I have been wanting to pick up a G920, but just couldn’t drop the almost $400 for it. I ended up with a $280 Microsoft gift card and am seriously considering using part of it for an Elite controller as sort of a temporary compromise until I get a G920… I am just curious if people like using it for Forza and what setup are you using? Long sticks, medium sticks or some combo, two paddles or all four, specific sensitivity settings etc. For those with an Elite controller, what is your setup for Forza?
Patience is a virtue, Virtue is a patience. If you buy the controller your wheel will only be further away. I highly recommend the wheel for Forza, I have the Thrustmaster TX458 and the pro pedals. The whole experience is so much more enjoyable and you feel more connected to the car with tons of feedback information through your hands, arms and feet. Not just two fingers. I’m not saying you will be quicker with a wheel but you will be smiling alot more.
Got the elite a couple of weeks ago and love it. Never had a wheel, my kids would destroy it in seconds. The elite controller can be hidden.
I use the long left stick, deadzones all 0-100. I messed with the sensitivity curves, especially smooth but went back to the default, didn’t see much difference.
Spent some time trying to get used to the paddles but they just make things harder IMO.
I already have enough to do with my left hand when trail braking. With paddles either up/down or clutch would need to be on left side.
I tried both up and down on right side paddles with clutch left as A - didn’t work either.
I just use the long stick on the left thumb and reg on the right, don’t use the paddles for Forza because I was either gripping it to tight and up/down shifting when I didn’t want to. I also found it hard to pull the left trigger and hit the paddles at the same time. Other than that I have not bothered with any of the settings in the app, but I do use the left trigger lock as a fail safe for never locking the brakes.
But as someone else said if it’s a wheel you want you are only $120 away so you may just want to keep saving.
Oh, one trick that works for some cars is to set the trigger stop on the left trigger. It makes it impossible to lock up the brakes but gives you more or less maximum braking!
The biggest thing for me with the elite controller is the steering. Much smoother.
The Elite is worth every penny. I go through regular controllers every 6 months and finally bought an elite to see if it is better. So far everything about it is better. Smoother controls and heavier in your hands. The left stick is still solid after 50 hours of use and everything still feels new. I use it the way it comes out of the box and of course updated the driver and set the controls in the Elite configuration App.
I like the normal sticks and no paddles just like a regular controller. The paddles did not add to the mix well for me. So far I like how it is working and it seems to be holding up very well. I bought a 2 year replacement program just in case and plan to use it before my 2 years are up with Geek Squad.
I don’t think it’s worth every penny because it currently comes with the paddles which I payed for but don’t use. I do think the should offer a pro version controller without the paddles for maybe $100.
I will agree with your idea of a version without the paddles. I bought the only configuration offered at the time and for me it was worth the money even if I don’t use the paddles or the other sticks. It would be nice if they offered a “Build it Your Way” version.
The Elite is worth every penny. I am a disabled veteran and Xbox player since the original Xbox. My condition recently got worse. My hands do not function like they use to. I use the tall stick on the right side and the short one on the left. I took the lower paddle from the right side and placed it on the upper left side. I use the paddles for shifting. I have to use auto braking because of my hands. I have to use the ring finger on my right hand which makes it hard to use my thumb for buttons. I HIGHLY recommend it because of the many ways it can be configured and adjusted, not to mention the ability to have 2 “profiles” on the controller. I have one for driving and one for shooters. A quick flip of the switch and I am configured for shooters. The ability to adjust the trigger pull helps with the braking in Forza, but it also helps with the shooters as well. less travel for the trigger means quicker shots. I would love a wheel for Forza, I own a Fanatec for the 360, but because of the versatility of the Elite, I can corner ALMOST as smooth as a wheel. It takes some time to make the adjustments, but once you have it “dialed” in, it is AMAZING!!! It will take some time and patience to work it to your liking. If I had it to do over again, I would buy it again. One thing to think about, a wheel can only work for Forza, but the Elite can be used for many games. You can make several profiles and save them. A quick log into the app, save the profile for a particular game and you are ready for action. Hope this helps.
I’ve managed to “master” downshift on both left paddles and upshift on both right paddles, adds to the experience of driving a flappy paddle car, took me a while to get used to it though so i wasn’t slamming the brakes when downshifting. Haven’t tried the longer thumbstick though which everyone seems to do, I’ll have to try it.
Not at the using clutch stage yet… Not that a Ferrari uses manual clutch anyway.
Love my Elite controller! I use the right paddles for shifting (top for up and bottom for down, no clutch yet) and the standard length sticks with Kontrol Freek Vortex thumbsticks. They give a much larger grip area and I feel they allow for more precise steering.
I tried the Speed Freek Apex too, but unfortunately I broke my left thumb years ago so it sits at an odd angle and doesn’t lay straight in the middle of the “U” shape.
From the little that I used it, It does seem like it would help a lot with steering control. Luckily the extenders are a big help too.
