Anyone saying the rain/puddles are "unrealistic"

Should check out the practice/qualifying from the F1 race at COTA this weekend.

When I drive through a puddle in reality at 30mph my car that weighs less than 2500 lbs it does not spin wildly out of control 720°.

When I go through a puddle at Spa at 30mph…

Out of curiosity whereabouts at Spa is this happening? As I can’t say I’ve ever had this issue with high powered cars they just tend to get pulled to 1 side instead which is pretty consistent with real life.

And OP yes some massive puddles there - still not Forza sized puddles but enough to mean the drivers had to actually earn their money this time around. Btw what a race today that was!

They earn their money all the time. Forza’s leaderboards serve to highlight the massive difference a driver can make. Granted, the right car and tune can make a big difference, but the skill difference between players is massive. A player can be faster than 99% of players and still be ten seconds slower than the top time. Likewise, the skill of professional drivers also makes a difference. For example, Hamilton and Rosberg are both driving for Mercedes, and their times tend to be close, but Hamilton is still more valuable than Rosberg because he’s still better and consequently brings better results. Similarly, Vettel and Raikkonen both drive for Ferrari, but Vettel is worth more because he gets better results. Teams get paid by constructor championship standings and a handful of extra points can be worth millions in winnings, not to mention more sponsor appeal which could also be valuable, so a better driver can be worth millions.

That’s Nico Rosberg. Last season Hamilton made a joke of him on track most of the time but bad luck for Hamilton at the start of 2014 plus periodically afterwards kept putting Rosberg ahead in the championship, giving Rosberg the false impression that he’s champion material. He’s good, don’t get me wrong, but Hamilton is better most of the time and the rightful championship winner. Rosberg seems to incorrectly feel that he deserves more than he’s got.

If you do it right you don’t spin, let off the gas, straighten out the steering, correct for the slide and carry on.

I have to admit, I was considering correcting myself in another thread, where I said the standing water is not realistic, after watching the qualy this morning. I have also played more tracks since, and I still think it’s a little bit extreme, at least in some places, but probably not a million miles away from the real thing.

No where on that COTA track this weekend was there puddles the size of those massive ones in Forza 6.

Got a link?

No to get off track but this was the very first F1 race I’ve ever watched and holy ****! I’m hooked!! I was rooting for Vettel who came in 3rd but congrats to Hamilton. … Idk who Hamilton’s teammate was but I now have a driver to dislike lol what a sore loser!!

As a long-time F1 fan all I can say is don’t expect it to stay that interesting. Barely payed any attention this season, just been plain dull.

Must’ve missed this before, but did you say you dislike Rosberg 'cos he’s a sore loser, but then you were rooting for Vettel???

If you can find a replay of the final Continental Tire series race at Road Atlanta, watch that as well. Heavy downpour, significant puddling around the track, cars losing grip. The in car views were much like we have in game.

Yep lots of puddles and rivers rolling across the track. Plus I think it rained the entire 10 hour race.

I had one case on Bugatti circuit in game where I was driving a Volvo touring car down a straight. a little puddling in the in the tire tracks, I hit the puddles going straight, not a lot of throttle and not all that fast and the car spun out on contact with the water. It was like something just grabbed hold of the left front wheel and caused the whole car to pivot around it.

I have hit water plenty of times on the road everything from shallow to deep water, slow and fast and never have I had my car spun out IRL, I have had it tug pretty hard at the wheel, I have had it feel like I slammed on the brake or even hit something and I have had it just skate on top of the water where there was no response to steering input but I have never even been pulled out of my lane much less violently spun around by an inch of water on the road like what happened in the race I mentioned above.

Another thing about the puddles that is very unrealistic is that they do not splash, many of those puddles the first car would splash out most or even all of the water and the next car would have much less of a puddle, especially if the second car was pretty close behind, not to mention the car beside would get a good dousing of water from the splash.

Personally I do not like the way the rain is done at all, there is no damp or wet track, no chance of rain, no choose of rain tires, just dry or lake conditions that never change during the race. Would be better if it were not there at all.

I think the puddles were a good idea but a little gimmicky, i think they took the whole hydroplaning thing too far. But it is a game so it is what it is.

When I was young - we were on the highway, it was raining about the same as FM6.

My dad must’ve lost his focus for a second (we were in a hurry, I think we were going 65MPH) … in an Audi 5000, we hydroplaned, did 2 360 spins in the middle of the highway, somehow managed to get the car staight without getting hit…

I was so scared, we were very lucky.

This happened to me once on the highway as well doing 50-60 mph puddle grabbed my left front I over corrected for it and it pitched me towards the divider (didn’t hit) then spinning across three lanes (didn’t get hit somehow) then sliding backwards into roadside trees (didn’t crush the car phew!!!) turned it around and kept on going. Long story short puddles ain’t nothing to $@%^ with so I have no problem the effects of the puddles in-game you’re sorta trying to avoid them as much as possible anyways or maybe pay the price.

Wow. Yeah we all knew we were just going to get nailed by 3-4 cars, but luckily they all avoided us and we corrected fairly nicely. IIRC, no one said anything about it in the car, we all just sat silent the rest of the way to our destination!

But yeah, wet roads and speed can be unpredictable if you lose focus for a sec. In FM6, if you’re neck to neck racing at a high speed turn and you’re on the wrong (wet) side of the turn, you really have to be careful. Hotlapping isn’t really an issue.

COTA was a site to see this weekend. Saturday was a mess! Glad the rain went away yesterday after lunch and we were able to stay dry, can’t say as much about Saturday.

Maybe the puddles in FM6 are a bit exaggerated but it adds a bit more difficulty and forces you to use different lines. Overall I feel the wet tracks feel pretty realistic.
