Weekly CARgument... Ferrari

I thought it would be fun to start a weekly thread where we pick one manufacturer or type of car or class of car and everybody pick their favorite and say why they think it is the best. It has to be a car that is in Horizon 4 to be your pick. So the thread doesn’t get too ridiculous and we keep it organized, each Saturday I will start a new thread with a new manufacturer or class etc. If someone has a recommendation feel free to throw that in. If you don’t see a new thread posted on Saturday feel free to start the it. I’ll pick mine and discuss it in the following post…

The Ferrari F40 Competizione

If my memory is correct the F40 is the first super car that hit 200 mph. It still holds a special spot for a lot of us that grew up around that era of first super cars. And the Competizione version just took the F40 to a whole new level. I also like it’s simple raw build and style and think it is more of a pure racing beast than the F50 that replaced it.

All right ladies and gents let’s hear your favorite Ferrari and why it means that to you…

Ferrari F40. First Ferrari I ever got to sit in (2004 US GP at Indy), first Ferrari I got to ride in (2010 track day, yes he gave it the beans), first Ferrari I got to drive (2015 helping a friend at his shop, granted it was 200 yards but driving a Ferrari is driving a Ferrari). Sadly I doubt I’ll ever get to the point of owning one simply due to family obligations and also the whole money thing. Fell in love with it when PGR2 was at its full swing. It’s honestly just a really really expensive factory assembled kit car but its such a riot of a car.

1962 250 GT Berlinetta Luso

For all the praise and admiration the 250 GTO gets (mind you rightfully so), the 250 GT Luso is to me a bit more desirable. I think the design (pininfarina) and drive-train shows that Ferrari were at the top of the heap when it came to Gran Tourers of the era). While the GTO seems a bit more manic in its presence, the Luso is more relaxed in it’s nature. Looking at home crusing at over 100 mph and any major stretch of road Europe has to offer, passenger and appropriate luggage (Italian leather of course) in tow.

My favorite Ferrari in FH4 is the 288GTO, mainly because it is the closest thing Forza has ever had to my actual favorite Ferrari, the 308GTS. As nice as the newer Ferraris are, the 288 has what I consider to be the best design that does a better job of capturing the Ferrari “essence”, at least from my perspective. I generally prefer what i call the “mid age” designs, including the 308/328, 348, Testarossa, and F355…basically anything made after the curvier old-style and the retro new-style that started with the F430. In the game itself, the 288 has a nice blend of speed and decent handling without having to add a huge wing that ruins the looks. It also sounds halfway decent.

I have never had the pleasure of riding in or driving a real Ferrari, although I did get to sit in a 328GTS once. I also got to see a real 288GTO at a car show in Monterey once time.

Alright be honest… its because Magnum P.I. drove one!

Honestly, it’s not. The first two Ferraris I ever saw in person were a 308GTS and a Testarossa (not a 512TR). I fell in love with the 308 design right there. I did watch Magnum on Netflix, and was cool to see the 308 in there, but that’s not the reason why I like them.

I have never been a big fan of Ferraris in general, and nothing in FH4 has changed my mind. I don’t like the looks nor how they handle, for the most part.

That being said, I do enjoy driving the 50s California and Testarossa.

I cannot say which of the Ferarris is the best, but I enjoy driving the 50s California the most.

2003 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale.

I would have agreed with the 288 GTO had it not been for the price tag in game at just over 3 million and the fact that it feels a smidge oversteery when I’ve driven it. For 200K, the value of the 360 speaks for itself. Being a model based off of a race car (the rarely heard about 360 Modena Challenge), the car just feels super planted to any track it’s on and I am quite partial to the stylistic approach and aesthete with the car.

Yeesh. Start by picking a shiny red fewmet from the dungheap. If an old open wheel racer is in FH4, I’d choose that. Second choice would probably be one of the old race cars that look like they belong in Speed Racer. If neither of those are in the game it has to be the long one that looks like a junker from the 80s instead of a typical Ferrari.

599 GTO. I always though it was ugly then I won the car. It handles insanely good for the power in this game even without aero. The look is slowly growing on me too.

No, otherwise you’d have a moustache too! And a love of jazzy shirts!

Oh, and also for me it’s the F430 or the 456 Italia. Both cars are smooth and quick, just what i like!

And a very, very… very hairy chest ;/ That’s one part of that era I don’t miss at all.

As for the topic, for me it’s the Testarossa, for the same reason that annoying bird in the game has… ‘Gogogogo’ (;/)

Guess it’s just a bit of nostalgia to the arcade era, as I’ve got no love for supercars of any kind, in any form of way.
