Considering how the rest of the corporate world is sitting these days, I highly doubt it. He will be “laterally shifted” to somewhere else within MS and disappear.
History suggests that senior staff only appear publicly when there’s something to hype…
…and history also suggests that there’s cause for skepticism when senior staff are hyping something.
I think it’s a pretty safe bet, that any game called “live service,” or “Gaming as a Service,” should just be totally ignored until years after release. Trends show a tag like that means the game is going to suck
They can move him up to being Phil Spencer’s personal secretary for all I care, just as long as he’s far, far, far, far, FAR away from Turn 10 and not legally allowed anywhere near the studio’s doors ever again.
The big question I have right now is…what is Turn 10 going to do to regain some or all of the trust and goodwill that they basically set on fire with Motorsport 2023? This game’s not going to get any better - not with what we know about it’s development and what we’ve seen post-launch. And frankly, barring a massive cultural shift not just at Turn 10 but in the XBox gaming division as a whole, I don’t see how it gets any better. They have to get out of the business of making player engagement traps and timesinks.
I had misgivings about Chris Esaki being named as the lead, considering his previous work.
Where is this poor man’s Kazunori Yamauchi? It does not interest me anymore.
So… any announcements?
Yeah, Chris just mentioned they currently prioritize lobby size over safety and skill rating and that it isn’t what they initially envisioned.
It’s a general chat rather than a focussed announcement of any sort. He is commenting on queries raised on the stream though, so is interesting.
Was very clear he thinks that needs to change, even if that means smaller lobbies for people with an S rating. Didn’t give an indication of when that would be but said they are working on it.
That would be a strong step forward provided they can get it working. As it stands, multiplayer is a hit or miss experience depending on how many people are in the lobby and where you start. I’ve had good clean races weaving through lower level drivers and really bad races watching the chaos unfold in front of me. Glad they ghost and auto-drive your car when paused, it’s saved my bacon way too often.
Until changes are made however…
But is there an alternative?
Judging by the competition I encounter in the class hoppers with sorting by “skill” rating my lobbies would mostly consist of 1 (me) to 5 players at best.
Don’t know if that would be more fun than what we currently have.
Chris is discussing user comments about “drip feeding” - “We’re not sitting on content that’s ready to go. Every track that gets added is only ready at the time we release it.”
Yes, I think a skill/ safety rating bucket system would work to fill in the gaps. It’s basically the same thing we have now, just a lot less aggressive in terms of filling the lobby. I wouldn’t mind being grouped with a handful of similar skill and a slightly lower safety rating. S and A safety are not too dissimilar assuming everyone’s goal is to race cleanly.
To back this up, most projects at gaming studios run right up to deadline day. It’s not efficient to make a load of content, then just sit on it for several months when it’s already complete.
Really finding Chris to be very open and i even mentioned the toxicity of this forum. They’re not given up on fm8 and was reassuring to hear.
Answered my question on AI and there lots of improvements to come. Quote night and day changes.
Any word on the non existent singleplayer and whether T10 will breath some life into it?
He didn’t unfortunately I did ask a few times. AI for me sounded like the biggest change.
Maybe better AI will make career more fun.
Nice. Glad to watch this.
I already was looking forward to the AI updates in the future, and was glad to hear the comments about the focus on this.
