Hey guys, wondering what the performance is like racing with the new controller, looking to pay the £120 but mainly for Forza, I know the triggers are shorter but you can add on buttons at the back for easy shifting, has anyone had the pleasure of trying this controller yet on Forza?
Triggers are the same size, as for the paddles at the back I did use them on Forza then went back to the normal A Clutch with X/B gears though I can still use paddles if I like which are currently set to the accelerator for throttle.
Personally I had seen a performance different in the latest Community Bounty Hunter event when I found the Elite Controller to be incredibly smooth which in the end meant for no locking of brakes and to be perfectly smooth as well as the accelerator being smooth too.
I’ve had it since before the controllers launch luckily and can say it has been brilliant so far though I use either my wheel or Forza controller more as I don’t want to wear this one out
I love the Elite controller for Forza. I use the two right paddles for upshifting, but still use A+X for downshifting as I couldn’t get used to braking and downshifting with the left paddles. Upshifting with the right paddles is even quicker than using the traditional A+B method, with the additional benefit of easing some of the shifting burden from your right thumb. I can play longer before my hands get sore this way.
I also find that using the longer thumbstick for steering allows for more precision during cornering, especially with sweepers.
I don’t personally lock the brake trigger, but to each their own.
I find the extended stick to be helpful all around. The shorter stick may be slightly better for chicanes, but I still have no problem with these using the extended stick.
I purchased the Elite but returned it three days later and here is why.
The first 24hrs I actually liked this controller but the more I used it the more I realised it wasn’t worth £120. After using the paddles I then removed all of these because it was not faster than using the buttons, they also got in the way as I tend to grip my controller tightly. The trigger stops are useful but then again you could simply insert a screw into the trigger as some of my friends do this.
The positive is the different analog sticks and also how you can change steering from default, smooth, instant, agressive. However in my opinion £120 isn’t worth these bonus features. I did a test and my laptimes were very similiar between the elite controllerr and standard controller.
I just got my Elite controller the other day as a replacement for the one that originally came with the console, and I can say it’s a big improvement for me personally.
As others have mentioned being able to swap out parts of the controller is really useful, the longer sticks allows for smoother steering and the paddles on the back feel much better for shifting, to the point where I’m even starting to use the clutch. I will admit it is a bit of a challenge getting used to the paddles as it means positioning my fingers on the back a bit differently but that will change with more use.
Overall I would recommend it, it may not be to everyone’s taste but I probably won’t be going back to a regular controller anytime soon.
This controller is quite tempting… it’s a pity i already own two xbox one controllers. It costs 150 euros… some sell it for 195 euros, by the way… which is rather insane.
But i think its the same thing with expansive cars… you know they are too expansive, but you also know you want them.
What makes it difficult to decide, however: i prefer using automatic shifting, so the cool paddle idea wont really make a difference for me.
I also tried the elite controller once at gamescom and honestly i didn’t really liked it because the switches at the backside got in my way all the time.
However, i’m still interested in this controller. I think many people prefer it over an actual racing wheel, at least for Forza 6.
Had an Elite from day one and I love the solid feel does make a standard controller feel cheap and plastic gives you the confidence that no matter how hard you use the sticks they aren’t going to give out on you. Faster reaction time as well but the confidence mine has given me means I am now cockpit racing and I have also turned off the ABS next step trying the paddles for gear change racing and wave automatic goodbye. Now most people won’t think that’s a big deal but for me it’s amazing as I have some arthritis in my hands the effects it had on my manual dexterity basically limited what I could do with the standard controller and its effects on my confidence so the Elite has been amazing for me.
Now I understand why some don’t think its worth the high price and yes it is an expensive bit of kit but I have found it is perfect for me and as for everybody else out there it will get less expensive so maybe it’s a waiting game for all you Forza fanatics out there but eventually I recommend you get one me I’m going to invest in anther one so I have one fully charged at all times that’s how much I love it. Just one more thing I got the Xbone day one with the matching controller it now sits on a charging dock unused as within a year the micro switches went and something inside it broke so glad I had bought a second controller.
Now people will ask why I didn’t send it off to be replaced well I had read so many horror stories of people sending off their Day One controller to be repaired\exchanged only to find it had been replaced with an ordinary one, well I didn’t buy Day One so I could have a standard controller with I bought it to have the matching original controller. As for the Elite I can’t say how suitable it will be with other game titles as all I do is race Forza with the odd day on The Crew and that’s all I know, it may be totally useless for RPG and FPS’s but for racing I have found it to be perfect so before you invest check out all the forums you may find it doesn’t appeal for other games but it’s like anything else do your research. Nuff Said.
worth every penny, i set the sticks to smooth and no more tapping the sticks around sweepers, i dont use the paddles for forza as im used to a+b+x for gears…i use the paddles for destiny and starwars etc and they are game changing! also being able to change vibration settings is saving battery times too
I have one! It’s elegant compared to stock. I ditched the triggers because I prefer death gripping the controller. Wish they had a cheaper version without them and I’ll bet that would sell. So is it worth it? Well they have $100 steering wheels and they have leather wrapped $500 wheels. The controls are butter smooth and I do think more accurate.
It worked great for me, especially using the paddles to shift (once I moved both of them to the right side). And then the spring in the left stick broke (about 3 days after warranty expired) and I went back to the standard controller.
It has a much nicer, higher quality feel; but honestly going back to the standard, I don’t notice much of a difference when driving. I don’t think it’s really worth the additional expense (at least for Forza). At some point, I’ll probably break it open to see if I can fix it, but I’ll probably just switch to a wheel.
I’m using an Elite controller since the Porsche expansion came out. It was really expensive, but now i’m really happy to own one. I’m using two paddles at the right back side of the Controller, and shifting is a fun and smooth experience. I never used manual transmission in Forza before, but now i’m loving it. This is what the Controller did to me. It changed the way i’m playing a racing game. Another thing that’s pretty cool: the longer sticks. I think these simply feel better than the regular, shorter sticks. I can’t say if this really improves the accuracy but it’s still something that’s appreciated.
Another great thing about this controller is the added weight. You could think that more weight is a bad thing, but it’s quite the opposite. Picking up a standard Xbox controller or a Dual Shock 4 now feels rather cheap.
