Tired of this forum's toxicity? We can help

Yeah… It annoys me that I seldom have anything good to post on these forums anymore. I still check them once and a while to see if anything is actually done about the abundance of complaints, but like you said, I doubt if PG even acknowledge this forum anymore.

The new community manager can post in r/forza as much as they want, and pretend this place doesn’t exist, but they’re never going to escape the fact that many of the complaints and issues that are non-stop brought up on here are slowly but surly stating to seep their way on to the forza and forzahorizon sub-reddits. Nearly all the big names in content creators are starting to succumb to the tediousness of H5’s playlist too.

I think I speak for everyone on here when I say it pains me to see this forum in the state it is. But to be honest… I don’t feel Any empathy… Because all of this damage was self-inflicted, with the terrible and rushed decisions they keep making with this franchise.

I’m more annoyed by the narrative being presented by a mod in that other thread that anyone complaining, even constructively, is a troll or agitator that should be ignored.

I’m definitely not tired of reading people posts here. Especially when they make actual sense. Actually… I really don’t have any problems with post that doesn’t make sense either. So while I appreciate the advice I will just ignore it. Knowing how most of the OP posts looks like I take this one as a joke too.

Sorry, but had to come back to this…

Take a look at this Thread
https://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst173196_Youtube-Videos.aspx

Your reply:

and

you started the “negative” chain there  why not just skipping/ignoring? maybe someone is interested (dont forget to scroll down there)

btw mod changed my post above but there was nothing wrong with my “blah/nonsense” response (sorry DamMe2006 but interpreting “your not welcome here” into this is “hard” so its blah in my eyes ;))

“Think before you post, if your post doesnt add anything to the conversation, don’t post” looks better on your reply there

Or this Thread
https://forums.forza.net/turn10_postst173242_Gifts-for-new-players--sending-some-good-will.aspx

Your reply:

same behavior  why not skipping? noone forces u to comment

Look at your posts in the Auctionhouse thread…

This one is good

Horizon5 Players are idiots !?

There is a reason why u can sell cars “over the autshow price”. And it has nothing todo with cheaters/hackers/idiots. It allows players to sell cars with unique/unpublished tunes/designs for more money. It’s games job to prevent listings with fully stock cars at higher prices

Feel free to report the bug

It’s bit strange to say

but

you are somewhat part of the “problem”…

Oh and trust me i’m not calling u a “fanboy” (maybe block george :D) for positive feedback even better u get my respect for staying positive between all the “negative”. Fill the forum with posts about your “good experience” i’m sure you are not alone

What’s the matter of this thread? Irony, sarcasm?
Recommending Reddit for less toxicity is pure comedy gold.

I know I’ve basically abandoned ship on this place after jumping in to find a place to talk Forza. The toxicity and arrogance I’ve seen here from a small group that have a free run of the place is next level. Given what I’ve seen over the past few weeks of being here, all I can say is good luck attracting new people in future. Allowing newbies to get belittled and insulted by people that have put 400 hours into a game they clearly hate isn’t really conducive to a healthy environment.

The only thing I’m tired of is waiting for the company to start patching this game and fixing all these buggy accolades that can’t be completed.

My issue with the forums are the same people over and over again, hijacking your post. Trying to belittle you and making you feel as though your comment was wrong, or shouldn’t have been posted.

Then they’re are those who get things completely wrong and instead of doing the decent thing and apologise, they try turning it on you. It’s your fault not mine. How hard is it to say “sorry” admit you were wrong and move on? Instead you’d rather continuously reply until the other person gives up or ignores you. It doesn’t mean you are right, it means your being a troll.

Guaranteed this will be quoted, and guaranteed it will be the same person that does it, why? Because they have nothing better to do? Or maybe they believe they are gods gift to all things, either way it’s on the brink of online harassment, and some posts and replies could even dice with breaching the commutations act here in the UK. I’d rather try helping when possible but do feel myself typing things, just to then press cancel, because I know if you give these people even a millimetre of ammo they turn it towards you.

Blocking does nothing, all that person needs to do is click on your name and they can see everything you type, if anything that needs fixed foremost on the forums. Block should mean block.

All this aside I do think the vast majority of people within the forums are focused on helping, or attempting to make a community with a community, there are some outside fun activities setup by others which are enjoyable and well thought out, where others come together to help others become better drivers, tuners and painters. But then there are less than a handful of others who try to disrupt this by trash talking others down.

One thing more than anything else, not one of us know how the game is coded and what cross connections exist. We don’t know if fixing this, might break that, or if it is indeed coded to actually work that way. Unless you have access to the source code and engine itself, and are part of the development team, everything you “speculate” is not “fact”, so trying to make yourself look like “Mr Knows It All” or “Mr Perfect” is in my opinion pointless and pathetic.

