It has to encode the sound on the fly that is why. Maybe a better cable could fix the problem, if you have one laying around just try it out.
Make sure it is 8K60/4K120 capable so it can send 40-48 gbps.

It was an expensive 2.1 cable, same as the /0hz cable used to connect Xbox to TV so I swapped them around to make sure and same result. I’m guessing a faulty Xbox . Worth the ask
Have you looked for the problem online already? Do others have the same issue?
Yeah well then there is nothing you can do it seems. Can you use PCM with that soundbar? If yes just use that and live with it.
I’ve no idea TBH, Would it make a noticeable difference in quality? The soundbar + Tv sound good, just not able experience DA is a bit of shame but it’s no big deal in the scheme of things.
It’s just a soundbar I don’t think it makes much of a difference. Just try it out.
I have the same problem with a Denon X2700H. Still working on it - but I don’t think, it’s the receivers fault. Samsung Q90T, Xbox Series X and said AVR. Spent a lot of money for this sh…, doesn’t work - great.
Xbox connected directly to TV, or through the AVR makes no difference, except losing 120Hz at 4k with the latter (I guess, THAT is the fault of the receiver). Sound over eArc for both.
So your X2700H does have 8K60/4K120 support but not VRR? That is weird. I can play with my PC that is connected to my X1700H and have 2160p 120 HZ with G-Sync and HDR (but not Dolby Vision) and all.
Does the Xbox still have optical output? Maybe try that and play it with DTS instead if that works.
Well I don’t have a Xbox, so I can’t test any of that. But I already tried DA iirc and had an audio delay of like 150-200MS i think. That is also a reason I rather play with PCM, there is no delay there.
The AVR SHOULD support everything, also VRR at 120Hz. I really don’t know and can’t test any further (no other screen supports 4k/120).
Optical out is, unfortunately, not available. That already saved my old setup from audiodelay. I’m waiting for an answer from Denon at this moment. Samsung already said, they don’t know about the problem.
If I were you I would just connect the Xbox to the AVR directly and set it to PCM or DTS or Dolby Digital or whatever. If that is possible. Well or via eARC.
Having audio without delay or very low delay is more imporant than fancy sound.
You could also try to update your X2700H. My X1700H still gets regular updates every once in a while.
I’ve tried every given constellation, the cables are good, everything’s updated. I don’t care about the sound, as long as it is surround.
When the Xbox ist connected to the TV via Receiver, I have audiodelay AND no 120Hz, when it’s connected directly to the TV and sound via eArc, I have 120Hz, but even more delay.
I make just the best threads.
Ppl saying dolby atmos is inferior to anything havent been in a dolby atmos movie theater. Its better then laser imax without a doubt.
That being said i doubt many ppl are going to put 128 channel audio systems in their house.
Yeah well it seems to be awesome for movies and such but not for gaming. I haven’t been in a cinema since 20 years. I don’t like listening to ppl that laugh, chew very loud and talk while a movie. I also like to be able to just press pause and go to the bathroom or the fridge to get a beer or something.
Well if you ever change your mind, i can’t recommend a Dolby theater Enough. Just wait for a movie you’re really excited for and try it. Its crazy good sound and the best picture a projector can produce. Really good contrast, obviously not OLED though.
So I am just going to weigh in on this; everyone’s hearing and preferences are different. There should be no problem with anyone posting up an opinion on “this makes my home system sound better and you should try it too”…but try it and make your own mind up!
Firstly; Is 5.1/7.1 better than Dolby processing…depends entirely on your setup. From an “audiophile” standpoint yes.
I use 5.1 uncompressed as my home system does not have ATMOS capability and I’m definitely more than happy with that! I normally play games using a headset (Steelseries Arctis 9X) but have played a lot recently just using the surround as (typical british response) it’s too hot for a headset and if anything, I’d say it sounds much better. Now that might be due to my setup (Meridian DSP loudspeakers and processors) but it has always sounded better uncompressed. When I have taken my Xbox to use in my work theatre, I change the processing on the Xbox to output ATMOS but that is entirely due to the processors used (Trinnov Altitude 32) being a lot more capable (and expensive) than my Xbox and my system at home.
Saying this, I read this and thought “I wonder if something is busted on the Xbox so I’ll try it”…for me, uncompressed is the way. Doesn’t mean @CRSSQU4R3D is wrong. It means his setup, room furniture and hearing is different to mine. You have to do what’s right for you
I did buy the Dolby App when it was on sale and IMO it sounds better through my headphones than the Windows Spacial option

I personally hate going to the movie theater, because I hate subtitles. They dub kids’ movies to Swedish here, and that’s NOT any better. I’d rather die than watch a dubbed movie if I can understand the original language in the movie.
At home, with streaming video services, I have the option to remove subtitles, which I love! When Netflix first started as a streaming service, it wasn’t possible to remove subtitles, so I had no choice but to watch it in one of the Nordic languages. Luckily, I guess enough people complained, because fairly soon, subtitles could be disabled.
I went to see a movie in France once (while I was backpacking through central Europe), and I had no idea it would be dubbed. Luckily, I knew french, but it ruined the movie experience for me.
I’m not picky when it comes to audio quality, so for movies and sports, I’m fine with the 5.1 Logitech PC speakers. When gaming, I always use my Turtle Beach Stealth 700 headphones.
I tried and researched every possible solution to the problem a couple of years ago. Best I could come up with it was a Samsung -Xbox compat issue. Figured the issue was never going to get fixed and how / where I play i prob wouldn’t experience much of the DA experience playing games anyway, so forgot about , then saw this thread and wondered if any audiophiles had found a workaround.
The solution for now is to connect the Xbox directly to the sound bar first and then have HDMI/eARC running back to your TV.
Or you could try optical/coaxial.
Both your TV and sound bar should have audio delay adjustments. Try fiddling with those.
Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought there’s only one HDMI 2.1 port on XsX
