while the race is starting. If I fail to move my mouse cursor (window focus?) back to the Forza7 window before the race starts, it won’t receive any input from the wheel/pedals, and will actually pause itself (brings up the game menu) until I refocus it. This is super frustrating for me, but probably way more frustrating for the poor guy who starts behind me and is driving into the back of an un-moving car.
