I posted a few weeks ago on the forums about force feedback in the demo. I’ve gotten the full game now and the force feedback is… well, unfortunately the same. I feel like it is way too stiff on centre and the resistance reaches 100% even after barely turning the wheel at 60mph (900 degrees of rotation). Turning the wheel while cruising around is the same as driving on the limit, in other words.
I want to enjoy this game. I really do. It looks visually fantastic, and i love everything about it, including the physics. But the FFB kills it for me. I don’t know if it’s my settings, it very well might be. Any TX users out there, I would appreciate if you could relay your experiences with this and the settings you use.
My settings:
900 DOR
70 FFB
70 vibration
No dead zones
No assists
Sim steering
After getting used to FM5, I, probably like most TX owners, was surprised by how different FH2 feels.
My settings (pretty mild FFB, but it works for me):
360 DOR
2 Sensitivity*
45 FFB
50 Vibration
No dead zones
No assists (unless it’s raining and I’m in some crazy track car - then I’ll turn on TCS)
Normal steering
*Notes on sensitivity if you haven’t used it yet:
If you don’t have the sensitivity feature, then you need to upgrade to the latest firmware. An easy way to tell if you have the latest or not is to press Mode and A at the same time (that puts it into autoclutch). If your red Mode light begins flashing, then you have the latest firmware. If it isn’t flashing and nothing happened, then go download the new stuff.
But, if the Mode light is flashing, meaning you have the latest firmware, you can adjust steering sensitivity by holding down Mode and the Left/Right Paddles (left to decrease the level; right to increase). There are four levels of sensitivity. You’ll know what sensitivity setting you’re at because, when switching, the Mode light will flash in green to let you know (one flash means level one, which is default; two flashes means level two, etc.).
I don’t know what sensitivity means exactly, but higher levels seem to make the steering more linear. In FM5 I always leave the sensitivy at one, but I’ve found increasing it to level two makes FH2 a better TX experience.
I have tweaked my wheel settings & I’m happy with this.
360 DOR
Wheel Sensitivity 2
Vibration 100
FFB 85
No dead zones
No assists (TCS on very high HP vehicles)
Sim steering
I just totally love how the vibration doesn’t cut out for me at all on FH2, unlike FM5! Even after 4 straight hrs (which is as long as I can play before wanting to do something else).
The vibration does cut out here too. But not as often as it happens in FM5. Yesterday in a 4 hours gaming session in FH2 the vibration did cut out twice for me. It´s the same feel as in FM5 when the vibration cuts out. It´s absolutly innacceptable that they bring exactly the same Bug over to FH2. I mean come on, this problem is known for Months now in FM5 and now the same thing happen in FH2. Do you guys over at Turn10 even listen to us???
I think around the 45-50 FF mark feels the most realistic. I never get why people like 100 force feedback. A real car isn’t that heavy, unless power steering is not working. But to each their own.
Btw, I think this game feels better than forza 5 by a mile.
Bingo!
This is exactly what settings I use. I think I am at 47 ffb as well. I don’t like using anything less than 900 DOR, kinda defeats the purpose of having a wheel a little. Even though it works well and animates properly.
Yeah man… :). That setting feels pretty natural to me. Check out the little youtube I posted further up on this thread. I adjusted setting to 870 DOR, 46 ffb. Running a P1 competitively on sim steering, no assists, pro ai is unheard of in F5 (at least for me). FH2 feels visceral with these settings… On the ragged edge, but controllable. 870 has just a tad more turn in than I’d like… So I’ll probably go back in between 900 and 870 depending on the car. I wish there was an option to have it at 880-890. Seriously, just that little bit of deg makes a difference. Then again I’m an insane stickler for detail. lol.
Yesterday the first time it cuts out i was playing for about half an hour. Then I restarted the Console and then after 4-5 Hours of playing the vibration cut out the second time. I didn´t stop the exact play time till the vibration cut out. Maybe you are not playing long enough. I´m sure sometime the vibration will cout out for you too. The problem occurs much less frequently in FH2, as in FM5.
This happens to me too in F5, but hasn’t happened yet in FH2. I believe this is because of the wheel and is a defense mechanism to prevent premature wear and tear over long extended use, plus I suspect most F5 users use 100 % FFB which aggrevates th situation . It may happen less frequently FH2 due to the exact opposite, that is FFB is run at or less than 75% - less wear and tear on the components.
The game/software only sends signals down to the wheel and is not a bug when you lose FFB and/or vibration - it’s the wheel! I’m certain of this.
Mad Catz wheel is trying to alleviate this issue by producing LESS FFB feel on their product.
I just adjusted my settings a little, and I think I found the sweet spot.
Getting familiar with the McLaren P1, No assists. Sim steering. Pro A.I. Avatar difficulty. Sim is challenging, but so rewarding. I would not have been able to have this level of control in Forza 5. I know FH2 is supposed to be a Sim/arcade hybrid… But it feels so much better to me than Forza 5 that it’s almost comical.
And why does it sometimes happen in FM5 after 5 minutes of racing? The Wheelbase can´t get that hot after 5 Minutes. Other people from a German Forum put a stronger fan in the Base and getting the Vibration Loss also. Another Point is that the Vibration Loss came after a certain FM5 Patch! Also I don´t have these Problems on PC. In FM5 i run 75% FFB and in FH2 60%. Also 1 time i can play 4 hours Horizon 2 without a problem and another day the vibration cuts out after 1 or 2 hours. That makes no sense. If it was a security mechanism from the Wheelbase itself, than there were not such a difference in play time. I don´t think it´s a defense mechanism to prevent overheating. Another point why it can´t be a overheat protection, is that there is a Wokraround for this Bug. Whe you hold down the Xbox Button until the Screen comes up where you can shut down the Xbox and then hit B to go back to the Game everything works as it should It´s definitly a problem with Turn10 Games!
Edit: A friend has just reported to me that he has played for 3 hours without interruption Project Cars on the PC with FFB so strong that his arms now hurt. If it was a security measure from the steering wheel from overheating, then the problem would indeed be on PC too…
Quick question for you guys: does anyone elses wheel rock back and forth really fast if you slightly turn the wheel in either direction? Its really weird, if I start driving in a straight line, even at 20mph, and I just slightly tap my wheel in either direction, it’ll start spinning on its own back and forth very rapidly (not a full rotation, maybe 45 degrees each way). I didn’t realize a new firmware was out, so I’m going to download that tonight to see if it makes a difference. Never had this happen in FM5 though.
