I love racing in the rain adds a whole new dynamic to the game. For the most part I think it plays and looks great, except for the water splashing from the car tires. To me it looks low res and out of place. Does anyone else feel this way. I hope to see the effects touched up in a patch, but that’s my two cents. Thoughts?
I’m pretty sure it was explained in several of the many interviews leading up to the launch of the game that all the tracks which have rain in them were carefully studied as to how the water collected and pooled on the track, and where. My guess is that it is in fact pretty accurately represented. True, the effects of the cars driving through it may not be modeled very well, but I’m thinking that may have been a bit too much to implement in this game at this time.
I watch a ton of racing in almost every discipline and no, they never stop a race for anything like we see in the game. I’ve seen DTM and Tudor series races in total downpours that continued on. They ran last years Japanese Gran Prix in monsoon conditions, which sadly ended up costing a driver his life.
As a footnote; a great many have complained over the last ten years about having night and weather in the game. We finally have it and NOW we complain that it’s not right. Really? I guess there’s just no satisfying some people.
Personally, I ever cared about either. I have to admit though, night racing at Daytona and Silverstone in the rain have been a blast!! Sebring in a downpour, well, that’s another story…
I love the rain and the slippery conditions, but i hate those puddles. I think they overdid it. But IRL the racetracks are designed in such a way so there won`t form any puddles.
accuracy of where the puddles are isn’t the issue. its how the puddles are implemented and how the spray form other cars look are the issues.
i watch a ton of racing too. the difference is that the race will continue until the conditions are dangerous. that means standing water creating hydroplaning and heavy enough rain to where the drivers simply can’t see anything. many tracks have sufficient drainage to keep the race going, even in a downpour. the key thing is standing water. this will always cause a red flag. if you actually payed attention to the racing you were watching, you’d know this.
why do something if you can’t do it right? people didn’t want a half assed rain and night race.
I think its cool they attempted to simulate hydroplaning in the game; however, IRL, you would never have puddles sitting around on a track before a race. They will most definitely clear it up before the flag goes down.
Also, I’ve noticed how on occasions, the AI cars don’t lose it as much as we do if we happen to go through these puddles around a bend. Does the AI always have TCS enabled by default? They don’t kick up smoke at the start of a dry race like they did in the demo.
It`s a nice attempt, but annoying as hell and a game breaker for me. And they should be removed in my opinion because IRL the race would be stopped like you said.
The standing water is not realistic that’s for sure, but I kind of enjoy the challange. It forces you to take different lines through the corners (and straights) so it adds that bit of variety.
If there were slightly fewer of the puddles, and in turn a slowly developing racing line, that would be perfect.
As for splash itself, well, I saw videos of Driveclub in wet and it’s waaay more realistic, including effect of wet car, which is pretty poor in FM6. Something to improve on for FM7
I quite agree the puddles are fierce but learning a new line gets you round. What disappoints me is in replay the trails where the tyres would have expelled water are missing completely. It makes it look like the cars are really hovercraft.
Yep totally agree , noticed it the other night and thought at first my xbox was playing up… spoils it when u see that coming from the cars in front of you. defo some low rez shizz going on imo
When using a wheel driving through a puddle feels very realistic for a game. I quite like the puddles personally. Adds a new challenge. Night and rain is madness - But fun
I like how they were going on about our fans wanted us to do rain because they knew we’d get it right and 149 surfaces day and night puddles in accurate places blah blah
Nah sunshine. We literally just wanted some rain drops and for it to be a little more slippery. Maybe it would even have changing conditions…ah well in another 10 years maybe
I would agree, but I saw an argument that basically said people using cockpit mode have to deal with it on their windscreen, so it’s only fair 3rd person users would have rain effects too. Perhaps you should be able to turn it off for cockpit view as well.
