Why is S2 (almost always) the most popular upgrade?

Hi,

It’s half a complaint, half a question - Im not a good tuner and I dont like it very much so im just downloading the tunes for my cars. There I see that no matter which class (D or S1) I want to upgrade, the most popular one (with most popularity stars) are always the tunes for S2. FOR GOD’S SAKE, how can u tune everything to S2 (even D class 60’ cars??) and basically ruin it with V12 ?? What is the fun and immersion in the game when you have a garage of S2 cars, no matter their era and purpose, all tuned like a Lamborghini ?? Is this game mostly played by 13 years olds, who thinks that every car max tuned is simply the best? I know that every one of you have a free choice in it, but I just cant stand a sight of 1940 Ford De Luxe Coupe tuned like a Koeniggsegg. My car enthusiast soul and eyes are just bleeding.

Because its FAST!!! The fact that it is mostly undrivable doesn’t matter. I hate it myself and rarely drive above A class and prefer D, C and B which I find much more fun.

Because to achieve S2 you don’t need to have a slight knowledge regarding forza tuning/upgrades mechanism. You just throw on car parts untill it reaches S2

If I’m looking to do the ridiculous power engine swap, I’ll generally take the v10 over the v12 if it’s available. I prefer to keep things to A class and lower, but crazy engine swaps and illogical AWD swaps don’t offend me. Indeed, I do AWD swaps more often than engines. I especially like to use it with a differential to rig rear engine cars up with FWD.

Main answer is the game has been redesigned for kids to enjoy, interest of kids is to have to quickest car. Since they are not able/willing to do their own tuning, they download a lot, once downloaded, few time later you are asked if you like it or not which improves the ranking of the tuning. Many got that fact and created S2 tuning to raise their tuning ranking. In other words, with the current game play, making a D class tune will hardly gives you a lot of potential likes.

Adding to that, despite the wideness of the tuning this game could suppose ( asphalt, dirt, cc , dry, wet, snow, rwd/fwd/awd) ), free roam cs push to always use awd with dirt tires and smooth suspensions so that many come to use the same tuning for all races.

S2 is what you get pretty often in team adventures, maybe they’re just popular by demand.

Anyway, good tunes can make such a big difference. It goes beyond plastering the PI with upgrade parts. I found a S2 tune for the Bond Z8 that feels absolutely incredible and delivers a perfect roadster experience. It might not be the fastest car build, but one of the most fun builds I’ve seen in the game. You can go into curves with hard angles, lose control as you see fit and get it back quickly too. Pure Freude am Fahren!

Then there are my clueless own builds…

This is my assumption. I need to find a group to play with that is opposed to crazy AWD V12 swaps. It was always so boring when everyone on H3 just wanted to sit and “drag race” at the airport which was nothing more than a top speed run with V12 swaps in everything. Very happy to see H4 has a shorter 1/4 mile strip if anyone will actually race there. I need to find a group that is into more realistic builds.

Mostly because a lot of players (even more so in Horizon than Motorsport) love acceleration and top speed. They don’t care about a balanced build or if it’s competitive - which is fine. Horizon with its open world gives them good reason to do that, too.
S2 and X builds always have been the most popular builds in Horizon and if you want to increase your tuner ranking you have to cater to that preference. I’ve seen so many S2 RS6 Avants that can’t take one single turn - but to each their own I guess.

There are walls and other drivers to “help” them out.

I keep my FE M6 in in AWD, with rally tires and the F50 GT V12 swap maxed out for 1,515 horsepower. I use it for farming skill points and Forzathon Live, where I also keep a skill chain going anywhere it’s worthwhile. It’s simply the most efficient way to work towards unlocking the wheelspins in any of the 8 Mazdas, 7 Nissans, 6 Renaults, or 3 Kia Stingers (I’ve already removed at least 1) waiting in my garage. I do get to the others; I tend to start from the edges of the alphabet and work inwards, as it takes less clicks, except between said wheelspins and wheelspins from leveling up, I receive more cars than I earn skill points to buy the wheelspins with, by a factor of about 2… That’s my biggest complaint with the game right now. But it’s all in my head. I don’t need those wheelspins…

Lower classes are where its at. S1, A and B classes are my top 3. So many different things to try/play around with in tuning to improve your driving. Ive gotten really into the tuning part of Forza finally. The other day i finally got 9:29:161 on Goliath with the McLaren F1 (S1900) and it felt like such an accomplishment since I tuned the car and the day before my fastest time with it was 10:09:040. Im pretty sure with a few tweaks here and there I could probably get a better lap time. Gets pretty addicting. Lol

I do my own upgrades and tunes for this reason. I rarely have cars above S1, majority Class A, and some Class B. I don’t like engine swaps or drivetrain swaps. I go for all around and great handling. I try for stock engine as well. I do share my tunes.

It’s not an age thing. It’s the type of player. This type of player is common in casual racing games.

It’s a mix of the “I just want to go fast” group and others who think more upgrades = a better car. Typically casual racing games are designed to where the more you put into a car, the better. The fact that this isn’t the case in Horizon but can get away with it is why many still put maxed out builds on cars.

in the past ive been all for fully modding cars, however the roads are so narrow and congested, i have most of my fleet tuned for A class. Im not going to complain about engine swaps, because i think its awesome a game allows them, but i usually avoid them unless its tangible in real life (LS swapped chevy muscle, etc)

Only car I can really tolerate to drive in S2 is the Vulcan with a tune I put on it for balance and handling. Other than that I try to avoid S2 if I can unless I just need some crazy car for PR Stunt or something off the wall. If I can’t take a corner in a car without sliding I tend to not drive it.

It’s all about physics, speed, mass, trajectory… I mean, what fun is it smashing another player into the wall with a D Class relic when you can do it with an S2 Class powerhouse?

I agree. Much rather have a controllable car. Love A and B mostly, sometimes a slower car is fun. The S/X works a lot better in regular Forza. There’s a lot more types of ground you are driving on in one race in Horizon , S/X is a nightmare most times.

You can search and filter tunes by class, if you are looking for a top end B tune for example, you can usually find a list of them for your current car and nothing else.

The game itself makes S1/S2 and top speeds an important thing, with all the speed traps and zones littering the map, stunt jumps also requiring a lot of speed to get the max distances, and a seemingly higher than 66% chance of all online adventures being S classes. It sucks but that’s the way it is. I wish I could get more online races in the lower classes. Lucky if one person on the server joins my initiated ones. Seasonal championships are the only option, but those vary week to week and you’re also at the mercy of randomness since what you queue up for may not be what you wind up playing.

Back in the days of Horizon 1 I was all about the max upgrade life. As soon as I bought a car I would throw everything on it. What brought me out of the blind upgrade darkness and into the light of thoughtful upgrades and proper tuning was getting absolutely spanked by a C class Mini Cooper in my x class F50GT. Actually thinking about your upgrade choices and taking the time to tune the car has enhanced the experience of Forza exponentially for me.

I like the S1 A and B upgrade classes. I like a reasonably controlled ride. To do the Forzathon Live I notice it helps to have an insanely fast ride to keep in the mix with everyone.