I was a programmer yes, I’ve developed firmware and software, yes. Can I make a “best judgment” based on previous experience? Yes… but would I 100% say I know what’s fully wrong and how to fix it “No” and would I shutdown anyone else’s input? “No”… Why? because I don’t know the source code or how it’s programmed. Just because you’ve worked on other projects/games within different companies, doesn’t give you overall authority to class others as wrong or stupid.

At the end of the day, the facts we do know:

  1. There are bugs in the game.

  2. There are cheaters and exploiters taking over the game.

  3. The AI are wonky to a point it’s funny/frustrating at times.

  4. There is a list a mile long to sort.

  5. Something broken for someone else might be more important to them than someone else’s issue, but it doesn’t mean that other persons issue is less important.

Is the game playable? Yes for a vast array of players. Is the game broken? Yes again, and again for a vast array of players. Are players frustrated? Yes, but is it right to take that frustration out on other players? No

This is supposed to be an open forum, for anyone to openly post within, if someone posts something that you don’t personally agree on, then there are a thousand different ways to put your point across politely, instead of “your talking crap” or “shut up”.

I genuinely feel it for those who believe they’ve been ripped off, and I do find that if a product is not fit for purpose then that person should be refunded. But also these people have to understand that for others the game is perfect. Neither side is wrong, it’s what makes us human, the ability to decide what is right for us, not others. At the beginning I was in the refund camp, but I’ve slowly moved across to the “I get enjoyment” camp, and if I get even a few hours of enjoyment, then to me that is money well spent. Although I don’t disagree, there is a lot of issues within the game needing fixed/resolved, especially the cheats infecting every leaderboard.

Damn whatever happened to “if you’ve nothing nice to say, then don’t say it?” According to stats we should all be old enough to remember this. Maybe we should all start acting our ages, instead of the spoilt kid from days gone by? No one is perfect, not even those who believe their perfect, that itself is dangerous.

It costs nothing to be nice! That’s what I say to my kids everyday, and I’m shocked I need to state this on a forum full of grownups!

Of course I disagree. there are only so many way to make a game, if changing something breaks something else it isn’t coded properly. Subroutines stop you from breaking something else when you change it. Only beginner programmers break something when fixing something else. If you want to say that Forza was written by beginner programmers then they need to read the helpful posts.

Its not just about breaking something else in a programming sense.

Its about wider impacts of making changes.

Fixing PI issues for example wont break the game moving forwards.

But what do you do with old times on the leaderboards in cars affected by the PI issues?

Exactly:

As in we are currently waiting for drift zone leaderboard scores to be wiped because someone reprogrammed the score mechanisms, (maybe unintentionally?) but in doing so it’s has now caused follow on issues.

Or how previously we lost all our skill points in FH4 and needed refunded (fair play we got reimbursed), but how did one thing, cause issues again somewhere else?

The difficulty for the devs is making sure that in fixing one thing, it doesn’t cause additional issues somewhere else afterwards. Even if it was unintentional. As I said, unfortunately we don’t know how it’s all tied together, we can only speculate.

If you ask any decent programmer they will tell you that it is usually impossible to break the skills, but it happened anyway. If you only write apps then you probably don’t know but subroutines create walls, and it’s not possible to break the skills in a program written properly.

You have to pass information along a chain… a = 1, later if you accidentally use ‘a = 1’ again by mistake it will change two parts of the program, but not if you use functions that are closed. Beginner programmers don’t separate everything into individual routines. You may think that it takes a couple of years to get good enough to lock all the parts of your programs into individual parts, but no, actually most people learn this in their first week of programming.

You are basically saying that I can’t comment on something that should only happen in someone’s first week of programming.

Who said I only wrote apps? I know I certainly haven’t.!

Was I talking to you or about you?

————

I really wish you’d stop quoting me on things that aren’t even in reply to you or concerning you.

well you wrote this…

I think I’m the only person that has mentioned that he worked on computer games. So I figured you must be talking about me.

Well you should know that altering one part of a program can’t alter another part of a program then. You have to write it completely wrong for that to happen.

You wipe the times… do you think that people care if their time is wiped? They get to do it again, which is fun.

Well said,

I would also say continue to use the report button and follow it up with a PM to me or one of the other moderators with details (as the report button isnt great) if you are experiencing issues with another forum member or are having a particular issue we can possibly help with and if anyone has a problem or feedback with the way the forums are moderated they can use the support button to submit a report or PM Max.

Moderation, bans and enforcement are not open to discussion on the forums.

The forums are here to be enjoyed and used by everyone and we want it to be a safe and enjoyable environment for all, where everyone can express themselves and their opinions, bullying and harassment in any form wont be tolerated.

Thanks, someone had to say it, I don’t mind taking the barrage of insults if it’s what’s needed. Some people find it all too easy to sit behind a screen and forget that there are actual real people on the other end.

Wanna fix the “toxicity”, fix the game.

No one is asking for anything other than a finished product to be delivered when money exchanges hands. That isn’t unreasonable or toxic.
