Now that Forza Motorsport 7 is out I wanted to start up a thread where people can share their experiences with Multiplayer, specifically the Public Hoppers (and to alesser extent Leagues).
There were quite a few active threads for Forza Motorsport 6 about this topic and I am hoping that by having a dedicated topic on this a greater picture of peoples’ online experience will be painted. Who knows, maybe somebody from Turn 10 is reading.
So, this thread’s focus then is around the following question:
How has the on-track experience been for you in Forza Motorsport 7’s Public Multiplayer environment?
If you’ve had clean races, speak up.
If you’ve had nasty ones, speak up too.
If a particular Hopper has been more fun for you than the others, let players know.
One final note: This thread is not one where we should be discussing the lack of certain Hopper types, issues with Homologation etc. There are other threads for that already. I would like for us to discuss the on-track experience only.
Side note: There is a new tool in Multiplayer that allows you to give feedback on other drivers. Simply highlight a player’s name and select the appropriate option:
I have only done races in 2 of the Homologation Hoppers, Track Toys and Rise of the Supercar.
The races themselves have been fairly balanced. No “leaderboard cars” standing out although some cars are better at certain tracks.
The first lap can often be chaos, especially on narrow street circuits.
Despite the frequency of crashes I have seen, the majority of them have been unintentional. It’s just people having a lack of skill or awareness, and not a lack of respect. What I’m trying to say is that I haven’t come across any griefers yet.
Once a race settles some good battles are to be had, especially since races are now often 4 laps long instead of 3. (or 8 minutes instead of 6)
There are some things I am concerned about however:
The grid ordering is set to Random. This should be set to Fastest First so that players are rewarded for driving cleanly with better grid slots in the next race.
The starting grid should be a Rolling one and not a Standing one. This helps avoid the common issue of a player not moving off the start line and also not ghosting quickly enough to avoid getting hit from behind.
The racing has been somewhat clean. I have seen two intentional wreckers. Which is odd to buy a game for a $100 and then instantly start trolling but whatevs.
I agree the grid order needs to go back to fastest clean lap on pole. Also they need to ghost out the cars that don’t start. They are just objects sitting at the start line now.
The track rotation and lap count should really be looked into. In the track toys hopper, Le Mans full came up with a 4 lap race. Le Mans full shouldn’t be in that hopper to begin with let alone 4 laps. Compare that to Road Atlanta which is 3 laps, and then Watkins Full which is 6 laps. Makes no sense.
I’ve been using your BAC Mono tune, podium every time
I’m just trying to be constructive and want to get a discussion going about this specific aspect of Multiplayer.
I have also tried to keep my opening post as neutral as possible as other threads I have seen have started negative which encourages others to be, and we don’t need more of that here. I am hoping that people share their good experiences as well as the bad, so that we can all have more fun online together.
[Update: Just seen your post in the other thread, I understand your point. I’ll edit this one as the other is locked.]
Some good discussion here though, and the OP clearly took his time to make this thread. I am happy there has been some good racing, I thought it would be much worse.
Cheers for everyone who tries to keep it clean!
It’s still too early to give my review of Forza 7 Multiplayer state but my initial 2 races we’re filled with noobs who I guess thought this was a Horizon expansion.
On the lobby menu side, not only does it take too long to load everyones setup, but I really hate looking at everyones driver clothes and the car is off to the side like an afterthought. I prefer the other way around like past Forza games, I want to see the car livery/tune first then I’ll take a peek at their driver clothes. Driver gear is just another thing to load causing slow downs and should be removed entirely.
Also, finding the leaderboards was tough, is there another way to find them other than Free Play > Game Setup > Track > Layout > Finding the class and division is a disaster.
Only 2 or 3 races on the day it was early released.
Since then im not able to connect or play one single multiplayer race - first i thought, ok they fix the mp, on the next day i thought ok maybe its my internetsettings, then i found out about that chatprogramm, wasted 2 hours trying to fix what wasnt broken in the first place.
