Y’all need to see why this is. It’s not a game related issue, it’s a console one ( Series X here ). I have my suspicion that it’s caused by the accessibility screen reader, but can’t prove it. There’s always this weird layer where much more sound comes out my center channel than should be and it’s harsh/ugly ( 5.1.4 setup ). I do not currently have passthrough turned on so it’s not my settings or my setup ( this shouldn’t matter, but I’ve turned it off for now since PS5 doesn’t have a similar feature ). This affects every game I’ve played on both consoles. They always sound a lil weird on the series X.
I imagine that whatever is discovered will help FM sound considerably better too. I don’t know where else to put this so @T10ManteoMax put it wherever you see fit. I just happen to be playing FH5 on both consoles and noticed that the PS5 version sounds considerably better.
the compressed audio setting in the ps5’s system settings determines if pcm audio is encoded to Dolby or DTS, in the process of encoding to Dolby from pcm, some of the sound stage is lost leading to misplaced directional audio and there is alteration to the mix that causes louder lows and quieter highs, also in the process of this mixing, peaks are clamped to fit the dynamic range.
In no way, in no reality is the re-encoded audio better than the xbox’s native pcm audio.
Sure. That’s why it has more dynamic range and bass. It just sounds more natural. The Xbox has this weird layer over it that makes it abnormally bright and ugly. Get back to me when you’ve tested both consoles on the same system.
In EVERY way shape and form PS5 dolby atmos sounds better than Xbox in my testing.
Curious about my rig? Anthem MRX 1140 >> 4x Klipsch RP8000F, 4x Klipsch RP500SA, 1x Klipsch RP600C, 1X PSA S1512M ( currently testing out a new subwoofer brand on buddy’s recommendation ).

“More” does not equal better, nor correct.
I’ll take the sound engineer that specified the sound stage over the guy thinking reconverted/upmixed audio is correct.
A THX certified technician can set up a room exactly as specified and there’ll still be someone who doesn’t agree with it.
Well, FH5 and FM on xbox do not sound correct. They both have this center channel loaded weird layer that just should not be there.
