True sounds of Forza 5

To those who have complained about the sounds of Forza 5.

Now, this may be old news to some, but to me it was a big change. I have a wife and two small kids, therefore a lot of my racing is done after hours when they are asleep. Just a lil while back, I picked up the headset adapter so I could hear the game better, without disturbing them. I couldn’t find my good headphones (samsung galaxy s5), so I had my wife pick me up a real cheap pair. They done okay, but nothing more impressive then the TV.

Today I found a brand new pair of good headphones. Don’t bash me, I don’t game online so I don’t own an expensive headset or headphones. I cranked the volume up and went into Forza Vista. Wow! Sounds that I have never heard from this game filled my ears. I then proceeded into test drive, with a fully upgraded TT C7 drag car. I’m a huge GM fan, especially anything with an LS. I always run with race music off, so the only sounds I hear are the car itself.

To start, the idle was just amazing. A low thumping idle just as it should be. Bringing the car up through the RPM range was awesome! The turbos are much more noticable, and it’s so much more crisp. The best part, asides from the idle, was when letting off the fuel. No, not the BOV, but a low subtle backfire or two is to be heard. This has completely changed my view of this game. I could only imagine what it would be like with a high quality set of over the ear headphones. Maybe tonight I can try a few other cars out.

hmmm, mostly I just hear people coughing into their headset, little kids cursing, or someone elses music. out of those, it’s the music that irritates me the most

I honestly don’t know what game some people are playing. My version of FM5 is completely missing the lower frequencies, it’s all mid-range and treble. Your supposed to FEEL and engine, not just hear it. And no it’s not my system, Project Cars sounds amazing.

I clicked your link and watched the video. I work with a guy thats from Ireland and we were B.S. ing about racing, NASCAR drivers vs. road racing drivers and so on and he turned me on to the Isle of Mann races. Big cajones and absolutely bat s**t crazy is the only words I have to describe those guys. Puts the whole racing on 4 wheels thing into perspective for sure.

How are you listening? TV or headset/headphones. Like I said in my post, I played with only the TV as my audio output for a long time, then I switched to a set of headphones. That’s when I noticed the difference. Be sure to turn off the menu music when in Forzavista and the race music off when racing.

I play through a 5.1 surround system. But I might as well unplug the sub-woofer, it never gets activated.
Just played FM4 to compare, much deeper bass and fuller sound. You can’t even hear the cars idle in FM5.

That’s strange. I got my console running through a 2.1 digital stereo system and the idle sounds are clear as daylight. The sub fires off nicely too when some of the muscle cars are idling, or when you’re climbing through the low to medium RPM ranges… particularly when you pass through an overhead bridge… I love the bassy whoosh sound.

You might need to check your audio settings. Are you connected through HDMI or Optical/coaxial?

I too use a home theater but I do get the sub to sound off. I had to do alot of adjusting and when I watch a movie have to readjust but cant beat the surround

Agreed. Project Cars does have better sound effects. However, in Forza I often find myself doing hotlaps and looking for that one fast and clean lap, you know, not dipping a tire out of bounds, etc. In Project Cars, when I bother to boot it up ( and that aint often ) I find myself just hoping to make a lap where I’m not in the fence at least 3 times. And hey, if I only get into the fence twice, I consider that a win in Project Cars. That game had some serious potential but they forgot one thing, not everyone that buys a racing game has the abilities of Richard Petty, A.J. Foyt and Jackie Stewart. To be honest, I’m middle of the pack when it comes to driving abilities in this game. In Project Cars, that equates to what I just said ^^^ up there. My only regret is I was too lazy to go to Game Stop and buy the hard copy and instead d/l’d it where it sits on my HDD taking up space and I’m stuck with it. But like I said, the game has potential, and I have to admit, the career mode is a very cool idea and who dont like free cars and just about every track on earth. Simply put they just made the game too hard for an average player like myself. And, all these people on this game that have been hollering for rain races, remember you asked for it. Careful what you wish for they say…

Forza 5’s sound design is a handful. The thing I LOVE about T10 games is that they make constant and steady improvements in every game in terms of sound, visuals and physics.

FM5 set the bar higher - I can’t get enough of the game and sound is a major factor. I don’t own a very fancy set up myself, though the frequency range is clear and distinct even on a digital 2.1 stereo system. The thing is an 8 speaker set up really helps!

Best way to enjoy any driving game is through speakers - I’d highly recommend that.