Now i connect to a race, which is always in the middle of the race, i try to wait. Sometimes the game just crashes after 1min, sometimes i can wait till the race is finished only to get a crash when the next track is loading.now i dont even look in the menu for mp.
Having VIP also dont give you any advance in the mp lobby…maybe im wrong…but i think to remember that in fm3 if you had vip it would open a new lobby for you and filled it up. Or was it another game?
What a shame.
If only the KI would be average…but you cant even go hotlapping with constant freezes and ctd and all that mess…
My concern for the driver feedback would be abuse of the system.
Of what little MP I’ve done so far, I would describe the behavior of online racing in FM7 as typical Forza. Seen a couple of wreckers, but nothing too far out of the ordinary. So far, less wreckers than in FM6(right now), but it’s pretty early and the hoppers are very limited in scope.
I have only raced in the introductory hopper so far. I have found that once you get past turn 3 or 4 and if you have not been wiped out by either poor driving or poor sportsmanship, then usually you can get a nice clean race. I have been surprised to not be taken out coming into some tight turns with cars chasing. The actual racing once in the clear was excellent - sometimes I could catch and pass, other times not. Not too many people doing sideways moves when you attempt a pass on the straight, but there will always be some. I love the feedback idea.
I tried the first super lambo “hopper” (is that what the lobbies are called?)
Quit after the first turn because of the amount of general shenanigans.
I’ve played multiple hot hatch hoppers though, atleast 5 races a day since pre-release.
1st turn is the worst
last turn is also the worst
In general people like to come into turns too hot and use you as a brakepad, or will brake too early and get angry when you use them as so (Sonoma raceway, right after the start there’s a sort of uphill Chicane you can go flat out up, but the line tells you to brake, guy in front of me slammed on his brakes and I ate his booty) He got extremely mad and I understand as we were fighting for 1st and second respectively, I just didn’t have any time to react. Lines might need some work.
5/10 are okay with being overtaken, 5/10 will not let you by and if you try will ram you, it’s not so bad on FWD tho it is on other drivetrains.
I don’t like how Forza wings are more or less required to hit certain sweepers competitively, and honestly it’s mainly how ugly the hatchback wings are (not really a complaint that belongs here but hey)
The worst race I’ve had so far was a run at Spa, where after getting through the first turn with relatively no issues two people got into a shoving match on the downhill straight…
One pushed the other out who got pushed from behind and both went sideways and completely blocked the straight, ghost mode wouldn’t activate for any of us and everyone from position 10-24 ended up in a massive wreck. I rolled 5-6 times. That was really silly and I do believe I never want to race online at Spa again. Lol
Once you can predict and avoid those pileups you will do very well in the Hoppers; there have been many occasions where I start in the bottom half of the grid and am in a podium spot by the end of Lap 1 because of that.
———-
I did a few hours in the Classic Street Muscle Hopper this afternoon, and the experience was largely positive.
There were about 5 or 6 clean racers in the room who were fairly respectful during a battle, giving space, knowing when to make a move etc. I made sure to use the Driver Feedback tool to compliment each of them on their driving skills.
There were a few griefers in the room also however, I counted 3 but no more than 2 at once. Again, Driver Feedback was given.
———-
Now, I have a question for you all.
Let’s say there is somebody that isn’t griefing but does intentially cut corners during a race. In the Driver Feedback area, what to you report them as: Cheating or Dirty Driving?
I am leaning towards reporting them for Cheating, as I see Dirty Driving as being an option for reporting people who deliberately crash into others.
I’d say corner cutting is “Dirty Driving” whereas cheating is exploiting the game (e.g. somehow glitching a car into a hopper that breaks the homologation rules or something to that effect.) After all, in Rivals, if you go outside the track boundaries and the triangle thing shows up next to your time, that’s called a “DIRTY Lap” and not a “Cheating Lap.”
